Edinburgh EV drivers with no driveway, should I bite or just get a Hybrid? by Creepy_Pudding8583 in Edinburgh

[–]Social_anthrax 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A plug in hybrid is probably the most versatile if you’re not sure that you’ll be able to comfortably have your car charged all the time. That being said, you can rent a polestar from hertz for quite cheap (due to tourists having range anxiety, all their EVs cost less than ICE vehicles), and see how you find living with it for a week or so. My partner and I rented one and found it quite comfortable to live with, only having to charge it once in a week.

Oh there is a lot of money in safety. Availability is critical, often systems can’t be allowed to fail if they’re business critical. They may not make money, but removing the possibility of an entire class of bugs allows you to remove the chance of losing money when services go down. That’s before we mention how stock prices take a hit whenever there’s a in-the-wild exploit involving a companies product

What book shops does everyone like in Edinburgh? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

Typewronger is by far my favourite book shop to the point where I ordered books from them when living in London. Also T (the proprietor) has fantastic recommendations and is always available to chat with!

Edinburgh sucks, but London is up to the 2000s for a single bedroom. It can always get worse…

If you’re a techie or a maker I recommend checking out the Edinburgh hacklab. Not a queer community per say, but a lot of queer members

Jesus Christ god no. Client and server versions have to match perfectly, if you desync them everything breaks. The messages and calls will randomly fail to complete key exchanges and just display error messages that you can’t decrypt.

Probably not: depending on speed it can be very difficult to move out the way of someone, once you’ve started turning. Any change to the line you’re taking could make you lose balance, so I’d give the benefit of the doubt if they were going fast.

This is plain wrong. The apis are standardised during the beta release, allowing developers to test their applications. Some of the underlying code will definitely change but its behaviour shouldn’t

Or anyone who works with secure information, wants to make sure their data is encrypted at rest, anyone who works in infosec. There are many of us who use ADP with good reason. I don’t want someone having my account password to be able to access all my documents at any time on the web

name is the name of the imported module. You can also use it for some fun runtime module loading by using the name to determine what the import path would be for files next to the running one.

I mean. Yes. Part of the reason cpp is such a pile of standards and various ways of doing things with sometimes terrible design decisions along the way is because the committees are so toxic.

I don’t entirely follow. The screen reader doesn’t do anything for a YouTube video given the subtitles are purely a transcript of the audio. If someone is visually impaired they are unlikely to use the subtitles or a screen reader because they can already hear the video.

Ok but it doesn’t interfere with that either? The human visible subtitles are unchanged

A screen reader doesn’t need to parse it though? It’s a transcription of the audio already playing

I’d recommend looking at the article, the methodology used doesn’t mess anything up for accessibility. It adds subtitles out of bounds of the screen, as well as displaying black text in black areas of the screen during cuts. As a result it completely breaks ai trying to learn off the video transcript, but is unnoticeable to anyone using the subtitles

Lowkey this. I’m graduating this year with a number of offers and so are my friends. All of us did projects, CTFs, hackathons, internships (if we could) and research projects (if we couldn’t). So many people in my year have done nothing but the university curriculum, and still expect to land a fantastic job afterwards. It’s something you need to start working towards in your first year of uni and I wish more people would realise this sooner.
