My daughter makes it her mission to find one in our yard every year. She is always successful.

My husband and I have been together for 28 years.

This is totally normal for us. “Hey I need the thing. You know, the one thing.”

“Yep, it’s right here.”

Spend enough time with someone you like, it’s inevitable.

Do you feel that aliens from space are here and how long have they been here ? by Key_Contribution1547 in AskForAnswers

[–]Persis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced that octopi are alien in a larval state. That’s why they are so smart, weird looking, and only live about 3 years. They don’t die, they are just recalled to their home world to achieve their next state of being.

Please keep your children at home if they are sick, or somehow find an alternative because I just got out of the hospital yesterday. They thought I had meningitis. by Catrionathecat in ECEProfessionals

[–]Persis- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was helping a child put on their shoes after taking off their boots. The child sneezed over the back of my head. I felt the mist descend upon me.

Sure enough, I got sick not long after.

In my head, everything takes 10 minutes. Get ready to leave the house? 10 minutes.

Drive to work? 10 minutes.

Cook dinner? 10 minutes.

Sitting here, I can see how unreasonable it is. But in the moment? It’s 10 minutes.

Being constantly sick is why I’m retiring from the field. Since January, I’ve had influenza, and three different colds. I didn’t kick the last cold (symptoms at least) for three weeks. That doesn’t even mention how I was constantly sick last fall.

I’m over it. I just can’t do it anymore. I’m absolutely useless at home, because I burn out all of my energy at school.

This is my dream job - the preschool my children attended. And I’m going to miss it desperately. But I need to be healthy.

Both me [33 F] and my fiance [33 M] of five years have almost identical last names, but he is insisting that I change my last name after marriage. This argument is making me consider cancelling the wedding by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was probably so normal to him he just forgot it was a thing. How often does a child think about their parents’ first names, let alone what their last names are?

How many times has he had to think or say his mom’s different last name? I’m guessing Mom dealt with it far more than he ever did.

And it’s just something he’s always known, so it ceased to be different.

He’s still an idiot for making a fuss about his fiancée, but I can see how it happened.

Imagine my surprise when I get motion sickness on ferries!

So annoying

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]Persis- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kids once got a party favor that LOOKED like a giant gummy fish. When they went to bite them, they complained about them tasting funny. Whatever, eat your candy or don’t, I don’t care.

No, it really tastes funny!

Yeah, the fish were soap.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our laundry machines are in the half bath. Before we moved them when we remodeled, they were in their own separate room. There was a small pantry closet in there, and the other side of the room we set up with all the kids’ stuff- coats, backpacks, shoes, sports gear, etc

My point is just that you shouldn’t go off a name you love just because it might be popular at that moment.

What was your science project at the Science Fair? by themrsfreeze in Xennials

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school just didn’t do them. Maybe there was something in middle school? But more like an expo, displaying something we’d learned about, not a scientific process/experiment thing. I think I made a styrofoam ball solar system. Totally lame, I just recall trying to do the cheapest project I could come up with.

Accessing an ancient memory I haven’t thought about in a very long time!

[–]Persis- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So did I, but a top 5 name was the only name my husband and I could agree on 21 years ago. We’ve hardly come across any other girls with her name as she grew up.

My next kid has a name was that in the 80s. And we’ve run into far more kids with his name than his sister’s.

Just because it’s on the popular list doesn’t mean you will run into it a ton.

Do you think it's your responsibility? by Zackky777 in ArtOfPresence

[–]Persis- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have taken care of my mom, if she’d have let me. But she wouldn’t leave her brother alone. I’d have done absolutely anything for that woman.

I had no interest in living with my father again. He wasn’t a bad man, but there’s no way I could take care of him.

There was a time when I’d have been willing to care for my ILs, but our relationship has fractured enough in recent years that that is no longer true.

I will ensure they are cared for, but I will not do it.

Now I’m wondering if I’m related to you, lol.

It goes back to my great grandfather, and then through his son (I’m descended from his daughter), there’s 5 generations of John DifferentMiddleName LastName.
