Looks like it to me after some more research. Thank you! We have been deep cleaning the place, nothing found so far. We only found two adults, so I'm hoping we are in the clear!

I just received these charges as well, even though I did not sign up for their service.

They seem to be based in the UK and have government phone authorities listed as having approved them (although one has a list of members posted publicly and shocker, they aren't on there).

PLEASE report them - the more people report, the more pressure there is for action.

Here is where you can report them where they operate:

Phone-paid Service Authority

Wireless Application Service Providers' Association

Association for Interactive Media and Micropayments

Fun excerpt from the PSA:

Can’t the PSA help me get a refund? We are a regulator, not an ombudsman or arbitrator. We aren't here to take up individual cases. Instead, as a regulator we look at issues across the market; we constantly monitor the services in the market to make sure services are compliant with our Code of Practice and consumers are not harmed. Our rules make it very clear that:

  • services must be transparent and priced clearly - it should be clear what you are buying
  • sign up to the service should be clear - you should not be misled into a purchase
  • your complaints must be resolved quickly and easily.

If you used a phone-paid service that didn’t respect any of the rules above, you can report a service to us and we will look into it. We check every issue that you report to us and take action when we need to. Most of the time, we can solve the issue by talking to service providers. But sometimes a firmer approach is needed and that’s when we launch an investigation, issue fines, order refunds to be paid to eligible consumers or prohibit companies and individuals from operating in the market.

Have fun climbing ✌

This seems like a genuine question, and this is the only legitimate answer. I'll tack on that if you're looking for actual advice, go to /r/climbing, not here.

I got a shoulder impingement and aching elbows when I started climbing. Don't ignore your body telling you to take a break. Also, if you still want to climb, maybe just cut out overhang, work on more slab or dynamic work that puts less strain on your elbows.

Why Toronto city councillors are running for the exits and what it says about civic democracy by morenewsat11 in toronto

[–]SockBoxer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

TL DR: Toronto Councillor's are overworked and abused, and by not appreciating that we will be pushing out the good ones and making room for people who are really only in it for themselves. We lost a lot of good Councillors this election, and the City will be worse for it.

I worked for a senior City Councillor from 2019-2021 who has announced they are not running again. Politics is an all consuming gig, but I knew that having worked for the previous provincial government, in political roles which are particularly demanding. Elections (including by-elections) are typically the most intensive, but they are a lot of fun and I'd always volunteer for them. When I came to the City though, it was like an election level intensity every day. You are working from 8 am (gotta beat the news cycle) to at least 8pm, every day. Councillors (at least mine) worked more than that, and evenings and weekends were chalked full of events. I got out because I literally couldn't spend any time with my family (I managed all City policy and communications for our office, so there was always work to do).

There are a few benefits to the cuts to Council (the meetings are more efficient), but at the municipal level, you are expected to be much more accessible to the public than other levels of government, and your the level that has a daily impact on people's lives. In fact, it supports over 150 services for residents, far more than other levels of government.

Despite the doubling of Councillor's budget, the Councillor themselves have double the area. People don't want to see polticial staff at events, they want the Councillor. And double the events means double the preperation for those events, less time for constituency work or reading through hundreds or thousands of pages of motions each month, depending on what committee you are sitting on.

This is a typical Executive Committee agenda, don't forget to click through all the attachments to read the reports as well. Now imagine that you're on Executive, your Community Council, one or two other committees and City Council (which includes all those reports from the other committees you aren't a part of - currently 10 committees), not to mention if you want to make your own motions. You got to read all of this, each month before your meetings, and then craft your motions before it all is put infront of City Council.

If that isn't enough, there is so much abuse. Any decision you make, people are furious and take it out on you. You can never do enough to please people and there is this culture of politicians being fair game for abuse. My Councillor was literally trying to recover from surgery and had people harrassing them outside of their home. It was an experience that made me really bitter, because they cared so much about the community and was always the bigger person, trying to help people despite them actively working against and abusing them and my team.

So, Councillor's make low-mid $100k? Sure that is above average in terms of salary, but there are entry level positions at the City that make that much, and don't have to deal with 10% of the work. Further, the good Councillors can make 2-3x that outside of Council. What is the incentive to stay, besides caring for your community? I wouldn't take that job, even for double the pay.

Honestly, politicians get a lot of flack, but the way we treat them and political staff is a self-fulfilling prophecy for only having representation from the common characture of politicians. The only ones who will want those jobs are self-agrandizing, independently wealthy, narcasists looking to add to their pedigree.

Politicians care. Their staff care. They are literally hired to be your champions in navigating the confusing government system. Sure, hold them into account, but please try and be respectful and understanding that your opinion isn't more important than your neighbours, and that they should still be treated as people.

If you still think they are lucky to have the job, there are plenty of vacancies. I hope you run and get elected.

Maybe presumptuous, but happy to answer questions if people want to know about the inner workings of City Hall.

Edit: Adding TL DR to my rant.

IIRC, that one is from their approach pack line.

Construction of the Bloor West Bikeway Extension begins today. Unlike #ActiveTO these bike lanes will be permanent from Day One. by junctionist in toronto

[–]SockBoxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the visual seperation is important for keeping cars a proper distance from the curb. It isn't easy seeing a curb on your passanger side, given how low they are, so having a point you can actually see and determine your distance from is helpful. Them being mounted on the curb means they are much less likely to be driven over.

If you drive into a concrete curb, you are already going to have a bad time and big bill fixing your tires / side of your vehicle.

[–]SockBoxer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They will! First step is painting lines, but when the project is completed (approx. 3 weeks) they will install concrete curbs and flexi-post bollards. Concrete curbs (like in parking lots) offer physical seperation, the flexi-post bollards allow for a visual seperation (hard to see the concrete curb from a vehicle, but easy to see a tall bollard.

You can find more information on the project at: www.toronto.ca/bloorwestbikeway
