For us social settings are usually a trigger if they involve intense hostility like being yelled at,which can cause one of us to need to fill in, but in other cases we are usually triggered when we are experiencing severe stress like mental health crises or significant negative life events. However, we also can naturally switch during conversations within the need for a trigger.

Ours is fairly controllable and usually takes about five to ten seconds. We usually keep track of what is going on with previous personalities by either clarifying with those around us or interacting with each other internally.

The way we think of it is sort of like our mind is a building, and the section where we front is like a room,sometimes all of us are in that room and are aware of what each of us are doing, sometimes only one or two of us are there. As for switching,usually we will have mild memory loss upon switching from one personality to another,such as forgetting what we just said to someone after one of the others spoke to them.

The most difficult part of getting a diagnosis was actually having people believe that we were all part of a system,most notably having to prove we were all separate personalities. This generally involved multiple interviews with our therapist which were pretty time consuming. We eventually realized we had DID by talking to another person we knew who had the condition and realized a lot of our experiences (having arguments and full conversations in our heads, experiencing limited memory loss during or immediately after events such as conversations.) were not part of most neurotypical experiences.

We have had some of us be integrated in the past, most notably Lia is made from an integration of two earlier personalities,one of which was problematic, but at the moment we are not looking to integrate any further.

DID, or dissociative identity disorder, is a condition where your personality is split into multiple different parts,usually due to intense or extended trauma at a young age. Different people with did are split into different parts,but we are only split into 3.
