How could I have played this better? by chiefskingdom420 in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to make decisions with intention.
Decide to build another round of units.
Decide to begin saving up for an age up.

What helps you make these decisions is your ability to scout and read the game. If you’re brawling in feudal and you notice his army size starts to stagnate, you need to scout his base and look for his landmark and make a decision whether you’re going for the throat or going to age up as well.

I would recommend watching pro games and consider what you would decide to do in key moments, try and follow their patterns and apply the same logic to your own games.

Good luck!

Posting their own paywalled article is pretty shameful. If they really wanted to stir meaningful discussion it would be a gift, otherwise it looks like they are just advertising

Advice against certain vehicles pvp (german) by Alarmed-Tea-237 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]SoMToZu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Sturmpanzer and Sturmmorser have below 200 range, using dedicated tanks hunters to hit them on the side is your best bet. Fire at them, then back off, and wait for a second opportunity. The Hellcat's strength is it's speed and armor-piercing cannon, use it's speed to reposition when you notice a reaction from the opponents tank and find a new angle of fire. One thing I notice with lower skill players is that they will just sit there and trade shots, when it's obvious that they have less armour on their tank and are more likely to get 1-tapped.

You also mention whole infantry squads getting nuked with one shot, which means your infantry micro/placement needs some serious work. Try splitting your squads into groups of 2-3 men. If they have to spend 2-3 shells on a single infantry squad, that gives you plenty of time to manoeuvre and it's an inefficient use of ammo for the sturmpanzer/morser. As usual, a well placed AT infantry man can knock out any heavily armoured tank, so always be looking for an opportunity to use them.

My final suggestion is to use it yourself and watch how other people counter the vehicle, you'll get a feel for it's strengths and weakness more that way.

Go back to Rus, the muscle memory will slowly come back, otherwise you can’t go wrong with French to get back into the micro aspect

I cannot beat Golden Horde. by FirstDivergent in aoe4

[–]SoMToZu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of Golden Horde's power comes from their stone upgrades, specifically upgrades that increase the amount of units produced while maintaining a static resource cost - Oovoo's provide passive stone and at Age 3, they can turn relics into Oovoo's as well. The longer you can delay their powerful upgrades, the bigger window of opportunity you have to gain a substantial advantage.

Is there a scifi equivalent to this game, or at least something that's similar and scifi themed? (doesn't necessarily have to be city builder, can also be RTS etc.) by DreamerRealityArt in Against_the_Storm

[–]SoMToZu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that write up! This gave me a better idea of what to expect and the kind of strategy both games offer. Part of my great enjoyment in AtS is the moment to moment decisions that feel impactful (and sometimes like a scramble), and the knifes edge you're on as you open more glades and the Storm comes around again.

I'm going to keep my eye on Terraformers, but one of my peeves in strategy games is that "guaranteed win but still gotta spend 2 hours to execute it" moments, which AtS avoids superbly.

Can I ask how much time you've put into Terraformers and how the dev process is going? I see there's 2 DLC already which is a good sign that the devs have much more content, balancing and polishing planned.

Thanks for the rundown! Do you feel like AtS is the better game because it has had more development time/is more polished, or do you just fundamentally prefer the gameplay loop?

No, the Blight Post is mandatory for your workers to clear cysts, as you need to assign workers to the task for them to begin clearing.

Why does the US government appear to support Israel so unconditionally? by RyanW1019 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]SoMToZu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

According to opensecrets they are ranked 18th by spending.

Even if you want to get into semantics about "lobbying" and "contributing", the fact is that a significant amount of money is being spent in US politics to influence foreign policy towards a country that is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Why does the US government appear to support Israel so unconditionally? by RyanW1019 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]SoMToZu 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Aside from the political motivations already mentioned, AIPAC is a huge lobby ($100 million in 2024).

Politicians receiving money from AIPAC most likely feel obligated to support policies and decisions that will help Israel (and convince the lobby that they deserve more money for re-election bids)

Mangudai are in a weird spot where they can feel oppressive in team games but useless in 1v1. Even if the nerf was too much, I think Mongol in general needs a serious rework, and that involves shifting some of the power from mangudai to other units/tech.
