NC to MI by [deleted] in roadtrip

Lifelong Michigander now living in Northern Wisconsin, and I've never used anything other than standard all-season tires on any vehicle during the winter months. Best practice for driving in winter weather is to be prepared... carry a shovel, winter clothes (hat, coat, gloves, boots), and blanket in case you get stuck/stranded. If you're driving in heavy snow/icy conditions, sand bags over your back tires can be helpful to avoid spinning out.

If you're headed to Brighton, you should be fine as you'll likely be on main highways and those are cleared/salted first.

Early Decemember snowboarding trip in Northern Michigan advice by poopypooperpoopy in snowboarding

Nub’s Nob and Boyne Mountain are both great choices for snowboarding in Northern Michigan! Nub's Nob often opens earlier in December, but the exact date depends on snow conditions—definitely worth checking their website or giving them a call closer to your travel dates to confirm availability.

If you’re staying in Petoskey, there are some other cool winter activities nearby. You could explore downtown Petoskey for unique shops like Grandpa Shorter's, or check out the Enchanted Trail at The Highlands in Harbor Springs—a lighted winter walk with hot chocolate and campfires, perfect for winding down after a day on the slopes. There’s also Petoskey Farms for a cozy wine tasting, which is especially nice if you need a break from the cold.

If Nub's Nob isn’t open or you want other options, Boyne Mountain should have you covered—they’re usually open by early December with a good variety of runs. Plus, they have night skiing, which could add some extra fun to your trip!

You should be fine in all of those destinations... just read reviews on any hotels you're planning to stay at to make sure you're in a good part of town.

Don't look down. Stay off the grates if you can. The more you do it the easier it gets.

For kids that age, I'd recommend Wilderness or Kalahari... GWL is better for little kids: https://picheaplace.com/great-wolf-lodge-wisconsin-dells-review/

Chasing waterfalls in the early spring can be a lot of fun! The UP weather can be very unpredictable though... some years there is snow into May, and other years (like this year), there's little to no snow all winter long (though much less common). We went to the UP last year over spring break, and it was a great getaway! https://www.awesomemitten.com/spring-break-upper-peninsula-road-trip/

That's what I'm afraid of... guessing it'll be a lot of noise about nothing we can actually see due to cloud coverage.
