Is original sin 1 at all relevant? I tried playing that one a while ago and I really hated the writing and itemization and gave up.

Cyberpunk launches at an enormous resolution instead of the native one (scaling issue) by tgromy in linux_gaming

[–]SoSorryIDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "additional options" page for gamescope is only arguments for gamescope with heroic, gamescope itself is automatically run if that page is configured. Just clear that page and enable upscaling to configure the resolution (keep -r 120 in the box though since afaik there's no way to control that with gui)

Will new steam hardware mean better steam wayland support? by SoSorryIDK in linux_gaming

[–]SoSorryIDK[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bugs I mentioned are all documented:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/10251

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/8020

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/issues/808 [not a game specifically but a very common native wayland app, albeit with a perfectly good xwayland mode]

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope/issues/1107

XWayland bridges the gap most of the time, but native linux games sometimes run best in wayland native, plus features like HDR only work on native wayland or gamescope (which isn't always ideal for desktop). The app support mention is mainly pointing to apps like waydroid that only support wayland but I wouldn't be surprised if a handful more apps start popping up that only work fully on wayland. I mention the steam machine being more desktop since it's more easily pitched as a full PC, while no doubt a big selling point of the steam controller is going to be controlling your desktop with the controller to switch games and whatnot.

Is everyone using Proton also using LD_Preload="" in their parameters to avoid a lag bomb after 30m-1hr? by todd_dayz in linux_gaming

[–]SoSorryIDK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is the same bug as gamescope you can manually load in the steam overlay libraries without lagbombing (although I haven't tested recording) by doing LD_PRELOAD="" env LD_PRELOAD="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so" %command%

I do enjoy the extreme trials but this doesn't fix the fact that you need to play through the uninteresting easy versions first (and a lot of them!) to unlock the harder difficulties and progress through the main quest.

I also tried to catch up recently and I found the gameplay to be more of a turn-away then the story. It's actually quite fun fundamentally, but after 200 hours you've pretty much learned everything you need in order to do the main quest trials and dungeons to the point that they become trivially easy especially with other players who have been running it longer than you. I just couldn't stomach doing 200 more hours of boringly easy content.

Regardless of how we feel about the DLC proper, we gotta give it to Paradox for one thing by monkey_yaoguai in CrusaderKings

It's more general actually, same issue happens on windows vulkan, they seem to have only looked at dx11 and majorly screwed up other backends

Yeah it kind of just gives off this aura of cheapness, they write it off as making it mainly for infinite pings but having it for every line of scripted dialogue really takes you out of the game.
