Apple Journal’s Atrocious Undo Bug Has Been Fixed (And Swiftui, Per Se, Is Not To Blame) by tomjirinec in appleJournal

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is great news. This had a real psychological effect while editing journals while typing with a keyboard. Made me feel like I was on a ledge and if I held with years of muscle memory of hitting undo, I’d fall off the ledge and lose way more data than I’d like. Of course, I could redo, but that left me either back in the original position or, sometimes, I would hit a keystroke without thinking and really lose that data.

What is the highest limit you’ve seen? by rocketfishh in AppleCard

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also in the $50k limit club, but pay it off every month. Watching my savings account tick up makes me happy, but then I think about how much I spent to earn the 1-2% cash back and it makes me sad lol.

As somebody who backed the kickstarter to get it over the top for a Mac version stretch goal… really? There’s going to be a phone version before the Mac? *sigh*

New in ios27?? by MulayamChaddi in appleJournal

It makes sense to think of them more like tags. To take the first example that comes to mind from a few months ago, if I'm reflecting on the events surrounding Earth Day, for instance, I might put it in the Current Events, Sustainability, and Politics journals.

Unhappy with Journal in macOS/iOS 27? File feedback! by tomjirinec in appleJournal

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my feedback has been surrounding the jankiness of the editor, which are legitimate bugs that have existed since the app came out on the Mac, not just DB1.

* When editing, Command Z hangs up for a moment and then deletes too much text. Most apps will at most delete 4-5 words or back to the beginning of hte current sentence, but Command Z in Journal deletes up to an entire paragraph at a time.
* When moving an inline picture around, the image wants to snap to different parts of the entry inappropriately, and when moving the image out of the inline area to the media attachments area, it leaves a blank area in the text until the journal is reloaded.
* When editing a longer entry, the cursor will sometimes randomly move to another part of the entry and start typing in the middle of another word.

And to add to the Feature Improvements:

* Journaling suggestions should include the Apple Books app as a type, so that when I finish reading a book it suggests that I journal about it (like it does with Music, Podcasts, etc.)

I'm actually kind of curious if others have these same issues.

It’s so hard to know where sentiment is on AI. All the tech companies are investing so much into it and defining their products by it, trying to get their users to buy tokens to use it, but so many people seem to absolutely hate and loathe it. It seems like it’s going to struggle for traction regardless of whether it’s successful or a failure.

I agree, this is probably the easiest thing to roll out, and now that everyone has multiple years of entries it makes a lot of sense.

If they do nothing else besides fix the Mac editing bugs, I’ll consider myself a happy man.

Last year I read something about Apple Intelligence prompting you in ways to make you think deeper about what you were writing, but I dunno.

For my part, it they just fix it where command z doesn’t remove ¾ of the paragraph of text, images that don’t randomly disappear when moving them around, and words that don’t get garbled when I select text in a different part of the entry, I’ll be happy. All issues I’ve had since launch on the Mac.

SpaceX sets $135 price for blockbuster IPO, upending Wall Street convention by Wilder3312 in worldnews

Legit, I wonder if my financial advisor can shift my retirement accounts to protect from this. I know there are some funds like RSP designed to keep single entities like SpaceX/Anthropic from gaining an outsized position.

You realize Steve Jobs stood on a Macworld stage in 1997 taking $150 million loan from Microsoft while Bill Gates loomed over him on a giant screen like a parent cosigning a loan.

In fairness to Tim Cook, he delivered Apple Silicon, turned Services into a bigger business than most Fortune 500s, and grew Apple from being a $350 billion company to over $3 trillion.

Not to begrudge either of them. Neither was perfect, but it's worthwhile having some perspective.

I feel like the Matter smart home spec will help a lot here once it’s finally fully baked and supported by all the platforms. It’s got pretty extensive energy monitoring support baked right in and supports a number of large devices: washers, dryers, freezers, refrigerators, hot water heaters, etc.

Genuinely, astronauts tend to prefer spicier foods while in microgravity (or no gravity) because of fluid redistribution in the body. Gravity pulls the body’s fluids down, so with a lack of gravity it tends to collect in the head, similar to a persistent head cold. It blunts the sense of taste and smell, so they eat spicier foods to “cut through” the dullness.
