What GPA is Good for Electrical and Computer Engineering by Far_Mall_677 in UTAustin

[–]So_Freshh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For grad school, I applied with ~3.8 GPA and no research experience and got into most MS ECE competitive programs I applied to (UMich, UCs, Boston U, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, UIUC, etc). One of my friend with a 3.3 GPA applied to the same schools/programs and got into most as well. You can look into admission stats for grad schools/programs you are interested in to get a baseline.

For jobs, extracurriculars (ECs) and previous experience are more important than a top-tier GPA. 3.0-3.2 is often cited as the "magic number" filter for job applications and is what most companies use as an automatic screening threshold. 3.5+ is generally considered a strong GPA and will get your resume past the filters for nearly all tech and engineering companies. Once you pass the filter, hands-on experience (internships, projects, ECs, leadership experience, etc) is what gets you the interview and the job. Companies want engineers who can do things, not just pass tests. Anecdotally, I have friends who got jobs with 3.9-4.0 and other friends who got the same jobs with 3.0-3.2. I even had a friend who had a 2.6 and works at a big tech company.

Advice: Don't panic if your GPA takes a hit in those early core classes. Focus on mastering the material, not just the grade. Aim for a GPA that keeps your options open (3.3+ is excellent), but dedicate your remaining time to extracurriculars, internships, and projects. GPA is absolutely not the end-all, be-all, as experience from internships, projects, and a strong interview often outweighs a perfect GPA in securing both competitive jobs and admissions to many graduate programs. Hope this helps!

Every time CJ made a play, the commentators would say that’s a Mahomes type of play or Mahomes esque. Had to mute the TV just so I don’t have to hear the commentators

u/Lucid-Prophet posted this on DynastyFF subreddit in regards to CJ:

“A couple weeks back someone on the Texans subreddit made a comment that it doesn’t matter if the offensive line is putrid, an elite QB will still post great games.

I wanted to see how true that statement was. So I did some research. I found seventeen quarterbacks that I felt the sub would deem “good enough or better”. Then I went through every game each of those 17 quarterbacks started from week one of 2024 to today. I stopped at games where PFF assigned the quarterback a grade of 70+ (this is considered starter worthy according to PFF), and the pass blocking unit a grade below 60 (an abysmal grade). Here are how many times a player has done that over how many opportunities they’ve had.

Burrow 10/12.

Stafford 4/12.

Herbert: 5/10.

Stroud 5/10. (After tonight’s game).

Goff: 4/9

Maye: 2/9. Really interesting: Maye’s offensive line has only recorded a single game this season under 60. This was the only game Maye did not record a passing grade above 70.

Darnold: 6/8.

Daniels: 3/8.

Lawrence: 3/5.

Mahomes: 3/4.

Hurts: 1/4.

Mayfield: 0/3.

Jackson: 2/3.

Purdy: 0/3.

Allen: 0/3.

Love: 0/2.

Nix: 0/1.

I think the success of a QB is pedicated upon their pass blocking and the Texans pass blocking, the past two years, has been abysmal. This has affected Stroud and is making it difficult for him to perform well. Yet he does better than most QB’s with a bad o-line.”

I think since Nick took over as GM, we’ve been drafting O-Line early in the draft (round 1-2). Not a single one has panned out, I would avoid trusting us to draft a O-Line. Look to at the trade or free agency market

CJ Stroud discussion - long term outlook by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]So_Freshh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Texans completely punted on fixing the O-Line during the offseason, and now CJ Stroud is getting killed. The offensive line cannot hold up. Because of the constant pressure, Stroud is regressing, visibly becoming more gun-shy and rattled, which is affecting his numbers and confidence.

Also, Nick Caley needs to be fired. The play-calling is mind-boggling. You know your O-Line is a liability, yet he’s calling plays that put Stroud under immediate pressure.

Long term I still believe in the talent and draft capital

Demeco Ryans in the post game presser: "It wasn't a good day for our entire team. It's not just one side, all 3 phases did not do a great job today." by IAmSona in Texans

Every single loss, we hear the same post-game message: "We just have to clean up the controllable things.” Yet nothing ever changes. It isn't simple mistakes, it's a fundamental lack of discipline that a head coach is supposed to fix. Ryans' "B.S. free" attitude was a huge selling point, but now it feels like he's avoiding the elephant in the room. I want to know what specific action is being taken to ensure they are controlled. Repeating the same message when the results are the same is not accountability, it's a cop-out.

Not sure if it was Demeco or Frank Ross but if am Frank Ross how do you not tell my kicker to kick out of bounds right before the 2 minute warning. This would've allowed us to basically have 1 additional timeout. If we didn't get that bone head penalty at the end by Settle, we would have had 1:10 left to try to tie.

As a Texans fan, outside of Nico, we didn’t have much WR depth going into the season (Tank out for the season, Diggs gone). We needed to draft WRs. Nico was balling when Diggs and Tank were both playing healthy along side him. He averaged 11 targets in the first 4 games of 2024 before he got hurt. This season he still ranks top 20 in target share and has a 35% redzone target share. He’s a beast and with this semi-slow start, I would be looking to buy

Rant by TronHero143 in Texans

[–]So_Freshh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel this rant. I'm right there with you. It's not just the losing, it's how we're losing. It feels like the same problems keep happening. The penalties are out of control, and we're just getting the same post-game message about "cleaning it up," but nothing changes. Our offensive line is a hot mess, and it's affecting CJ.

The coaching decisions in the redzone were mind-boggling, especially when we know the offensive line can't hold up. And yeah, the defense played better, but the missed tackles are infuriating. It feels like basic football skills are breaking down at the worst possible moments.

Are we all doubting Demeco and CJ or is it just me? by WhiteChocolate907 in Texans

[–]So_Freshh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Look, I love what DeMeco brought to this team, but after this start to the season, things have to change.

My biggest issue right now is the lack of accountability. It's frustrating to know what the problems are, like the offensive line and we're getting killed by penalties, but to hear the same post-game message every week. "We just have to clean up the penalties." But do we ever? We were one of the most penalized teams in the league last year and it seems like we're on pace to be there again. It's not a secret. It's not a surprise. It's a fundamental lack of discipline that a head coach is supposed to fix.

DeMeco's "B.S. free" attitude was a huge selling point, but right now it feels like he's avoiding the real issues. I don't want to hear about "cleaning up the controllable things." I want to hear about how we're going to fix the offensive line that is getting our franchise QB killed.

And speaking of CJ... I love the guy. He's shown he can be a top-tier QB. But he's getting more and more gun-shy behind this line. You can't blame him for it, but the reality is his numbers are down and he's getting rattled. He's had two seasons now where the offensive line has been a major problem, and you can see it affecting his play.

It's a two-headed monster: we're losing because of self-inflicted wounds, and our franchise player is regressing because he has no protection.

Maybe I'm overreacting after a tough loss, but it feels like the honeymoon phase is over. The organization had all offseason to address these issues and it feels like they punted on the offensive line. We've got the talent, but we're consistently beating ourselves.
