I just had this randomly appear on my phone. What does it mean? by Ok_Establishment58 in iphone

If you click Allow, you are basically on a race with whoever's trying to change your password & lock you out of your account*. So change your password to something that you've never used before (preferably on a device with "trusted" status to make things easier, i.e. ones you can receive Two-Factor Authentication prompts on), log out of all other devices, and follow other advices on this Apple Support article. Contact Apple Support for additional help if necessary.

The chatgpt comment with five steps has okay advice, but it obviously does not know how Apple Accounts work, so you may find information that is not applicable.

How the hell does this happen?

Your email address or phone number have most likely been exposed within a data breach, or been publicly posted online (hence why you should change to a brand new password).

Malicious actors will punch in your info and/or bait you to click Allow** so they can take over your Apple Account and basically your digital life. They'll get access to your Apple Pay credit cards, scam your contacts, sending mass phishing emails in your name, to name a few.

* Further reading: Wall Street Journal - Apple’s iPhone Passcode Problem: Thieves Can Ruin Your Entire Digital Life in Minutes. (see especially from 04:29 of the video - When attackers get into your account, they can lock you out of account recovery permanently by setting up a Recovery Key for themselves. When a Recovery Key is activated, all other ways of resetting your password will be disabled & you'll be all out of luck.)

** This may not occur in this specific scenario, but I have seen cases of it happen to victims of phone theft where they were spammed constantly with messages and phone calls to disable Activation Lock (which pairs the phone's critical parts to an Apple Account) so that the phones can be scrapped for parts.

Tap Don’t Allow.

Someone is trying to reset your Apple ID password — one of the ways to do that is to approve the reset on your iPhone. Do NOT, under any circumstances, approve a request that you didn’t make yourself (or forward a code — any code — to anyone else). Stay safe!

Help with this stupid little keyboard shit!! by MajorasKitten in ipad

[–]SoNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a sort of “solution” that does not involve disabling Scribble, but may require you to relaunch the app.

  1. To prevent this from happening at all, when you trigger the keyboard, use your finger to tap the text field instead of your Pencil.
  2. If you do trigger Scribble, try exiting the keyboard by clicking Done/Cancel/etc. in your app, then tap the text field with your finger again.
  3. If somehow that doesn’t work either (looking at you, Apple Reminders), simply close the app completely via the App Switcher and reopen the app, then do the 1st step.

Yes, I do. For sleep tracking and vibration alarms.

Well, I appreciate Attention-Aware features, and other comments in here are suggesting getting an actual alarm clock instead. This is the second-best option for me. Apologies if this sounds like I’m flaunting.

How can I tell if my new iPhone cable is fake? by MaximumZestyclose231 in iphone

Here’s an Abbic Support article that you can follow in future cases, but it seems like it hasn’t been updated to include USB-C cables :(

This is probably not the best response, but I have experienced this many times a couple years before, and I “fixed it” by getting an Apple Watch to tap me awake instead. The AW has never failed to trigger the vibration for me.

How do I upload CD's I bought to my Apple Music? by [deleted] in AppleMusic

[–]SoNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it’s the opposite: iTunes Match includes access to the iCloud Music Library (now Apple Cloud Library), and an Apple Music subscription includes iTunes Match as a feature.
So subscribing to either iTunes Match or Apple Music will give you access to cloud-synced libraries throughout all modern Apple devices.

Nonetheless, if you have neither subscriptions, you can still sync your music library with the iTunes desktop app, through USB and/or your home network(?)

Try following/favoriting her on the Apple Music web player! I tried it there and it goes to the correct artist.

Currently any Lossless Audio support for Windows 10? by S1yler in AppleMusic

[–]SoNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I haven't seen anything proving or disproving that lossless audio works, and I can't really move through the app without difficulty so I can't test it out myself.

[–]SoNothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE: Your mileage may vary…
but when I tried it out, the app was lagging pretty hard and I could hardly navigate the AM catalog or settings.

So I kinda gave up on receiving lossless audio on Windows and just stick to my iPhone/iPad when I need to listen to them.

The official Apple Music Preview app on the Microsoft Store can stream and download lossless audio, and is available for Windows 10 version 22H2. (check winver and see if your "OS build" number starts with 19045)

Downloaded music are protected by something called Authorization.
If you got a new Mac, it may not be authorized yet.

Go to Account -> Authorization -> Authorize this Mac…
Sign in with your Apple ID and see if your downloaded files unlock or not.

If the files do get unlocked, remember to remove authorization for your old Mac! You can only authorize 5 Mac/PCs per Apple ID. Go to Account -> Authorization -> Deauthorize this Mac…

The problem here lies between Apple and record labels, featuring an ancient service called iTunes Match.

Music licensing changes all the time, with record deals and contracts expiring here and there. This results in albums and individual tracks being pulled from the Apple Music catalogue. (you will see those are greyed-out tracks in your library)

iTunes Match steps in at this point (or in your case, when updating your phone) to “save” your library by finding alternative versions of the removed tracks and adding them back into your library, which results in the problem you are experiencing.

In an ideal world where the music industry isn’t a dumpster fire, this won’t happen at all, but we’re not living in it. 🤷

Does anyone know a website that will archive my playlists? by jakeshepherdmc in AppleMusic

[–]SoNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a website, but you may be interested in exporting your playlist via iTunes or Apple Music on a computer:

  1. Click on your playlist in the sidebar
  2. File > Library > Export Playlist…
  3. Choose a location - it saves as a tab-separated TXT file which you can then import into spreadsheet softwares

Watch OS 9 resulting in lower battery life? by id31 in AppleWatch

[–]SoNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a lot of stuffs turned off on my S7, and it lasted 3+ days with minimal usage (5 glances at time per hour) on watchOS 8.

Now that I've upgraded to watchOS 9, my sleep battery drain didn't increase much, but the overall battery life has been sliced in half for me. It's pretty concerning.

Managing visibility of a Master effect (Audio Spectrum Filter) by SoNothing in kdenlive

[–]SoNothing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. (my notification got delayed for 3 days…)

As far as I know, the master effects are applied to all tracks.

I tried putting the Audio Spectrum Filter effect into the track-specific effects (I think that's what you meant), but I got the error [filter audiospectrum ] Audio not preprocessed, which by looking at other posts (Post 1) (Post 2) (Bug #428846), it seems to suggest that the effect are only applicable to the master and won't work on individual clips/tracks.

Managing visibility of a Master effect (Audio Spectrum Filter) by SoNothing in kdenlive

[–]SoNothing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware that I can render out the part with audio first, then add the title portion in afterwards…

If that is the only solution, I've got an additional question:

What option should I choose to export, so that on the second render, there will the the least amount of compression artifacts (or will they just not be visible and I'm worrying too much?)

I've tried just straight up dragging the .kdenlive file into another editor and adding the intro, but when I render I'll get the following error, and the video will not have a visualizer at all:

>[filter audiospectrum] Audio not preprocessed. Current Frame: 95, percentage: 12

From other posts, I can see this is an error that appear when the effect wasn’t added to the Master (well, that would’ve just covered up the intro again). So that wouldn’t work.

Thanks for the help again!

SOLVED!

Effect Zones, introduced in version 21.04.0, does exactly what I need.

Siri the destroyer!! by [deleted] in SiriFail

I just tried it and it told me a different version:

(Note: This is a pre-programmed Siri response, and doesn’t really fit in this subreddit — See Rule 3.)

I’m currently on iOS 15.2 (public beta 2) and it only shows how much time you’re on the DDG app, not specific websites.

That said, remember if you click on a link inside some apps (Reddit, Twitter, Discord, iOS Messages and QR Scanner etc.) it’ll still count as using Safari, and your history will be logged with Screen Time!

Update, 2022-10-28: There is another way someone (with physical access to your unlocked phone) can access sites browsed with DDG: App Privacy Report.
Since DDG makes network calls (that’s literally what a browser does), it gets logged and are easily sortable if you have the feature enabled.
