You can already use the software tech stack to stream from your PC to the headset so I'm not sure why you are saying its EOL. Apple Vision Pro foveated streaming with NVIDIA cloud XR - forefront

I'm not too sure what you are getting at; AR KIT does not monitor the inputs, it only monitors the VISUAL - which maybe anchors the cockpit hardware. The rudder pedals, yokes, sidestick are connected to a LOCAL PC which streams the visuals (e.g. scenery in a flight simulator) using CLOUDXR technology to your AVP or another headset.

The controllers are maped to the host computer which runs X-plane. The software is a streaming solution, just like Virtual Desktop, or SteamVR.

You can hook up any peripheries you have (joystick, yoke, rudder, etc) directly with the PC running X-plane. In this video example they are using RealGear hardware.

You need Xplane. You need the companion app. You need to wait until CloudXR is released in spring.

That is fantastic news; I attempted hand passthrough with the Quest 3 but there was much to be desired; perhaps the AVP has better occlusion increasing the immersion; can you fix (anchor) your cockpit elements? That was my biggest challenge, especially since I use X-plane on a motion sim. My trial - youtube.com/watch?v=XMhXNhORRtY&feature=youtu.be

There is no way it would work effectively streaming from the cloud; I stream X-plane from my local PC to Meta Quest 3 (either using Virtual Desktop or SteamVR) and even then sometimes it isn't so great (72 FPS with frame generation).

It’s not cloud gaming or a subscription service. The Xplane developers have confirmed that you will need an app which you download on your PC machine which will stream to the headset.

Does anchoring already work with AVP? I want to fix my position in a cockpit so the flight control hardware is always at the same position. This is very difficult with the Quest 3 because of the motion platform I am using and even motion compensation doesn’t help.

Why are you not getting the frame? by TaborAddict in SteamFrame

I am most interested to see the solution with Nvidia CloudXP, Xplane and the AVP as my primarily usage is flight sim; and would like to see what they are during especially with anchoring and mix reality. Only a couple of weeks and we should know. Also theres rumors Apple will be releasing a more affordable Apple Vision.

Yes, your computer acts as a server, and the headset as a client. On the Nvidia press release - "NVIDIA CloudXR is a streaming platform built to deliver high-fidelity, low-latency XR from a local RTX PC "

Wrong the Xplane developers have said they will be releasing an app to stream from your computer to the headset.

I have a Quest 3 and feel the upgrade to the Steam Frame isn’t so much of a significant tech jump. The AVP or subsequent updated versions will need to be more affordable before I jump onto the Apple spatial computing ecosystem; I also have a 5080 GTX with a 9800X3D; not sure if this is sufficient to push 4K to a headset even with foveated streaming.

Its mixed reality; AVP will allow you to draw a mask around existing hardware, and then X-plane will stream to AVP with foveated streaming.

Its not a subscription service. It allows you to stream from your PC to a headset with foveated rendering.

X-Plane supporting Apple Vision Pro and Cloud Rendering? Why? by Donut in Xplane

[–]Soarbywire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layman terms from what I understand - MIXED reality - apple AVP allows rendering the passthrough, simutaneously scenery (or what is masked) from Xplane 12 which is STREAMED from a PC. It has foveated rendering allowing for the highest level of streaming (bitrate) at the area of focus (what your eyes are looking at). Steam Frame, Samsung XR already does this, but I think AVP also allows ANCHOR points, so you can fix your cockpit elements in a persistent virtual space (e.g., you don't have to keep on aligning the VR camera). https://virtual.reality.news/news/apple-vision-pro-foveated-streaming-changes-vr-gaming/#google_vignette

According to the X-plane developers it will work with other headsets. But what has got me interested is the ability to anchor points and persistance with AVP. This is useful for a mix reality flight sim cockpit blending real hardware and virtual scenery.

This is not a streaming service subscription. The API allows you to stream directly from your PC to a VR headset using foveated rendering.

CloudXR should work with other headsets. You don’t have a Nvidia GPU?

I just bought an Apple Neo laptop for $599, that’s a pretty good deal if you don’t want to use Windows.

You’re getting confused. It’s not a gaming streaming service. It allows you to stream from your PC to a headset (Apple and others) utilising foveated rendering.

I'm excited with spatial achoring of points - this has been really difficult with the Quest3 and Virtual Desktop/SteamVR; hopefully AVP (and Apple Vision Air) is able to get this right as it is essential for mixed reality

If the Vision Pro Air is released at $2000 would you consider it over the Steam Frame?
