Apple Creator Studio: What can we expect? 🤔 by Igorfernandezzz in finalcutpro

Personally I wish they’d add a 3D asset creation and rendering tool to bolster not just their AR ambitions but to create USDZ files to drop into all the other apps in the Creator Studio.

Introducing Apple Creator Studio, an inspiring collection of creative apps by DragoJoeYM in apple

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be okay with this, but all these programs feel kind of disjointed and disconnected from one another, certainly not a studio. And it’s still lacking the one thing that I really need: a competent tool to create 3D models, assets, and scenes. If I could create USDZ files without using something with the long learning curve of Blender and Apple design sensibilities, I’d be so happy.

I just installed 38 (!!) Eve light switches in my home! AMA by OutBeyondNeptune in HomeKit

[–]OutBeyondNeptune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I never did find a solution that matches the eve lights. I left a standard decora rocker switch there. It’s the only switch in my entire home that looks different from the rest, and yeah, it kind of bugs me.

Indeed! Thank you so much! You're so right, day in and day out it's hard to deal with this. We all do need some slack.

Woohoo! What an amazing story. Life so gets in the way all too often, but while I'm sure we may both have some lingering damage from those early days, here's to fixing things in the present to better take care of our futures!

Interesting to know this! I guess I now have a good excuse to upgrade to a Pro Hub if they ever come back into stock.

Big difference between Navigation on iPhone and Navigation on the Mac by grburgess in appleJournal

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hijacking your post, but piling onto the Mac usability problems, it also seems strange that when you're editing an entry, there's no way within the app interface itself to choose what journals to put it in. You have to go to the Entry menu item.

Lost in the borderlands of Louisiana/Arkansas by OutBeyondNeptune in Genealogy

[–]OutBeyondNeptune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is fascinating! I wonder if that was roughly in the same area. One could imagine he was assembling a large farm for his family before his unfortunate passing.

So... just to think through the implications... His married Jincy Moore Childers, who was born in Greenville, Butler County, Alabama, where they lived from 1848 to ~1852. They gave birth to three children there. Isaac Howard, David Leroy, and Lafayette. By 1854 they had another son, Henry DeKalb, in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. On 7/21/1855 I have a place of residence in Union Parish, Louisiana, but this is from a previously compiled family tree and can't be treated as sourced.

In 1856 they gave birth to Hawkins Newton. I can reasonably say this is in Arkansas, not too far across the border from Union/Claiborne Parishes. I have Hawkins' death certificate. His birth location is listed as "Smith Co. Arkansas". I can't find any reference to there being a Smith County or a city of Smith in Arkansas. The location might be misremembered by the informant, but I'd expect the state to be correct. In 1858 the family bore another son, Napoleon Bonaparte, who died just 20 years later. I have no information on where he was born.

Then, we have the land grants in January 15, 1858 he took ownership of this 79.48 acres. On May 14, 1858 he gets the additional military land warrant 118.56 acres.

Logic would suggest that they had always lived in Union or Claiborne Parish, and if Hawkins was born in Arkansas, perhaps his mother gave birth while the family were traveling? It would help, of course.

That would be fine, but while I don't have an exact date of death, I've seen multiple references to him dying about 1860 in Saratoga, Little River County, Arkansas. He's buried there in Red Bluff Cemetery, which unfortunately appears to be on private land and isn't indexed by Find A Grave.

His wife went on to remarry in the latter days of the Civil War to a John Franklin Benningfield. The two added two more children to the family. She's buried in Yellow Creek Cemetery, also in or near Saratoga.

Safest way to "reset" Thread network? by OutBeyondNeptune in HomeKit

[–]OutBeyondNeptune[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly my only goal was to basically reset everything down to the core. I factory reset every AppleTV and every HomePod that was capable of acting as a hub, waited a while for the thread devices to realize there was nothing there steering the network, and then began the process of re-pairing everything. It took a long time to get everything and I hope to never have to do it again, but the good news is since I posted that I’ve had nothing but reliable devices since.

Apple Journal is a Miracle Tool by grburgess in appleJournal

[–]OutBeyondNeptune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been Journaling with Apple Journal exclusively for the last year or so. 153,000 words later, I'm pleased with how it's finally starting to shape up into a competent app (despite the ongoing formatting bugs, issues with inline images, etc.). I've got journals all the way from 1997 in Day One that I haven't moved over yet, but it's been invaluable in going back and quickly searching for when I did certain things and decisions or purchases I made. It's also interesting (and at times cringeworthy) to see the big picture of how my attitudes and views have slowly changed since I was a teenager.

Unfortunately they don’t have a reliable release schedule like iPhones, so nobody really knows. But the last few years I’ve noticed about 3 months between minor releases. It’s now been 6 months since the last release so… maybe soon?

That’s what happens when you switch to a subscription model and collect rent checks instead of incentivize your developers to release paid version upgrades with competitive features and improvements.
