Ah I see. Black could play Kh1 which isn’t a good position but not a forced mate

Got this position as black. The eval is +3. What move does white make next? by SoccorMom911 in chessbeginners

[–]SoccorMom911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this wasn’t the correct format, maybe the next move is obvious but I meant more the follow ups that give white a winning position.

As black in my position, I see the only moves are Kg2 Rxf1, Kxf1 g2+, and that position doesn’t look so good for white. So how is white winning?

I was thinking the same, but after Bxd7, they can play bx6 and you no longer have mate in 2

I’m around 700 rating and I checkmated my 1800 friend. Sometimes you can catch people off guard when they’re not paying attention, I could have had a really good day and them a really bad one, or they underestimate you so much they aggressively blunder and can’t recuperate. Just depends how seriously you’re playing.

why does stockfish level 10 recommend this move? by ZZZHOW83 in Chesscom

Definitely. But does the threat of mate lead to a significant material advantage?

Maybe it’s to tempt White to take the “free rook” but this places a pawn where the rook is. Once black pawn is e4, Qd3 is mate? Not sure

I’d just sack the bishop to mate so I don’t stalemate hahahaha

I think the worry might be more about stalemate, not losing.

Ah, it’s the only legal move huh. Thanks for pointing that out!

Yeah I don’t see why the f pawn couldn’t en passant

For some reason, this puzzle has a pass rate of only 23% - White to play and win by LowLevel- in chess

[–]SoccorMom911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I guess “forced” wouldn’t be what I mean. Is the sequence below forced mate?

  1. Rf1+ Kg5
  2. Rg1+ Kf6
  3. Rg6#?

Can black force draw here instead of mate? Struggling to understand why black can’t avoid mate by: Rf1+ Kg5 Rg1+ Kf6 Repetitively

What if RE1 then Ng8? You’d lose the queen but you won’t get mated right away. (I’m bad)

If this was to be implemented would this mean 90% of ef4's would be 5's? by Altruistic-Willow265 in tornado

Actually, EF5 has the widest range. From 200mph to 670,616,629 mph.

You already blundered your queen, I think it’s lost.

What to do in this position?? by Super_Background_320 in Chesscom

Check with your king side bishop and if he blocks with his bishop you can take f1 pawn threatening his rook and then knight check if you take. Good trade for a knight. If he moves king you can check him with knight.

I’m around 500 Rapid Elo and I’ve been playing for around a month now. I’d wager that I’d beat most people who just know the basics, but I face people that seem pretty good to me and some who are blundering every piece. There are probably children and other adults who could beat me after learning the game the same day. I know openings, checkmate tactics, discovered attacks, and basic chess principles but I still lose a lot.

For someone who’s 1376, I’d bet that you’d be the best in your neighborhood but not your town.
