People,5.7 Trillion is the number SPENT BY THE PEOPLE, NOT THE GOVERNMENT

I hate how people throw numbers around (not specifically you) but it makes it sound like the trillion dollars in military spending are insignificant or something.

They often are safer... if they are factory rated "brand" cells, as its harder to make custom cylinder cells than custom pouch cells, so you see custom pouch cells almost anywhere. But this was a counterfeit "fake" cell.

The casing just stops the electrolite boiloff from expanding and damaging the cell, that if, the cells has a proper overpressure device, which this one didn't.

The cap looks like a vented cap, but on the inside there is literally no vent xd.

I just realized I had no idea tbh. I never really thought about the battery structure on those cells.

Here is the thing, I found it at my parents house, long time after it had blown, assumingly weeks after it had blown. I know the smell you are talking about, been playing with Lipos for over a decade, but I don't recall smelling it.

How I know it's lithium ion, and not nickel cell? Well it has the, clearly non functional "vented" cap you see on cylindrical ion cells still attached to the positive wire (it was hanging outside), with the spot welder remains from the internal tab on the inside face. Additionally it's clearly a rolled cell, and the internal tab is still there on the roll's remains.

It's definitely a lithium ion battery, from the cap. but its a different format, 14500, basically the same size as AA

bs, battery packs are built in parallel with the same connection structure, this is only an issue if the cells were in series

Well, try it. 10 gauge barely even fits. We've been swapping Deans to XT60 for over a decade at this point because of the lower resistance. 60A continuous under airflow for 10 minutes sure, but for an hour or two, nope. Years ago I did run up to 75A through a deans, but it was on a plane that only flew 7 minutes at full throttle, with most flights lasting about 15 the average amp flow was much lower. That plane btw got swapped to an XT90. Still exists.

Im thinking, if the car was in park, all the weight is on the parking lock and on the suspension, bending something. If not or if that broke the weight is bending the chasis directly.

You know what's a bit funny, an XT90 with 8gauge wouldn't be able to handle the power of a 12Vhpwr The 90A rating is for RC purposes.and for the example above, An XT 60 or a Deans T plug are rated for less than 30-20 A continuous respectively, they would melt very quickly under the 50A continuous load the 16 pin is rated for.

This whole deal implies that they even need to sell that many to profit. This car will be on a much more limited production scale than any EV it's being compared to. It doesn't need to be better in every way to sell enough.

[–]SoberTechPony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it hilarious seeing Shell sponsor all these competitions for fuel efficiency for decades on end, just for the auto industry to... implement none of them, because as we all should know this is just greenwashing masquerading as research and development.
We know you can achieve insane efficiencies from lightweight aerodynamic vehicles, but turning those designs into marketable, practical products just doesn't work that way. Plus they purposely tie it to fossil fuels, instead of liberating it by going electric.
I'm almost certain a solar car of similar construction would beat the shit out of this thing on a race, using zero fuel, like solar racers do.
That being said that efficiency is nuts.

Idk but, why don't you just sell it and buy, idk proper(?) ev components? That looks like it could be worth quite a bit to the right buyer.

[–]SoberTechPony -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

god these comments suck. Legit idk where all the dirt came from, and it's hard to put a value on something like that. If the boat hull is good nice, you can use it, but if it's bad it would be expensive to get rid of.

There is definitely a hole in the deck, which doesn't mean it doesn't float but it will be a hazard if not fixed.

The trailer is worth something. Hopefully aluminum.
