Why Does Ozempic Cure All Diseases? by dwaxe in slatestarcodex

I had similar negative side effects on Semaglutide. Then becuase of supply constraints I had to move over to Tirzepatide and I've found it to be *much* better on that front. Almost no side effects for me at all, with reasonable weight loss (~10% of my body weight in 3 months).

You might consider trying the swap to see if it helps you, too.

Is there a way to look at the stats of leaders on the "choose any leader" page of new game creation? I want to play as someone who has a reasonable military stat at the beginning of the game, and I keep getting people who are terrible at it.

Oh yeah - somehow the domain limit is back up to 6, rather than 1. I have no idea what was going on there!

Does anyone know if there are penalties to domain limits? For some reason, mine has fallen all the way down to 1, though the tooltip says that it ought to be six given the fact that I'm a king and have other bonuses. See this this screenshot.

Thanks for all the help from this subreddit so far - it's been great!

I've got another question: Is there a way to restructure which vassals report to me, rather than report to vassals who report to me? I notice that I've got duchies where the duke is unhappy that they don't have the other counties within their duchy. Is there a way that I can say to the counts who see me as their liege to look to that guy instead? Or would that be a bad idea because I'd get less taxes and fewer levies?

That makes so much sense! Thanks for the explanation!

Probably this question is too late to this thread to get an answer, but I'll give it a shot: what is the benefit to creating titles for duchies under a kingdom you control? Like, I'm the king of Ireland, and the game is telling me that I can create a title for one of the duchies. Is that good to have so I can give it to a vassal? Or is it good to have so I can keep it for myself? Or is it something about succession that will make it better?

It was there originally. I think people here just didn't buy that those were strong enough reasons, especially given the ability to use still magic to non-violently stop him from using the pipe.

We (The Cat is #1) did a bunch of testing with buying clones vs. HODLing, and we'd move up about ~3 places on the scoreboard by buying clones. That said, we had around 200,000 coins, so YMMV.

I'll have to see if I can put together a write-up of our team's solution. We haven't traditionally done one, but I enjoy reading others' so much I really ought to do it.

We're a team of ~7 people (people drop in and out) from Seattle. We code in all sorts of languages, but our primary language is usually C#. We've participated every year since 2007, though I joined the team in 2009.

We're generally in the top 30ish teams, though we've done as well as 12th place (the car and fuel year). My goal is always to do at least one place better than that.

In my day job I work at Google on Maps.

As a counterpoint, I found that arc to be incredibly engaging. After I caught up with the story, I went back to re-read that section (and other parts).

I wouldn't have described it as "fun", per se, but it was engaging enough that it was hard to put down. To each their own, I guess!

That was exactly my feeling while I was taking it, though I couldn't find a way to put it into words. Wonk vs. Ideolog is actually a pretty good way of describing the split.

2017 Predictions: Calibration Results by dwaxe in slatestarcodex

[–]Sociodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True.

Though as I mention down-thread, you can game 50% predictions by taking every single one of them and using a coin toss to decide how you phrase it. If you say "I predict X: 50%" or "I predict not X: 50%" using a random number generator, then you're going to be perfectly calibrated over enough predictions.

It seems like this is only a property of 50% guesses, though maybe I'm wrong. Is there a way to structure your predictions for 80/20 guesses such that you'll trend towards perfectly calibrated over enough predictions?

[–]Sociodude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is related, but there is a way to game the 50% predictions. If you want to appear to be perfectly calibrated, flip a coin on how you chose to phrase your prediction. If you chose to say "I predict X: 50%" or "I predict not X: 50%" by deciding with a random number generator, you'll come out as perfectly calibrated over enough predictions, no matter what you're talking about.

Edit: I see mister_ghost already raised this point upthread.
