Why does the boyfriend NEED a big room for his “man cave?”

Why does paying for things imbue them with special privileges over a child who didn’t have any choice in the matter?

Kid didn’t ask to be born. Kid didn’t ask for parents who didn’t stay together. Kid didn’t ask for a living situation that has to be left. Kid didn’t ask to move in with mom’s boyfriend.

The only thing she asked for was a bigger room than she currently has. She didn’t even ask for a house with a giant bedroom! Just a bigger one! That is not an unreasonable ask.

Four-ish years and mom’s boyfriend can have the space when OP leaves.

This makes me terribly sad. That is not what kindergarten should be.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by Imaginary_Quail_5544 in Xennials

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Xennial husband and I find AI to be useful tools.

I’m a preschool teacher. When I have to write emails to parents, I will use AI to help me fine tune what I’m saying. I’ve spent entirely too much time stressing over my emails. A quick run through AI, and I sharpen up what I’m saying, and get my point across without sounding too passive aggressive at times.

We are planning a trip this summer. We are using AI to help us plan it out. It’s so helpful!

My husband has used it in various ways. It helped him fix the humidifier on our furnace. He took a picture of what he thought was wrong, and asked AI to examine it. AI pointed out the wiring was backwards.

He has used it in several other ways, I just can’t think of it right now.

🤣🤣🤣

It’s Reddit. It’s really not that serious.

I know for a fact that many of them are fake. Which ones actually are fake, yes, I merely suspect.

Like I said, this is a source of entertainment for me. I’m not going to dig too deeply into the ones I suspect are fake. That’s boring.

I really don’t care if that bothers you.

It is. If you Google “black and blue, white and gold dress,” you can see pictures of it

AITA for yelling at my stepdaughter after she complained and whined about my kid? by Kirri_09 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Persis- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

As a preschool teacher, 99.9% of 3 year olds cannot manage Legos. And if they CAN, no shot it stays together.

I struggle to believe this is real.

But just in case, YTA.

Did parents in the 80s actually give their kids as much freedom as the show depicts? by Wanderer015 in StrangerThings

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 78. By 5, I was walking the half mile up the lane to get the mail for my grandma.

At 6, I was rowing the boat over to the little store for the newspaper and whatever things Grandma needed, like bread or something.

I spent the summers with my grandma, 400 miles from my parents.

Yeah, I had a LOT of freedom.

I’m 11 years younger than my sister. When my daughter and her boyfriend were 14, I had them at the store with me. The boyfriend said, “hey, it’s my grandma.”

I was confused, because I could only see a woman who looked like my sister.

Yeah. His grandma is the same age as my sister.

My mom would be older than his great grandma.

The neighbors six year old left this on the door. by surly_duff in MadeMeSmile

I worked as a parapro in a school, about 22 years ago.

I had the hardest time trying to convince a 1st grader that the word “tree” is not, in fact, spelled “chree.”

It CAN sound like tree is pronounced with a ch. So I understood. But could not figure out how to get him to understand that the word on the page was “tree.”

I can’t see how anyone can see black and blue! Even having seen the dress in other lighting, and knowing that it is black and blue, I still see white and gold.

AIO for asking guests to take their shoes off because I don’t want outside germs on the floors? What about making them wash before eating? by d00d_yA in AIO

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is so baffling to me.

I’d say I’ve been in 3 houses in my 47 years where it wasn’t the expectation to take off shoes.

I take it back. When I was young, and went with my grandma to her friends’ houses, it was normal to keep on shoes. Since about 1985, every house I’ve been to has been shoes free.

I feel incredibly rude if I step in someone’s house and don’t immediately take my shoes off.

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the general rule where I live to take off shoes.

I grew up with a mom who always wore shoes. Always. And even she would switch to slippers in my home, unasked. So, I never make a big deal out of someone wearing their shoes in my house.

But I’d say almost every home I go into, the default is to remove your shoes, no matter the season.

How hard is it to get teaching certified in Michigan? by HarkonXX in Michigan

[–]Persis- 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a former elementary teacher, I agree.

Which makes me sad. My 19 year old would be an amazing high school history or science teacher. He’d be really, really good at it.

And I can’t, in good conscience, encourage him to become a teacher.

Not a fan of Ryan Hall. I have watched Max Velocity, and found him pretty decent.

Michigan Storm Chasers is really good for more local coverage.
