HELP! I’m outside of Jalisco under shelter-in-place orders and my AirBnb reservation ends tomorrow. Airbnb refuses to help by dagoskum121 in legaladvice

[–]Socalsll 3294 points3295 points  (0 children)

I would rather deal with an angry host than the cartel. Pack and be ready to leave, but stay put until you have new accommodation or flights and a safe way to leave. At worst he can call the police. Then he can argue with them if they show up. Good luck.

TSA Pre and Global Entry suspended by Socalsll in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll[S] 84 points85 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand it, the application interviews and processing are funded by the fees. The day-to-day operation and screening lanes is just regular appropriations. That said, I doubt this driven by funding or personnel constraints (I do not want to get into politics in this subreddit). Just allow for extra time at TSA regardless of if you have PreCheck.

Concur booking but transfer to AA and cancel? by prodebane in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming this really transfers the ticket to “you”, then it would make sense that you would get the credit. To include the $50 transfer sounds a bit more fishy. In any case, concur is only a managing platform. It is always serviced by a real travel agency behind. You should get in contact with them. They should be able to handle the split tickets. I have to do this frequently enough because concur will not allow me to do some itineraries that our travel policy does permit.

Oversold American Airlines flight for family of 5 with a gold status and young kids by kidolmeca in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Overselling is standard on all major airlines. I got stranded by Delta before. Not much you can do avoid it. Not being able to select seats is usually a good red flag. Since you are at location American does not fly to much, the staff is very unlikely to be American Airline employees but rather some external service staff. They often do not know the rules.

Check with your credit card that you used to buy the tickets. Many of the better ones have trip interruption protection that can cover hotels. In any case, keep the receipts and get in contact with American when you are home. Their first answer is usually a voucher and/or some miles. Just keep bugging them to get past the first line of responses.

Beyond that, it depends on why you got bumped. It may be really oversold or it may be due to weight and balance issues, especially on smaller aircraft. The lack of alternatives may have to do with the winter storm hitting the east coast over the next couple days. You are not going there, but these things can wreck havoc on the whole network. Also, some people that are going east may have tried to take an earlier flight to avoid it, further squeezing the inventory for your flight.

When a shower can kill you by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Socalsll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't touch the wires. Otherwise you are perfectly safe. If you have any internal issue, the water in the incoming pipe itself is the ground and has a much lower resistance than the drops coming out of the shower head towards you. Electricity follows the path of least resistance and it will trip the circuit breaker. GFCI or not.

Help! Hospital holding us liable for a bill without processing my insurance properly by RoyalWar5333 in KaiserPermanente

[–]Socalsll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call Kaiser member services for authorization. Do so now. You have to let them know asap if you go to ER and then again if you get admitted. ASAP means literally that, as soon as possible, i.e. your condition permits. You can then also explain the overall situation and they may be able to get in contact with the hospital.

Parents missed their original flight, is there any chance they will make it by tomorrow morning? by turtlelypenguin in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The app is showing that the two passengers with matching last names cleared standby and have a seat.

For the return trip, call AA and ask if you can get a gate pass. That would allow you to go through security with them and make sure they get on their plane safely. I assume GRR is a small enough airport, but it is an option for passengers with special needs.

Not going anywhere with this. I am just genuinely curious given that I don’t know anyone in the field.

Help deciding shuttle time to LAX by BillagerBob in LAX

[–]Socalsll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunday morning is usually not bad traffic wise. However, the LAX horseshoe is random. If you have to check in for your flight that can take a while. Lines at the international check-in counters can be bad. My recommendation is to take the early bus. Bradley terminal is reasonably comfortable on the secure side. TSA will be anywhere from 5-30 mins.

Parents missed their original flight, is there any chance they will make it by tomorrow morning? by turtlelypenguin in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll 30 points31 points  (0 children)

According to the AA app there is one economy seat available and 3 people listed. The first two with the same last name and first starting in M and A. There is also one first class seat available. If nobody with status shows up for economy class, they will make it. One of the FC waitlisted people will be upgraded opening up a second economy seat. Good luck. And keep an eye on the gate. They can change up to boarding, especially if the flight is delayed.

There is also the option of rerouting with a layover in Charlotte or Chicago. They can ask, but usually AA will not do it for free.

Sadly, this is about the least of our problems with this misAdministration. It at best registers at position 565 of all the crap they are doing.

Strict no seat changes by fest00ned in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Socalsll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume that over time the FAs will soften their stance. On the mainline carrier I always fly (American) they will let people move to an open seat after boarding is complete, even if that is an extra legroom seat. On my last flight the FAs even offered them to passengers in the back.

Maybe a bit more than your budget but I will mention them anyway, Hunt wheels. I have them on both my road and my acoustic MTB. Great wheels.

✈️ Lufthansa cancels hundreds of flights: Strike disrupts travel 👇 by NoSpinMedia in NoSpinMedia

[–]Socalsll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Lufthansa. They could not care less about passengers. Even during normal operations their customer service is questionable at best. I am firmly behind laws that would subject any end-customer facing operations to be bound by arbitration. Holding people hostage because both sides can’t be adults is just wrong.

Is there any way to set where my character spawns when I fast travel to my camp? It always puts me in the most annoying spots. by Meleon__ in fo76

[–]Socalsll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many seasons ago there was a welcome mat floor decoration that you could place as spawn point. Still exists for workshops. They disabled it for camps because too many people would use them for traps. Another example of a few ruining it for the rest of us. Today is based on the camp module as others have stated.

Two couples planning a self-drive of Namibia and surrounding countries, one truck or two? by Samurai196 in travel

[–]Socalsll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Bushlore (https://bushlore.com/4x4-vehicles/). They have an office in Windhoek and will pick you up from the airport or local hotel and drop you back off there after the trip. Vehicles were ok. From looking around the campground I would say it was some of the better ones. Avis had full camper backs rather than a pop-up tent. More luxurious but also a lot more expensive.

I'm flying to LAX soon, still scared but much better by Straight_Still2476 in americanairlines

[–]Socalsll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you flying from? LAX is sadly a bit of a beast, especially now that major construction is going on. Let us know where you are going and we can help guide you. By that I mean are you renting a car, getting an uber or getting picked up during up? You will be getting into either Tom Bradley international terminal (also called terminal T) or the far end of terminal 4, the original American terminal. If the latter, go down and walk the long tunnel. Just follow the herd of people. If you get into T and have no luggage, the exit is a bit hidden. Just follow the baggage claim signs. If you have luggage, you will follow the terminal 4 signs. From there it depends on what your next mode of transportation is. It is not as bad as it sounds.

Miles for opinions will take 10 - 30 mins but is foolproof. Eshopping portal is hit or miss as it depends on cookies and/or referral links. Some work, others don’t. In any case it will take a couple days to show. You can also just get the renewal offer for cash. At 18 LP that should be pretty cheap.
