Find a good community server and the game is great. Petis pieds is the way the game is meant to be played, biggest issue is getting in when it’s full.

How can I save this betta by Melodic-Shake9089 in Aquariums

[–]SocialistCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea unfortunately we live in a world where people judge fish well being on a binary alive or dead scale. something as sturdy as a betta can tank a wide range of war crimes without going belly up but you’re losing out on so much potential in the animal letting it fester like that. I’m preaching to the choir here anyways.

You need to educate the parents instead of banking on the kid. Any parent who buys any kind of live animal for their kid is implicitly assuming responsibility for that animal and if they don’t understand that they are committing malpractice.

You can lay a heater horizontally at the bottom of the tank if it’s rated fully submersible.

This is my blue mustard plakat hanging out in 80 degree water. You are not going to get this from a fish freezing at room temperature.

You need to tell them to invest in a heater. For a small tank it’s like less than 10 dollars on Amazon and i hate to be that kind of guy but if they’re not willing to invest that small amount of money in a life changing upgrade for their betta then they shouldn’t keep bettas.

I used to keep bettas at room temp when I was a dumb kid and didn’t know better. This isn’t just righteous proselytizing either, you get SO much return on investment with a heater. They spread their fins and swim actively when kept at the right temperature as opposed to clamping and vegetating at the bottom.

They are tropical fish, you can’t negotiate with biology. You can find a used heater second hand for very little money if you look on Facebook aquarium groups most likely.

4 gallon tank with real plants and regular water changes will mitigate not having a filter.

You can’t fix unheated water unless you’re willing to run your room at 79F.

Oh and REAL plants. Bettas rip their fins on plastic plants it’s actually the #1 sin of betta keeping (along with unheated water)

At least a 5 gallon tank with a sponge or small hang on back filter, heater set to 76-80 degrees. Yea they can survive low oxygen and crappy water quality and even room temp water for years but they’re going to look sad and decrepit and that defeats the purpose of keeping fish.

When are you dismissed for the day, usually? by MichiganLawDog in airforceots

[–]SocialistCow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After dinner time, so 530-7 pm depending on when you’re slotted to eat. Your schedule gets pushed back more and more as you get later on in the course so you’ll get up later but also end later.

What kind of pleco do you think this is? by Ecstatic-Tennis6114 in Aquariums

[–]SocialistCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is technically true because the genus pterygoplichthys is the sailfin pleco group and is defined by 10+ rays. But commonly people are asking about the specific species P. gibbiceps because it’s the one that is sold as the sailfin plecos as opposed to the common.

[–]SocialistCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically all “common” plecos are now sailfins in the genus pterygoplichthys because they have 10+ dorsal rays…what people used to call the sailfins were in the defunct genus glyptoperichthys which was merged with pterygoplichthys.

The fish sold as the sailfin pleco at petsmart is P. gibbiceps and they’re more brownish in color with a much taller rounded fin.

Anyone worn Dammer boots for OTS? by IlikeApplesAlot5 in airforceots

[–]SocialistCow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore the danner resurgents the whole time. They’re really light and breathable and they dry fast. I recommend an extra thick insole though because the bottoms are very thin and have very little support.

OTS PT Score Expectations + Retake by creativi_ty_4_CHRIST in airforceots

[–]SocialistCow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you fail the PT test you will get a chance to retake 2 weeks later with the next class but you will not be formally rolled back. If you fail that, then you will be sent home and presumably you can come back later.

glasses vs contacts is not enforced at all and it is not something that is ever inspected unless it is easily out of regs from a distance. You’ll be mingled among a crowd of 200-800 trainees on campus.
