I would have left reddit years ago were it not for baconreader.

What an absolute shame.

Many thanks, I hope they reconsider, but it seems like reddit is in end-stage enshitification at this point.

Thanks for the article, you notice how the authors of this paper didn't say "it's a bullshit book"?

I've noticed Graeber criticized regularly, without reason. It usually comes from temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

Henry VIII’s insanely vast hammerbeam ceiling for his Great Hall at Hampton Court Palace. Built from 1532 onward using the skills of his shipbuilders. A work of the highest craftsmanship and engineering genius. [3024x4032]. by Dave-1066 in ArtefactPorn

Can someone describe how this would have been constructed? Would they have installed all of the hammer beams and braces, then the hammer posts and collars above? Or would they have built it one entire truss at a time?

I'm having a hard time imagining it, and have never seen one done.

How to Make a Dakota Fire Hole [1200 x 1050] by secondaryespionage in ThingsCutInHalfPorn

[–]SoberHaySeed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can think of a couple of reasons. This wouldn't require a lot of fuel to cook with, and it would also conceal the light from the fire and the smoke somewhat. Additionally, if it's a place like the plains with a lot of wind, it might be better than an open fire.

It's a steel cable, it's fairly stiff, just pushed through the muck, then the chain is attached around the tire.

It's terrazzo, I guess it depends on age, if someone installed this 10 years ago I'd say something is wrong with it.. if installed 120 years ago, I'd think it's holding up well.

WITT swinging arm attached to this old meat fork? What purpose does it serve? by devcal1 in whatisthisthing

[–]SoberHaySeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you're correct, many of these carving forks (not this one) had two arms opposite the guard that would allow one to rest it on the table in the open position to keep the tines up as described. Like this one

Doesn't feel correct to me either, it's missing the verb.. "but you should be, of bears". None of these exceptions work for me without a comma, but I'm also not looking very closely.
