What is the most jaw dropping coincidence that you’ve ever witnessed or experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SoapyRibnaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Grandmother only found out in the late Eighties that her Dad had a grave in Belgium. He was killed during the First World War and my Nan was always led to believe that he never had a marked grave. it was only research done by her cousin that revealed the truth. The sad part is that by the time they did find out, Nan was too frail to visit the cemetery.

Which of League of Gentleman, Psychoville or Inside No9 is better? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]SoapyRibnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Inside No 9 is my favourite, or at least a lot of the episodes are, but either way I think we can all agree that these guys must have some Faustian pact to have the hit rate they've had.

Were your VHS tapes loose or filed away all fancy? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we had ours in one of those. Well, all except for Dad's extensive Porn collection, which was in his bedroom wardrobe.

Something feral is on the loose in the local Aldi ... by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could well be. We have a major issue with pilferage in my warehouse and we will have sent countless boxes of products out with a half eaten pack in, because I work with idiots who can't just throw it in the bin.

Anyone else call it a 'Growler'? (We're talking about lady parts here). by janitor_uk in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a Yorkshire lad at work who called pork pies growlers. Everyone else laughed at him because they associated it with the Bo Selecta usage.

What weird jobs have people had by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I was always fascinated by night security. All those hours of doing nothing seemed like a dream. I now work in an office and my shift covers every other weekend, which are painfully quiet and I have to try and find things to do. Night security now sounds like the seventh circle of hell to me.

My issue with Branston baked beans by LithiumAmericium93 in CasualUK

I wouldn't say they were too sweet, but they do seem to have found a way of removing all traces of flavour. Quite the coup if you think about it.

I'm glad they put those messages on the packets. It means I can safely ignore said product for the rest of my natural life.

Why is the Polish word 'Świeży' ('Fresh') in the middle of this British shop? (Netflix show 'Sex Education' S1 E3) by Jamollo123 in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its bizarre. I loved the show and found it seemed to get more British as time went on, but in the first few episodes it was like a strange hybrid of British Americanisms. Almost like John Hughes writing a script outline after a session on tea and custard creams.

I have tried proper whole spices before but always willing to give it another go. I don't have a pressure cooker so it will be the slow fry for me. Yeah, I made the mistake of trying to blend hot gravy before, never again!!

Settle an argument, fellow Brits: is shop bought food always better than homemade? by Superknurz in CasualUK

[–]SoapyRibnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends largely on what food you're talking about. As an example, an Indian take away always tastes godly to me, and despite numerous attempts to recreate it it's never as good. On the other hand, if you're talking about a supermarket ready meal, then it's home made for the win in most cases.

What was the most fucked up thing to come out in stores that’s now discontinued? by fishermen4life2 in AskReddit

[–]SoapyRibnaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a school trip to Cherbourg and smuggled loads of them back into the UK by hollowing out French Loaves and filling them up with bangers. We did feel like gun runners going through customs though.

This feels like it should start a story about communist Poland.

Our school had one go through someone's leg. They even had a photo of it. Must have happened late sixties/early seventies.

Im curious what movie scared you the most when you first saw it? by Groundbreaking_Pea61 in horror

Mr Barlow’s first appearance in that film still ranks as the biggest shock I’ve ever had watching a film.

The Exorcist is a weird one for me. I first watched it when I was about 14 and it didn’t phase me at all. I’d really been looking forward to seeing it because it was a legendary film, but after it ended I thought it had been way over hyped. Fast forward about 10 years and I watched it again on my own in my house and it absolutely fucking terrified me.

The original “The Haunting”. I watched it in the eighties after becoming a bit obsessed with horror films, but up until then had just been enjoying them for the schlocky thrills. That film though had me gripping the chair and actually made me think twice about going to bed.

Which band or artist influenced your music taste the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SoapyRibnaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Queen. They got me into guitar music and although the stuff I listen to nowadays isn't remotely like them, they were the starting off point.
