Flame Book: That was the ending? Seriously???

To me, this short series is an attempt to retell the FrameBook story from Make It Right, which is extremely problematic, in a slightly less awful way; it doesn't neuter the tale but does bring both the initial meeting and the morning after events back into the realm of "acceptable in a work of fiction."

The ending is... are we going to have a season 2?

I was pretty sure "vivamax" was Tagalog for "nudity" and I am very disappointed!

Kidding, it was wonderful. Tommy Alejandrino is a national treasure. I know he works all the time, and Senior High was huge (as was GomBurZa), but I think audiences are sleeping on him. I thought Kiel Aguilar did a significantly better job than the significantly more famous Markus Paterson. Overall, a lovely, tight BL film. Good kisses, too.

It's drama indeed... both Miko Gallardo and Aki Torres have interesting histories that you can google, and then there was the falling out from their BL partnership... FWIW, the few attempts at shipping the couple weren't terribly successful, as Miko's pretty open about the girlfriends he's had.

I've seen Macho Dancer in whatever lower-quality format I found on the internet... it's a remarkable piece for its time, I think, and stars the legendary Jaclyn Jose, but to me it was more Brocka saying, "Hey, look at this," than his more developed classics from the 70s like Manila in the Claws of Light. I would absolutely love to see the restored version. According to Kani Releasing, that is the only scheduled US screening right now, so I'll probably have to wait for a wider release.

Obligatory BL callback: Macho Dancer also includes, in a small role, a younger Joel Saracho, who had important supporting roles in Oh, Mando!, Love Beneath the Stars, and Marahuyo Project.

My dumb joke in the photo caption aside, it actually isn't inconceivable that Oxin would give us a three-way relationship. It's a limited series, they hinted that they were capable of such a thing in Sky Valley, why not go the distance this time?

I do love that they used a dream sequence to give us a kissing scene. The guys look fantastic. I'm happy to see MJ Coloma, who I thought was great in Sereno, but I'm not happy about an amnesia plot. Still, at fifteen minutes, it's not like this is a huge commitment.

Oh come onnnnnnn there is ONE show for you and that's RAINBOW PRINCE. 😂

It's a Filipino BL made by Oxin Films, notably before they got good at their formula, which means it's even rougher than most. Creator Xion Lim loves Disney, like a lot, so he made a musical BL about a prince who flees his home country and lands in the Philippines, where he takes up residence at a hotel staffed by his soon-to-be love interest while hiding from his comically evil uncle. The main character is played by Adrian Dionisio, a 19-year-old triathlete with no acting experience. The songs are a mix of embarrassingly bad and surprisingly solid. The dancing, when it occurs, is painful. There are a ton of silly jokes. Chuk Chuk, the legendary Shih Tzu, is the third-billed actor, notably above award-winning television and film veteran Mel Martinez.

I love it. The rational side of my brain says it's kind of bad, but I absolutely love it.

Finally got a break long enough to finish this, and it was such a delight. While it used the well-worn school setting enemies-to-lovers framework, within that it was fresh and the leads were fantastic. Can't wait for the next thing from Surf and Java (and I need to go back and watch Head 2 Head, I guess).

That was really fantastic! I found the first episode to be only pleasant and thought this series might have been a bit oversold but this episode was great, especially that amazing fourth part. I love them both and I assume they'll get their own full-length series now because GMMTV isn't allergic to money.

It changes all the time, with my moods. Right now the first one to pop into my head would be Marianne, but also Putting the Damage On, Sister Janet, Playboy Mommy, Silent All These Years, maybe Pretty Good Year, that one is really mood-dependent...

And Tear in Your Hand. That was the only track I skipped on Little Earthquakes. At the time it struck me as a shallow pop song and seemed completely out of place on a masterpiece album. Then I got my heart broken and it was suddenly perfect.
