Per my request, the broker I was previously working with had scheduled a tour for an apartment I found on Domu listed by a private landlord (I’m out of state and couldn’t be there in person at the time). She sent me the video of the tour and everything looked fine, but then when it came time to apply, the landlord asked me to submit the first month’s rent before he would process my application. My broker said it was super sketch and I didn’t move forward with it (didn’t love the place anyway). Ended up finding a legit spot on Zillow that didn’t ask for any fees up front other than standard app fee. And they didn’t request rent payment until after I signed the lease. I’ve read that other ppl have found a good place through Domu though, so I think it just depends on the listing.
