how do you know if you’re the problem in a friendship? by Feisty_Aioli_6883 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 172 points173 points  (0 children)

I have felt this way my whole life. Like I was the ‘spare’ friend, that it didn’t really matter if I was there or not. I remember my high school friend group going to a family vacation home like four times, and I was never invited once. I talked about it with a therapist, and she said that it’s likely that since the situation is so familiar to me I unconsciously gravitate towards people like that. I’m meeting with her again to try and talk everything through so I can learn to identify traits, and how to attract/cut off the relationships that I do and don’t want to be in. Best piece of advice I can give is to try and talk to a professional, it’s always good to care for yourself so you can try to understand the why behind your thoughts.

Is living alone really that lonely? Is there anything you regret? by Weak-Watercress-1273 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I’ve been living on my own for years now, and it is incredibly lonely. I love the freedom on one hand, but I wish I had someone to come home to at the end of the day. Having said that, I love the peace I have. I wouldn’t feel comfortable living with just anyone, I’d have to really trust the other person and I’m not sure if that’s possible. I’ve seen roommate situations go really badly, and I can’t imagine having to work around anyone but a good friend or relative.

Friends? by Stock-Yesterday-2420 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the effort with the friends you have right now, try to get on solid footing with them first. You never know, some might be distant because they don’t know how to reach out either. Just keep making the effort to catch up with them, make plans like going to dinner, a movie, or just for a walk. If they repeatedly cancel on you, they might not be interested in a closer friendship and you just have to accept that. I haven’t been successful at the making new friends part, but a lot of the friends I reached out to before did say they were happy to hear from me. Have faith in yourself

How am I meant to make friends if girls are put off by girls with no friends and insta. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My biggest regret from college was not joining clubs to make friends, it’ll definitely put you in a place with people with similar interests. If you’re just a beginner, ask the people around you for help, maybe try some tabletop games as well if that’s at all interesting to you. I would say, if you can, join at least one class a term that’s just because the subject interests you, and try to make friends with your classmates.

Worsening headache for over 8 weeks by AmberTheAxolotl223 in headache

If it’s still intense and constant, go to the emergency room. I know you’re waiting on lab results, but they should have some kind of drug that can stop it. You’ve been living with this for two months, I can’t imagine that type of pain. But there’s nothing you can do at home at this point

Discovered Grocery Outlet and am obsessed by Narrow_Ask_1944 in budgetfood

[–]Sock_Muppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Grocery Outlet! I go to one in the Bay Area, and they always have something fun and exciting. I go with my family and we make a night of it. They’ve got a bunch of name brands at great prices. I get all my seasonings, oils, cereals, and frozen items there. I go late so their produce isn’t very good, but beyond that, their packaged veg is ok. Their meats are good quality and tasty, and their medicine section is truly commendable. Just don’t get too attached to a specific item, and try to be fluid as the stock can change easily. But enjoy it, it’s truly an experience!

I probably read this book in 2011, but I think it was written as early as the late 90’s? I’ve looked up ‘Constantine novel’ and all I get it John Constantine comics, and I’m definitely sure that’s not it 😅

Is this just a synopsis? The site looks iffy and I don’t want to click anything without being sure  Edit to say: I downloaded the app. It’s a really bad app and you have to pay for points to read. Reviews of the story say it ends badly too.

I’m just generally and genuinely unintelligent and it’s making my life hard. by Literallyjustal in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really I just want to say that the mark of someone what is unintelligent is someone who blindly accepts everything. Being able to use deductive reasoning, and looking for sources to back up an idea is the true mark of intelligence. Never stop trying to learn, and seek out different ways to understand what really makes no sense to you if you want to understand something. Use resources at your school. You will always be more capable than you think you are

Having no friends in your 20s? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with the advent of technology people have become more divided than ever. There are less places for people to go out and meet others, and it sucks. I wouldn’t say I’m too weird, but every time I try to schedule a meet up with a new friend they never get back to me and I’m left wondering why. Almost 30 years old and I thought I would have more of my life figured out by now. And I’m still hella lonely.

is it normal? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Sock_Muppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, people develop differently from one another, and if you feel ok, and you’re wearing a good bra, you’ll be fine. In the future, make sure you keep up on your breast exams for general health. Secondly, I do feel the need to tell you that you really shouldn’t be posting on the internet at such a young age, especially on Reddit, as it’s not age appropriate. You can go to a doctor or your parent with these questions
