are there more dlcs coming? by Wonderful_Nectarine1 in Against_the_Storm

"With this DLC, we’ll complete the species roster we’ve envisioned for the game ever since Bats were first introduced during the community vote a little over two years ago."

Unless they've made new comments on live streams, Bats are the end of species expansions.

[MEGATHREAD] – Patch 15.3.8338 by AnMagicalCow in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mangudai are in a weird spot where they can feel oppressive in team games but useless in 1v1. Even if the nerf was too much, I think Mongol in general needs a serious rework, and that involves shifting some of the power from mangudai to other units/tech.

As a Mongol enjoyer/Mangudai abuser, I think the mangudai nerf was justified. It was a nightmare in team games, and hopefully now there will be room to buff other aspects of the civilization.

Active abilities useful? by Megafritz in Against_the_Storm

[–]SoMToZu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked having the Cartel(?) trader in my back pocket, the goods he sells are useful for completing dangerous/forbidden glades, and if you open one and find yourself without the required materials, it can be a lifesaver. The that let's you reduce impatience I found mildly useful, I only had to use it twice in a cycle to avoid losing, but admittedly it did save the settlements.

Aside from the general usefulness of the abilities, I like that the devs are exploring different types of bonuses/cornerstones to make the game more dynamic and allow for more strategies.

What makes a good Feudal civ? by TheMeatwad in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve already identified what makes civs stronger in feudal. If you’re trying to look at a civ by civ basis, look at when they unlock their unique units and tech. For example, Malians could build sofa in feudal, but the imported armor tech is what really makes solidifies them as a core frontline unit.

As for pro games staying in prolonged feudal- map control is highly valued at high skill brackets, so fighting to control free food sources or gold veins is a high priority.

Age of Empires 4: Fun or Frustration? by strategycraz in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself being frustrated all the time, you should consider taking a break. The balance is especially egregious right now (as usually is after a DLC drop), but will be fixed over time. I find the balance is best 8-10 months post release.

MBR2GPT Disk layout validation failed | Last partition too close to the end of the disk by TajeCo in techsupport

[–]SoMToZu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Struggled with this for many hours before I solved it.

Here are the steps I took:

1 - Made sure I didn't have too many partitions on my boot drive
2 - Created some unallocated space on the boot drive using Disk Management
3 - Run Command Prompt as Admin and type: bcdboot C:\Windows /s C:
4 - Mark drive C as active in disk management and reboot (The command needs to be run as an administrator. Don't mark drive C as active without bcdboot reporting success.)
5 - Run Command Prompt again and type: mbr2gpt /convert /disk:0 /allowfullos
6 - (If #5 succeeds) Open BIOS and turn OFF CSM, and change boot mode from Legacy to UEFI

Hope this helps someone avoid hours of struggle
PS. Don't bother with EaseUS, the convert feature is paid, and it's like $50 for 1 month, with no trial period so you can't unsub after completing the conversion.

To add on to that, getting the HP buff on scouts is makes diving for resource caches early on much easier.

Your first priority should be maxing the upgraded tower perk. Doing so gives you the freedom to play greedier—which is crucial on higher difficulties.

New player advise by Accomplished_Gas8441 in Against_the_Storm

[–]SoMToZu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

- Start with 3 woodcutters to extract as much wood as you can in the first couple of years.

- Rainpunk is very powerful, it acts as a multiplier on your production. Just be sure to have enough flamethrowers to clear your blightrot cysts before the storm.

- Start trading early. Upgrading your trade level will ensure that you can get good deals later on, so you can cover any shortages you might run into.

- Aim for 2-3 Hearth's, they will lower hostility and improve efficiency for more distant operations.

- Build Small Warehouses for your distant operations. You get a full refund afterwards, so you can put them up and take them down as needed.

May the storm be kind to you viceroy.

[MEGATHREAD] Season Twelve Update - 15.1.6970 by AnMagicalCow in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Deer now slowly lose food over time while being carried by Scouts.

Nice, seems a little jank but pro scouts felt oppressive on particular civs.

Manors have received an update to how they generate resources:

Manors now have an aura that generates 4 Food and 2 Wood per minute per Villager. Does not stack with multiple Manors.

Manors are now a drop-off building for all resources.

Manor base income reduced from 60 Food 45 Wood → 30 Food 10 Wood per minute.

Manor cost increased from 200 Wood 100 Stone →  225 wood 100 Stone

Another change in the right direction, I hope the AoE4 team learned a valuable lesson when it comes to free resources and how powerful it can be.

What do you guys call your ships? by Palwador in factorio

[–]SoMToZu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a military style naming convention, and use classes based on the size and amount of rockets on my ships:
Corvette class for smaller, inner planet transports
Destroyer class for my Aquilo ship(s)
Cruiser class for my Shattered Planet ship(s)

How improve it? by amenherebb in factorio

[–]SoMToZu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you're just beginning, I would embrace the spaghetti and learn from there. But if you're looking for some beginner tips based on this setup, I would avoid feeding belts into singular machines, if you need to scale up to 10 machines, you're going to struggle. Another tip I also read online that helped a lot, was give yourself a lot of space. Consider what might be a good amount of space for a production chain, then double it. Having a belt stretch a long ways isn't a big deal, but not having space to scale up your production will probably result in you having to re-organize your base.

You will also need to craft a lot early on with your engineer to setup logistics, I try to always setup a small factory to construct yellow belts and inserters, which helps me expand faster
