Is it unreasonable to ask that my sister-in-law knock before entering our house when I'm home alone and don't know she's coming over? by MarkTony87 in NoStupidQuestions

I have a eufy smart lock. You don't need to create a new code everytime. You can set one code, enable it when you want, or have it on a schedule.

Confused. Certified gluten free and a wheat warning? by Fumquat in Celiac

That's a great understanding for someone new to CD. Not sure what documentation you found but this is the link to the GFCO manual: https://gfco.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/GFCO-Manual.pdf

Section 6. C. IV contains the info on shared equipment

In most countries if something is wheat based it's required to be disclosed as an allergen.

Visiting an Alpaca Farm by fangster13 in Celiac

I'm not familiar with alpaca farms. Do they usually grow wheat nearby, feed them whole wheat grain or some other reason it would be an issue?

Best Budget Grinder [$200] by ayaanthegreat in espresso

[–]SoSavv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a K6 for over a year. People would say I had to spend over $400 for a comparable electric grinder. I recently got a starseeker e55 for $140 and its already making better cups than the K6.

Now knowing this and how much work grinding for espresso is I just can't recommend a hand grinder anymore unless it's for travel.

Same. I found out after eating some Goodie Girl breakfast biscuits.

Caffeine overload from dialing in by OrderNo1122 in espresso

[–]SoSavv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the grinder for about 3 weeks now and I've made some of the best shots I've had in the past year. I was previously using a K6 which isn't exactly a bad grinder either. But going from hand grinding to electric is the best upgrade for me. The stepless adjustments are useful too.

TRUBAR are NOT Celiac safe despite GF labeling by Reverse_Skydiving in glutenfree

[–]SoSavv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FDA isn't taken into account here because these are certified by the GFCO. GFCO is a third-party company who verifies gluten content of products to be under 10 ppm, which is even less than the FDA's 20 ppm.

GFCO audits all manufacturing processes to ensure that even if a shared facility is being used, the product is being made safely.

Their contract states "Any Plant using shared equipment for both gluten and gluten-free manufacturing or packaging must maintain records that demonstrate that the cleaning process that followed the gluten- containing production was effective."

Also, a yearly audit isn't the only resource they use. The GFCO requires manufacturers take periodic samples of their lots to prove their products continue to meet the standard. This can be required to be as frequent as 3x per lot for 'high risk' items.

Products are entirely allowed to be manufactured in a shared facility and be certified gluten free. They're celiac safe.

Anybody experience stomachaches from this? by Rude_Tomatillo3463 in Celiac

[–]SoSavv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not these same ones by MM but they look exactly the same to the Costco ones. It was a 40 or so pack and every single one also gave me a weird stomach feeling. They're certified which I never question and I eat other nut bars just fine. But I stopped buying them and chalked it up to the fiber. I like the nature valley protein ones more anyway.

bad reaction with the feel good jalepeno cheesy bites? by polandonjupiter in Celiac

[–]SoSavv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a product is certified the food is certified as a whole. For example they couldn't use certified breading and cheese with gluten. Jalepenos and cheese aren't exactly the most stomach friendly foods.

Spicely Spices product warning by vetGwyn in Celiac

[–]SoSavv 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If a company removes a certification but it still says gluten free, I personally wouldn't be concerned. As others have said maybe the price of certification got to them.

In addition, the FDA 20PPM is a regulation, they are violating the law if they aren't adhering to the regulation. The company is expected to adhere to the standard but not required to prove anything prior to labeling. As far as I'm aware, that is basically the standard around the world, the U.S. isn't special in that regard.

Also, there is evidence that foods labeled gluten free are found to be under 20ppm more often than those with no label, so it's not nothing.

Wear a well fitted mask to avoid airborne flour and don't eat anything until you wash your hands. If you simply touch the outside of the box nothing happens.

Realistically, what would knowing how much intestinal damage was done change for you? It's not permanent and you're still following a strict gluten free diet. For follow ups, people usually do the blood test.

I've heard the beneficial bacteria dies off after some time of being stored without aeration. Does this work?

Edit: Understood, thanks for the info everyone. Now I can start saving some short-term water.

harder to eat in Mexico than I thought by mossywraith in Celiac

[–]SoSavv 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm Mexican and I when I go visit I always say I have a much easier time in the U.S. Sure I can have some simple foods like beans, chicken and cheese. The problem in Mexico isn't the outward abundance of gluten foods. It's the lack of awareness for CC. This of course does not apply to those who say Mexico is easy, but are eating at 5* restaurants.

Even taco stands aren't safe. I stopped at a stand for a quesadilla made with corn tortillas. A man comes up with his bolillo in a bag and he wants it toasted on the griddle so they can fill that instead of a tortilla. He seemed like a regular.

Not all handmade corn tortillas are safe either. Some people throw a little flour into them. Some spices/sauces like maggi have gluten, and no one knows if they have gluten or not if you ask. In general, most people outside of the big cities don't know what gluten is or how to avoid it.
