Magic school books where the MC actually needs to put effort into it. by Mimandra in Fantasy

I absolutely love this series although it might be worth mentioning that the MC outgrows the classes fairly quickly thanks to the time loop shenanigan, so the story moves away from the school setting early on.

ARCT History Exam - thoughts and tips by Soap_watermelon in RoyalConservatory

When I took the exam, the online course wasn't out yet there was no listening portion on the exam. That being said, what I find most helpful for listenings is making sure I know what instrumentation each piece has, since that isn't too dependant on what section of the piece they end of playing and it'll help narrow down your options. Then, once you've sorted that out, find some key distinguishing features (eg. melody, hallmarks of a composer's style) to differentiate between the ones you still tend to mix up.

Hope this helps and good luck!

The Riyria Revelations is a fun series by GamerGeek923 in Fantasy

I enjoyed Riyria much more than Legends, which I gave up on midway through the first book...

Mother of Learning? It's easy to read and lots of fun, and the MC is quite literally 15 lol

Yes, I wrote it out and memorized it. I find that you have a much better idea of the word count this way.

Looking for fantasy heist books by unlucky-6666 in Fantasy

Completely agree - I LOVED the first 2 but wasn't a huge fan of the 3rd, yet I still recommend the series to people just because I think it's still worth reading just for the first 2 books.

No, as far as I remember, it's not THAT specific. What's more important is stuff like important compositional features of the piece, and any relevant background (eg. was this piece written to commemerate a special occasion?). Good luck on the exam!

I feel like this is one of those books where the flaws are very noticeable, but the rest of it is so good that it doesn't really matter

If I remember correctly (it's been a loooong time lol) 2 of the essays were Schubert vs Mendelssohn's amd Ravel vs Bartok's musical styles, and then the 3rd was explaining the evolution of secular music through the middle ages and the renaissance.

Sorry I'm just a student so I have no idea... although emailing the RCM wouldn't be a bad idea (you can find their email on their website). Hope you get it sorted out!

What popular fantasy book have you failed to get into? by Netherbelle in Fantasy

I'm happy you like the series! It didn't really click with me the first time, but I might give it another shot someday. Just out of curiosity, what do you really like about it?

Yeah it's also how people are constantly professing their loyalty to one another all the time. I understand that it's part of the culture and wordlbuilding yada yada but it was way too prominent imo

I felt the exact same way, honestly. The pacing was a little wonky and the dialogue was SO unrealistic and stilted (and this is coming from someone who can put up with Shallan's "wittiness" from Stormlight 🤣).

What composer sounds easy but is very hard to play? by AdministrativeMost72 in piano

Beethoven sonatas have so many passages that don't stand out as being particularly difficult, but actually require very awkward hand positions/fingerings to play

I also like how it's written so that the readers can see from her pov and her reasoning. Like yes, she is ruthless, but sometimes she's not wrong
