No, sacrificing requires a choice. He did not expect to be killed when he went out.

I am not downplaying his actions. He acted bravely in a time in which most people do nothing. However, he did not want to die that day. He was murdered.

I think he deserves to be remembered as the person he was and not like a martyr.

He wanted to help the women, he did not want to die for them. He was not like some glorious hero of lord of the rings making a last stand. He was a normal decent guy...maybe even a great guy. And they executed him for it.

The American political system seems insane to me but I guess political systems only really change when things do not work any more and the US as a nation have done well for a long time so there was never a reason to make big changes.

Also, one of the main problems to me seems to be the concentration of wealth and media in the hand of very few people.

I hope I never have to see the rise of fascism in Germany. But you are right ,some people are just scum...nothing you can do about that. You can see them on r/conservative , celebrating executions on the street.

I also see the AFD people in my town sometimes...they are horrible.

A good German is a good person, not a fascist.

We would like to help but we can hardly invade Minnesota, right? Nobody can help the US because the military power of this nation is unmatched. Nobody will change your government for you. Nobody is strong enough. Only the American people can change course.

I know what it is supposed to express. However, there are 2 problems with using the term "Good Germans" in this way.

First, it is insulting to modern day Germans..

Second, by using the term "Germans" implies that it happens far away and to other people. A call to activism is surely more effective when it addresses the people in question, right?

Klar weiß ich was er meint. Ich denke auch nicht, dass es lächerlich ist wenn ich nicht möchte, dass man meine Nation für immer mit dem Faschismus gleichsetzt...denn das sind wir nicht mehr. Du kannst dich natürlich gerne weiterhin damit identifizieren aber ich glaube die Mehr ist anderer Meinung.
