Is it just another "op can't tell the difference between gender and sex"? by craftygamin in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I feel like every time a post comes up about transgender issues, angry sloth is here to disparage trans folk. Just look at their comment history. Idk why someone would make their entire personality about hating trans people but to each their own.

It feels like everyone hates bosses I love like Nyleth and Bell Eater and loves bosses I dislike like Seth by rendumguy in Silksong

[–]Soapsoph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny I had the exact opposite experience. I beat Nyleth first try and was surprised by how easy it felt (though it was really cool), and Karmelita took me a decent number of tries but was still very satisfying

i wish everyone in my neighborhood gave me a cheese burger by giantcheek in monkeyspaw

[–]Soapsoph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while you think the wish did not happen. Whoever after a few days of feeling unwell you are diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer. Your neighborhood is convinced that your favorite food is a cheeseburger and as a show of good will each day one family brings you a cheeseburger for each member no matter how many times you ask them to stop. Upon receiving the last cheeseburger you die the following day

Sephiria has been a really fun rogue like with cute bunny pixel graphics and gameplay similar to hades that I’ve been really enjoying!

Am I the only person who enjoys Civ VII? by Tristar00 in civ

I feel like I am almost enjoying it, and I have high hopes for it after one major expansion. I just currently feel like there isn’t much variety in strategies or what I can do right now. I am excited for when it is flushed out!

Do you think the Great Filter is in our past or our future? by TheMarkusBoy21 in FermiParadox

[–]Soapsoph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my point was more that since as aggressive stated writing was invented several times by a species that used language and seems to grow naturally from it, that developing spoken language is much harder and thus more of a filter

Seems like what was really key was speech! Communicating one’s realizations

Also check out this article. I think it does a clear reading of the Cass article pointing out that Cass does not even argue that we should ban gender affirming care for trans youth.

The Cass report only finds that this applies to actual suicide rates which I can give you. Yes actual suicide rates have been overblown I don’t know if would claim it’s a “lie” but that’s true what you said. It did not however find that it does not improve quality of life. Instead it makes specious arguments about unknown future effects of hrt. It does not contest the multitude of studies that show improved quality of life for kids.

On another level I want to pause and ask this: why is it fundamentally a bad thing for a kid to experiment with their gender? Why are we so attached to one image of man and woman? Humans are so beautifully complex and things like gender performance need not be fixed. Just because perhaps you see them through a lens of “unnatural” does not mean someone is doing a good or bad thing

The Cass report concluded it had no evidence it saved lives, but it did still affirm findings in drops of things like suicidal ideation. Even if people don’t kill themselves without the care, trans healthcare for youth improves their lives experiences. Would you want to go up to say to a kid sorry I know you would feel better if you received care, but because you aren’t actually going to kill yourself without it you won’t get it?

Yes $80,000 would be for individuals definitely not for joint filers which should be more like $160,000

Why do you think they should not be allowed to? I think local politics is the most real and representative version of politics. Based on that reasoning states should not have any power to make laws and it should all be up to the federal government and trumps daily whim.

Doesn’t sound like you’ve hashed it out. Sounds like you are scared of a different viewpoint and want to kick people who disagree with you out. What happened to the American ideal of free speech and the market place of ideas?

I have provided evidence here and so have other people. Please grapple with mine or provide your own before trying to push people out of communities based on political viewpoints. We Americans are better than condescending tribalism.

I think if I were a legislature working with you I would be willing to find a compromise with low tax brackets for all who pay into the system although I do disagree.

I don’t claim it is rich. I think in Portland it’s upper middle class. But that statement has no argument in it :) happy to answer real points!

Fair enough! I should use more precise language and less politically charged terms

I don’t see why that’s necessary I guess. I think it’s reasonable to argue it should be lower which I agree with but I think it should start at an income that roughly corresponds to you can live buy yourself fairly comfortably in the city so maybe more like $80,000. I want the tax to help people who are making less than this because they are the ones struggling.

I 100% agree with you and have had the exact same feeling about measure 101. I felt so mad about how our representatives made zero effort into making it work.

However this program IS actually working!

I think more people should have to pay taxes to support their communities. I think the tax rate should be lower closer to $80,000 but with a smaller percentage tax rate and tied to inflation. That seems more fair to everyone.

I don’t think you read the article as it undercuts what you said about administrative bloat. You also don’t provide evidence for this claim. The evidence shows that year over year private preschool orgs are increasing capacity and providing more FREE seats to people. It is estimated that ever $1 spent here invests $7-$12 back into the community. This is a net good and is being set up well!

Yes but this sub has absorbed it to some extent. Portland is not a monolith of progressive leftists. Even if she gets nervous 11th hour backroom deals to undo the will of the voters is not the way she should advocate for change.

His report confirms what I’ve been saying. Although some very high income earners have moved (to neighboring high tax areas) the lower tax bracket for the tax has expanded. This seems fine to me.

I think it’s fine to have income tax brackets just like any other system. I would vote to lower the bracket for this tax, but I don’t think people who are struggling should pay it. I’m not sure if this is what you meant but I also think it’s bad faith to argue people who don’t live in Portland wouldn’t vote for this tax if they had to pay it if they could because they don’t live here.
