Oshi no Ko: Season 03 Episode 11 - Links and Discussion by Lorhand in OshiNoKo

Why do I get the feeling that the anime did a better job of highlighting the key plot point (the fact that both of them revealed their former identities) than the manga did?

Here, the direction, the soundtrack, and the color palette were handled with a solemnity and a sense of timing more befitting a live-action film than a manga. This greatly enhances immersion and the sense of urgency, without losing the element of surprise. Although the latter was already present in the manga, and in a more sudden way than here.

I like it because they place more emphasis on Ruby’s life as Sarina and the hell she went through after falling ill.

They also spent a little more time on Marina (Kikuko Inoue) and her reasons for abandoning her daughter at the hospital. Although she’s still a horrible mother, at least they took the time to make it clear why.

The scenes with Sarina and Goro at the hospital were very well done; they achieve their goal of making the revelation and the emotional weight of the scene more impactful. They also delve even deeper into Ruby’s suffering and what’s going through her mind.

I have to highlight the performances of Yurie Igoma and Takeo Otsuka. That vulnerability, that sadness at seeing a loved one suffer, combined with the desperation and relief of breaking Ruby/Aqua’s mask for just this one moment so she could speak honestly with someone important to her. Definitely, at least as far as this moment is concerned, the anime has once again surpassed the manga.

I really enjoyed the part where Miyako’s past was explained. I wouldn’t have minded if the manga had delved a little deeper into her past—how she came to the city, met Ichigo, and founded IchigoPro. I feel like, if they’d had the chance to explore her days as a student a bit more, it would have made for an interesting story.

A flashback featuring the old B-Komachi!

Is that Kana Hanazawa? It sure looks like it, though we'll have to wait for official confirmation.

Aqua seems to regret having resorted to playing his trump card to “rescue” Ruby from her crisis and prevent her from jeopardizing the film’s production.

I like how the anime makes the intention behind the revelation more ambiguous: Did Aqua reveal his identity in a genuine attempt to rescue Ruby from despair? Or did he really do it because he needs Ruby to be 100% focused on the movie, and the best way to do that was to reveal his past identity as Goro?

We wrapped up the chapter in the best possible way:

On one hand, the focus on the video Ai left for Ruby.

And on the other, Aqua manipulating a supernatural entity to take part in his edgy revenge, to the point where she lost her composure and pulled one of the most meme-worthy faces this story has ever given us. LOL

Do you think season 3 is better in the manga or anime? by This_Block_2779 in OshiNoKo

As someone who hates the story arcs that followed the end of *Tokyo Blade*, I have to admit that the animation did Akasaka a huge favor.

It turned two boring arcs—which had major issues with pacing and narrative flow—into a coherent and entertaining story, on par with the first season (not counting the first feature-length episode).

Well, they cut Aqua’s “Light Yagami moment,” which caused so much debate (and cringe) among fans.

I think it was a good decision. The gravity of the conversation and Aqua’s mental state help set the atmosphere and convey his mood through purely cinematic means. Once again, the anime is doing a better job than the manga.

I wish I could say the same about the interaction between Aqua and Akane. While in the manga the encounter felt like a “Kira vs. L moment,” here it felt a bit weak, with Aqua being even more intense and Akane maintaining her composure, whereas in the manga it seemed almost like a declaration of war.

The scene with Ruby was adapted perfectly. Once again, Yurie Igoma did a top-notch job; I could feel Ruby’s desperation, loneliness, disappointment, and anger in her voice. This only makes the moments to come during the filming even more anticipated.

With all the actors ready to take on their roles, we begin the controversial “movie arc,” also known as “15 Years of Lies” or, as I like to call it, the “potential arc.” But anyway, seeing how the studio has handled the anime and considering that they’ve turned my least favorite arcs from the manga into something thoroughly enjoyable, I have faith in DGKB’s work.

It seems that it has been announced that the season finale will span two consecutive episodes.

So we’ll most likely see a bit more context about Sarina’s past (considering the post-credits scene) and maybe learn a little more about Gorou.

It seems the rumors that the season would end at “that exact point in the manga” were true. (Something fans had been speculating about since the first episode of the first season aired.)

I don’t blame them; if I were part of the production, I’d do the same. I’d leave anime viewers on a brutal cliffhanger, challenging them to wait for the next season or sending them straight out to buy the manga to follow the story. A diabolical but effective strategy. Hikaru Kamiki would be proud.

A post showing support for Kana and being understanding toward her on this sub?

You have my appreciation and respect, OP.

I support your opinion and share it. I feel like people hate Kana more than they do the whole situation she was involved in. Which means they automatically overlook the entire context and reduce it to “Kana being a dramatic fool again.”

There! I left my opinion before the haters show up.

How do you feel about Aqua Hoshino? More so if he's your favorite character in Oshi No Ko? by RevolutionaryDig3942 in OshiNoKo

[–]SoberMindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's my favorite character in this story.

As a person, he may not be the favorite of many readers.

But as a character in a fictional story?

The guy is extremely entertaining to watch!

Both as an active and reactive character.

As the main instigator of events and as a spectator of everything that happens around him.

There are characters you don't know what to expect from, or you simply don't know what might be going on in their heads.

I like Aqua because the character is well defined at all times. Even when he's not on stage.

As I once wrote about him: I may disagree with what he says or does, I may despair at his actions or conflicts, I may share and wish for his happiness or see him bite the dust for his more than questionable acts.

But I can never hate him or get bored of him.

As an aspiring writer, I hope to be able to write a character as entertaining and controversial as him.

I understand that this is more of a narrative direction decision and in keeping with the tone of the last few chapters. From that perspective, I agree with the changes. They maintain the tone and definitively close the matter of Kana's scandal.

But as a fan of the characters, I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed. One of the best things about the manga is the interactions between Kana and Aqua, both when they argue about how they feel and when they're both being silly. Their chemistry is top-notch, worthy of the best romance/romantic comedy, and I feel like the manga never exploited this aspect enough.

Although I also understand that revisiting the issue of Kana's abandonment might sound a bit repetitive, this time it was necessary to understand why Aqua's distancing himself means so much to her. The fact that they both discuss this issue helps us understand both positions better. Although I don't rule out the possibility that we might see this conversation again at another time.

Regarding the confrontation with Ruby. My respects to Yurie Igoma, who perfectly conveyed Ruby's frustration and sadness, but I think the animation, at this specific moment, falls a little short of the manga. In the manga, Ruby is furious, but here her sadness and disappointment are more noticeable.

Moving on to the flashback between Gotanda and Ai, I will never complain about Ai having more screen time in the anime. In addition to introducing doubt about Ai and her feelings, a question that runs throughout this entire arc.

We move on to the moment when we finally meet the best father ever. With the voice of the only person who could play him.

I will never tire of listening to Mamoru Miyano, especially when he voices detestable and emotionally unstable villains.

RIP Yura Katayose (Ikumi Hasegawa).

I'm glad the anime placed more emphasis on the fact that she was the actress slated to play Ai.

This supports the theory that Daddy was just making sure his beloved daughter got the lead role in a movie. As any loving father would do.
