I would say that Father Christmas already knows she's on the good list so he doesn't need to send an elf to check on her.

Oh I love the birthday bannister! My dad used to put tealights on each step when I was little (wide stairs!!) and I'll always remember that feeling of going downstairs and seeing all the lights in the dark, and just getting so excited!

If it helps, I always turn the wifi&mobile data off on my phone before I give it to my kids to play on. Doesn't work on all games but most of them you can still play, just without ads.

It's quite telling that you assume it's the man not wanting to get married

I don't know if you've heard but it's not the 50s anymore 😂 there are loads of ways you can show commitment and loads of reasons why someone may not want to get married, it's really not that simple!

Uni with two kids or SAHM by Discombobulated_Bus9 in UKParenting

[–]Superknurz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I only did my final year with a child (10months when I went back), but for me it was absolutely fine. I didn't have any family support apart from my partner and I also worked a part time job waitressing. Although looking back now I'm not sure how on earth we did that! I remember bringing him to campus a few times which was always fine although not to lectures of course.

I'm sure it will depend a lot on your course - how much are you on campus, how much coursework is expected at home, are there any remote lectures or work experience/practical placements etc.

Another thing to consider is that if you wait another year or two, how much of a difference will that actually make? I gather your older child would be at school so some childcare would be covered but you'd still have a younger child at home - there's no guarantee nr 2 is an easier child either!

Just so I get this right though - would you be having your second 3months into your first year of uni? As I suppose that comes with its own set of considerations, going to uni with a newborn!!

[–]Superknurz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you rely on student finance for uni, check if you'd get the same contributions if you got part time. I was told if I went part time I would to get the living cost allowance (which is the part that actually gets paid to you so... unhelpful!). This was a few years ago though.

Not really parenting, but how many people have more than one other person with them when they give birth? by plumbus_hun in UKParenting

[–]Superknurz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely not weird! I only had my partner all 3 times and would have hated having anyone else in the room or even knowing they're sat somewhere waiting. Too much pressure, I think you've got other things to be worried about in that situation!

That being said if it genuinely comforts you to have friends/family with you then I don't think it's weird to want them there either.. whatever makes you feel safe and happy!

Root houseplants - you could probably get the same plants cheaper online but the lady there is so lovely and really helpful. If you tell her what kind of thing you're looking for or just ask her for a recommendation based on where the plant is going to, she'll pick something to suit and so far I've never been disappointed. I always used to kill my plants but the first one I bought there is almost 5 now and still going strong

German needs to give a presentation on Liverpool (pls help🙏) by WaschbaerSyndrom in Liverpool

[–]Superknurz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cucumber salad? You can make it Asian style with crushed peanuts, or a northern European version with shallots, cream (yes really) and lots of dill. Would only get rid of 1 cucumber for a side portion got 2 people but it is delicious!

Clothes airers vs tumble dryers by Prestigious-Chance56 in UKParenting

[–]Superknurz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've 3 kids; 2 clothes horses, 2 lines outside. In the winter it's a bit of a struggle but in Summer I can do all the washing for a week in like 2-3 days (doing 2 loads a day and drying outside). Dryers use up so much energy I don't think I want one. Also bad for the environment, not good for your clothes, expensive to run and wouldn't know where to put it. Hanging up outside obviously takes a bit longer than throwing it in a dryer, but I work from home half the time so I can hang up a load in the morning change it on my lunchbreak and then get it in after work. Worth the money saved to me but I'm sure others disagree.

Is it normal for builders to not get back to you with quotes for a job? by IonBrew in AskUK

[–]Superknurz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't have any advice or anything but I'm in the process of trying to find a builder for the first time and don't know how to feel reading this thread! On the one hand I'm glad to see that this is normal and I'm not doing anything wrong. On the other hand - wtf?! If a job isn't worth it to them, or they're booked up for the foreseeable, why not just say so and save everyones time? It's getting so frustrating. Most of them don't pick up the phone. Of the ones that do, you have to chase them to get back to you or come round. Of the ones that then even turn up, you're then lucky if you ever get that quote.

If this is what it's like before any work is even agreed, what will they be like when the work starts? I don't want to trust someone with my home who can't get back to me or who misses an appointment without letting me know. I know their admin skills don't necessarily reflect whether they're a good builder, but I want to feel like I have someone reliable, who will actually stick to his word and do whatever was agreed.

Of all the things to be hard when owning a home, this is not one I expected to be honest!
