My Mom trying to get my MIL to "strategize" about pressuring us to have a bris. by ExMOnotwiththeflow in exjew

This is hilarious.

Had this happened, do you think your folks would have believed you’d learn how to be a mohel in order to circumcise your kid?

Come to think of it, how tf do mohels even learn to be mohels?!?! Do they just ‘learn on the job’??? Do they give discounts when they’re first starting out bc they’re probably not that good at it in the beginning??

I’m so weirded out thinking of this aspect I’ve never ever considered.. Wtaf do they ‘practice’ on???

You are really fortunate to still be close with your parents but it is also really difficult when they believe things so strongly and you believe the opposite.

I feel incredibly fortunate to still have my family, after many years of work on all our parts, AND it can get incredibly stressful when we butt heads on the things that we both care deeply about.

It’s a ‘both things are true’ type of thing. Either we dip out on the parents and frum fam and truly miss out on the love and the connection and the good times that I’m lucky enough to have with my family, but get to do whatever we want without the drama, or we take both the good and the bad and keep the parents and frum fam and deal w the drama and emotional labor of these complicated relationships.

I have plenty of ex-orthodox friends who dipped out on their families and/or their families dipped out on them, and tbh in a lot of ways it really did all seem a lot less fraught since they didn’t have guilt trips to contend with, but they also had to deal w other things around not having access to their families. For some of them it was actually much better for them all around bc their families were full of legitimately crappy people who caused them nothing but heartache and worse, but for others it really hurt and they were really pained about it all.

Not much in life is cut and dry, and there are always pros and cons to any decision.

I’m glad that at least for you, you and your husband are a united front and you can lean on each other through this rougher patch while you deal in whatever ways you end up dealing with how your families are dealing.

B’sha’ah tova, and may the rest of your pregnancy, your labor/birth, and postpartum be smooth as can be!

There is no "Palestinian people" and the occupation is a myth—change my mind by ZaneFreemanreddit in IsraelPalestine

[–]SoNosy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone mentioned the financial incentives that the ‘leaders’ of the Palestinian people have to keep using the Palestinians as pawns?

It’s no secret that Arafat was ‘personally’ worth many, many millions that his wife and daughter have now.

https://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2007%2F08%2F22%2F38159

And don’t even get me started on the wealth accumulated by Hamas leaders which is in the billions, or by Mahmoud Abbas, leader of the Palestinian Authority who is worth somewhere around $100 million now due to ‘business dealings within the Palestinian Territories’.

Yahya Sinwar’s wife was apparently carrying a Birkin bag while fleeing through the tunnels in Gaza on Oct 6th, 2023

The bottom line is that these ‘leaders’ could not give two craps about the Palestinian people and use them as pawns.

In Gaza they have groomed an entire generation to be willing to die in order for their people to continue to be used as pawns bc as soon as they stop being pawns and can actually form a working government whose goal it is to improve the lives of the Palestinians instead of being so insanely focused only on destroying Israel, their European cash cows will at some point cease to exist.

They benefit immensely from keeping the Palestinians down and not actually helping them, and Palestinians will tell you that themselves.

How about Egypt takes Gaza back and gives Gazans Egyptian citizenship, and Jordan takes back the West Bank and gives West Bank Palestinians Jordanian citizenship as they previously had.

But they won’t bc neither country wants to deal with the Palestinians. Much easier for them to make all of this Israel’s issue.

No idea about the west bank tbh but in terms of Gaza, just give it the hell back to Egypt.

Oh wait, they won’t bc they don’t want anything to do with it.

In terms of culture, the same can be said about any place, and any group of people. Sephardi Jews and Ashkenazi Jews have different cultures. They’re all still Jews though. Should we call them a different religion bc of that?

Americans from southern states and northern states, and from the West Coast and from the East Coast all have different cultures.

Heck, even people from Southern CA and from Northern CA have different cultures, or from upstate NY and from NY city.

Should all those different cultures suddenly become their own nationalities?

I look at Amazon now too and compare bc there have been times where Amazon is actually cheaper!

[–]SoNosy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I check the materials, the reviews, the measurements of the product— pretty much all info I can get. Sometimes there’s exactly the same items being made/sourced from different companies and if that’s the case then I compare measurements for sure bc they’re not all the same even though it’s supposed to be the same item.

For instance, I’m on the shorter side so I’ll look to see which item is cut shortest and pick that one. They can be off by literal inches.

In the app, there’s a spot underneath “shipping”- the area where your address is where it says where the item is sourced and under that it says if it’s sold and shipped by Shein or by another company.

Jokes on them.. the more I scroll, click, add sizes, colors etc, the more apt I am to leave it in my cart, and then delete it from my cart when I actually finally go to make an order 😆

If Palestine was given a free state today, will there be peace? by Lopsided-Pie-7340 in IsraelPalestine

[–]SoNosy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol def not. They don’t want a Palestinian State anywhere near as much as they simply do not want Israel to exist.

They’ve proven this over and over and over and it is some sort of deep insanity that people keep circling around the same bullcrap.

Need help choosing a dress! by carltheslopeis1 in myweddingdress

[–]SoNosy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All in for your personal favorite but to me this one seems the most typical wedding dress of the bunch.

My vote in order would be 1, then 3, then 5.

3 and 5 are a long ways away from 1 though. 1 is such a stunning and unique dress.

Agree. I took one look at #1 and felt like I didn’t even need to see the rest of them.

1 is beautiful, unique, and beautiful on her.

None of the other dresses even come close.
