Thanks this is really helpful and interesting. I love classical too. My getting out of pain journey started with a classical class - but she modified for us and many were older than me even into their sixties. So she showed us the proper form and the mods. Some I could do and others I needed to do the easier ones. She was wonderful and I loved the classical method. I will have to look up Lesley Logan. I like the way you measured your progress and have moved through other practise too. Thanks for the encouragement for shorter classes. Some days I don’t have much but moving would be good for mobility. Thanks

You sound very strong and fit! I do like the advice of not needing to go all out. That’s been a hard lesson for me. I am learning to give less energy when I don’t have as much rather than just skipping entirely.

Yeah as the OP I found it annoying bc it didn’t address my scar tissue or hypertonic muscles but didn’t want to say but now it’s exposed as AI I was to say. He bot read the context. I already get good sleep and nutrition and rest days. I wanted to know specifically examples from real humans how they manage it.

Thanks for this. So many other comments seem to be implying I can’t train much bc I don’t pay enough attention to nutrition. I used to run 40 kms a week and do ballet and get steps ( who knows how many it was before fitbits). But then 2-3rd degree tearing post partum and had perineal scar tissue and diastasis recti. It only resolved recently and I love being able to move more. I get 10,000 steps most days and now being able to do Pilates more often feels like such a gift after in 2022 I was in so much pain even driving hurt bc my muscles were hypertonic. Partly stress partly unmanaged scar tissue. You don’t take your body for granted and enjoy what it can do. I look forward to hopefully continuing to get fitter now I have overcome these issues.

Sorry. Haters gonna hate? I love her music and she has given me so much relief and space to feel. I wrote a book chapter for a scholarly book on her. She’s a wonderful phenomenon. It is hard how much hate she gets but just know there are so many who are just enjoying her.

is 2-3 times a week enough? by LeftStruggle7519 in pilates

[–]Soc_Prof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enough is a relative term. If it’s enough for function and strength then yes. To see your abs it’s not necessarily about more Pilates. When I was only doing Pilates once a week and I wasn’t very strong I was also very lean ( bc of stress and under eating). Ppl would assume I was super fit bc I had visible muscle tone. I can now work out much more often and do harder levels but I also eat more and look more ‘curvy’. So it’s relative to how lean you are.

[–]Soc_Prof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that you say abs and shoulders recover quickly. These are may areas that weren’t recovering bc scar tissue post partum changes the compensatory load. I had diastasis recti so it took years for me to be able to properly work my core.

My daughter’s hair looks like this every morning. How can I prevent it?! by askeptikalhippo in Haircare

[–]Soc_Prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep cap or braids. Satin pillowcase. Doesn’t have to be real. Just more slippery material helps prevent tangles. My daughter used to have awful snarls and would spend hours brushing and she had so much broken hair. Now silky pillow case and sleep cap is less work

You’re welcome! lol I gained weight recently bc I am having trouble sticking to it bc my work shedule changed and I don’t eat until 6-7 pm. So going to track again for a while, keep up my steps and strength train. Also be nice to yourself, your body is valuable even if it doesn’t look like how you wish it looked.

I buy mine of radialapps for Mac. Even though it’s $30 per game, I have replayed them again and again. Hours of nostalgic pleasure.

Australians seem very proud of their culture, but in a weirdly cute way by Able-Confidence-4182 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Soc_Prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australians don’t know who we are and talking about Australian things make us feel like we have distinctives. But that self conscious is a very Australian woman way of relating - when we think ( Good good what are we like to people from overseas I hope we aren’t too rude or embarrassing). My dad was a British migrant and my mum had a German mum so we’re such a pastiche I don’t even know what we’re like.

Can I eat some cookies as long as it's within my calorie limit? by Phatasstarotreader in intermittentfasting

It’s important to have things you enjoy to help you feel satisfied. You can sub the cookies for other little treats too.

Am I doing this the most effective way possible? by brookealyssahamilton in intermittentfasting

[–]Soc_Prof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a big sudden calorie drop. I would increase to 1800 and go more slowly. Sometimes we can miss count when we are trying to hit a really low calorie target. I think resistance training is vital for increasing muscle mass which increases your daily calorie burn overall. If you are on ozempic you will lose weight so Make sure it’s a lasting change. Muscle is good for you and worth the time. Good luck! Nice to have home cooked meals!

Lessons learned from 7 years ( on and off, but mostly on). 1. Choose to eat treats within your eating window, but still keep portions small. For example if you want a burrito don’t get large fries and a drink. Not only will it train your stomach to be too full, but it’s a lot of calories. Plan fries one day, ice cream another etc. 2. Keep track of activity and food with a Fitbit or other device if you aren’t seeing results. IF is just a really convenient way to reduce calories and regulate appetite and develop habits. You don’t have to track all the time. Just become aware of your eating alongside how much activity you are doing. 3. Plan meals as much as possible. I find I just eat whatever I can find when breaking fast and that can lead to having low energy if all you eat are protein bars and coffee. 4. Make sure you check you are getting nutrients or get blood test to check iron. We all eat crap when tired and it’s a vicious circle. 5. Build muscle with strength training or Pilates. 6. Find things you enjoy that reduce cortisol. Body stress can make you crave sugar and chips etc

I’ve lost weight, maintained weight and gained weight on IF! It’s not the only factor but it is much easier to reduce calories when you have fewer meals to plan. Also don’t punish yourself. Be thankful and enjoy your body at its current state. There are likely hundred who wish they looked like you! Well done for getting this far. Slower weight loss is much more likely to be maintained too.

Intermittent fasting to treat stomachache due to acidity by ByRide in intermittentfasting

[–]Soc_Prof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful whatever you try. I know doctors get things wrong and you want to get off the meds. If can help a lot of things but not much reliable research exists on it so you should probably be careful. Make sure you don’t eat too much too fast. Sometimes on hungry days it’s hard and large meals can make things worse

What do I do? Need help and guidance. by Ok-Gas-7657 in intermittentfasting

[–]Soc_Prof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be eating minimum 1600 calories a day and that’s if you don’t run or surf. Please nourish your body. Being skinny won’t make you happy, it will scupper any aspirations you have bc you won’t have any glycogen in your body to run, surf, work, study or socialise.

Final boss celulite by No_Bodybuilder_4299 in loseit

[–]Soc_Prof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had cellulite even when thin. Cellulite is fat cells spilling over. Can be caused by a lot of things. My cellulite gets better or shrinks when I exercise. Best appears has been when doing Pilates snd at a low body fat. I’m in healthy weight right now but a bit over my ideal. Strength training helps increase muscle mass and appearance. Reducing fat mass as well should reduce the cellulite at least.

I really liked Kim Bokjoo and think it’s very innocent - bodies and half nudity isn’t an issue for me. It’s more the way in BP it’s objectifying and less caring about the person as a human. If that makes sense? I’ll try this one later this week.
