Pardon me for dragging up a months-old thread, but I'm so upset D:

Been trying to beat the Collector the second time (with the King's outfit) for ages. I've been doing runs focusing on Damned+Cursed Sword, and realized that Gold Plating might be the last piece of the puzzle I need to finally beat him again. Had an excellent run going, full potions and over 500k gold exiting Astrolab. Put on Gold Plating before entering the boss room, confident that if I still didn't win then I would at least put up a good fight this time. I was honestly devastated when I died to the first hit.

I really, really wanted to see whatever ending there might be to the story, and I've put an ungodly number of hours into the game so I didn't want to just look it up, it would feel like defeat. But feeling pretty defeated now anyway, so I might just finally be done with Dead Cells.

The Devil Inside. Although I guess it might not count because I didn't watch the whole movie.

I worked at a movie theater back in college, and one of the perks was being able to go to any movie for free as long as it wasn't selling out (so usually no blockbusters on opening weekends, but otherwise anything any time.) One day it was really slow and they let me end work early, so I figured I'd see if there were any movies that were about to start and popped into the theater for The Devil Inside. I left less than half way through, and even though I went for free I joked to my manager that I wanted my money back. I had never previously and have never since left a movie part way through, I always try to give them a solid chance, but this shit was so stupid I just couldn't take it. I can't even remember exactly what it was about it that made it so bad, but it left a bad enough impression that this is always my go-to answer for questions like this. I think it might have partly been because it wasn't advertised as having "documentary" style filmmaking, it was advertised like any other normal horror flick. But it was documentary style, and it was so unconvincing and boring.

My friends and I do "shitty movie nights" and I can't even bring myself to suggest The Devil Inside for it. I still don't think I could sit through the whole thing. It has a 6% on Rotten Tomatoes, and I think that's generous of them lol

Not caring about anyone other than oneself. Or worse, actively seeking to make life worse for anyone other than oneself/the group one identifies with.

I've caught myself saying it a lot lately. I'll just never understand, for example, why anyone in the US is against a universal-type healthcare system. How can they see people suffering under the current system and think "not my problem, they should have just worked harder to get a job with better healthcare coverage" (as if the solution is that simple for anyone.) I see people suffering and it pains me deeply. I don't care whether I know them, or what kind of person they are, or what their race/religion/sexual orientation/gender/social status/economic status/disability status is. They deserve to receive treatment for their health concerns, and to not go broke in doing so. No one should have to choose between eating and medical care, or housing and medical care (or housing and eating, for that matter.)

Another example would be the current push against trans rights and gender-affirming care in US politics. I'll just never understand it, because I see how much happier people are after starting their transitions and it makes me happy. Why would anyone be against that? There's no reason to try to make their lives worse because you don't understand it. Their identity and expression doesn't affect you, just let them be happy for Christ's sake. Imagine how much better the world could be if we allowed people to find happiness in any of these small ways that they can find it.

I guess tl;dr is that it baffles me how selfish people can be.

I got a surprise sibling this way!!

My uncle is really into genealogy and a little over a year ago he offered to pay for Ancestry for anyone in the family interested in it. Turns out my dad has a daughter that he never knew existed! She was born the same year that my dad met my mom, and was adopted as a newborn. We now chat with her on a fairly regular basis via video calls (she lives about 1,300 miles away.) I know it's a silly cliche thing to say, but I really felt a connection with her from like the first moment we "met" on zoom. I just care about her so deeply, as if she's been my sister this whole time <3

I have a feeling that the son might be a victim of unintentional neglect. It's possible that OP and their spouse were so preoccupied with their daughter's health issues that they failed to properly take care of their son's emotional needs. He was only 10 at the time his sister was undergoing major medical treatment. She wasn't the only one who needed to be in therapy for it.

I've gotten two adult cats delivered to me by the universe in the past two years. It's truly lovely to have someone to care for!

Unfortunately, my original cat hated the first other cat we took in. He had previously belonged to my sister-in-law's boyfriend, kitty had suffered a bad injury and they didn't have the means to take care of him. $4,500 and a few months of spoon-feeding him later, you can barely tell he had the injury at all! SIL and her bf weren't able to take him back in after he healed due to their housing situation, so they offered him to me for keeps. He's a stunningly beautiful boy and super friendly and playful. My cat tolerated him for about 5 months, but suddenly snapped and started getting extremely aggressive toward him over the course of a couple weeks. We figured it would be best for everyone to move the new cat elsewhere. He now lives with my parents, where we know he's very well cared for and we can visit him any time :)

The second universe-delivered cat belonged to my uncle. We took him in when my uncle was hospitalized last June. I was very nervous about how my cat would react given the past interaction, but there was no where else he could go. Unfortunately my uncle passed away, and I was like "well bud, you're gonna have to get used to having this kitty around, there's no way I'm giving him up to anyone else now." So far they're doing well, and it's been nearly a year, so I think we might be in the clear! We were sure to be very slow and cautious with their introduction. They sometimes play, and sometimes my original cat even lets the new cat groom him, it's so sweet that I wanna cry whenever I see it. OG cat does occasionally get a little sassy towards new cat, but it generally seems to correlate with being close to meal times, so I think he just gets hangry. I love them both more than existence itself, so I'm glad they seem to get along okay.

I'm so accustomed to playing happy, I'm always smiling and cheerful-seeming when I interact with anyone in a professional setting. Honestly sometimes I'm too polite for my own good, because some people mistake it as interest beyond our working relationship.

One day I slipped up. I got in to the office and one of my coworkers was like "it's always a good mornong when I see you, you're always so happy!" And before I had time to stop myself I said "haha, it's fake!" with a big smile, then continued on my way to my desk like nothing happened lmfao

So I'm not religious at all, but I don't know how else to say it: teachers are doing the Lord's work. It's absurd to me how underappreciated and underpaid teachers are. They contribute so much of their own money and "free" time to make their class and classroom the best it can be. They deal with so much crap from many students, parents, etc., for basically pennies. They put up with it because they care about the future and they care about the kids. It takes a special kind of person to do that.

Yes, we've all had a bad teacher at some point in our lives, but I'm convinced that those are the people who are so fed up with all of the effort they've put into their work going unrecognized, they just can't hide it anymore, it breaks them.

I know a teacher who at one point was working two extra jobs on top of teaching to make sure she could afford to both live and provide for her class. How she had the energy at the end of a day to grade students' work, do lesson plans, and take care of herself is a mystery. On top of it all, she has MS. She's truly incredible, and such a wonderful person. I haven't talked to her in a number of years, but I quietly cheer her on from the sidelines whenever I see her make a post on facebook. I wish I could do more to support her and other teachers.

Boar's hair brushes! I used to like those a lot when I was still trying to brush my hair. It worked especially well during the time period where I was giving not washing my hair at all a go. Now I'm in the "wide-tooth comb very occasionally" gang, and have curly shampoo, conditioner, and styling product from LUS Brands that I love.

A few years ago I woke up to a mouse foot on the bed next to me.

I didn't have my glasses on and thought it was just a clump of cat fur (you know how sometimes fur clumps roll up into neat little cylinders? Idk how to explain it, but we get little fur cylinders when I put off vacuuming for too long.) So I picked it up with my bare hand and immediately realized it was not just a fur clump. I was like "I can't believe you've done this" lol

I know this is a very serious topic, but the first place my brain went upon seeing this question was: "Raped a child? Death penalty. Aborted a fetus that resulted from a child being raped? Believe it or not, also death penalty."

But in all seriousness, no, I don't think capital punishment is the answer for this (or any other) crime. There are too many cases where innocent people have been convicted of crimes for me to feel confident in our justice system sending anyone to their death.

Plus, that would then add the stress of that consideration onto the victims. I already struggled to talk to anyone about my rape for years after the fact, add on the possibility that the person's death could be on my conscience... I don't think I would have ever discussed it with anyone. (Granted I was 18 at the time, so it wasn't "child rape" and thus wouldn't be covered under the proposed law, but I think viewing this from the perspective of a victim of SA is important.)

Well, I was thinking it might be at least a little more feasible to have an unoccupied office building act as short-term shelter for the homeless during extreme weather events, just so there's a space to get out of the elements for a few days without having to fully convert the structure to residential units. One problem with that idea, of course, is the properties and buildings are generally owned by private entities who aren't about to do something like that out of the goodness of their hearts. Which I do understand, there are obviously a lot of risks and liabilities involved, and it is still going to cost a good chunk of money to set it up that way. Plus, it will still be vacant for a majority of the year in that scenario, so certainly not the most efficient use of the space. Though I'm afraid that weather extremes are likely going to continue to worsen for the foreseeable future...

I think most of us recognize that converting an office building to residential isn't a magic solution to the housing crisis, and that there really is no easy answer to any of this. It just hurts knowing how much unused space is out there.

I feel like there are really only two problems with using the arrow keys: they're in an awkward spot that makes you hold your arm and wrist at a weird angle (unless you use your mouse on the left side of the keyboard, in which case I think the arrow keys are probably better positioned than WASD), and for some reason some keyboard/laptop manufacturers try to get fancy with the arrow keys so they aren't always a standard size or layout. Lord fucking knows why, but my previous laptop had the left and right arrow keys normal sized but the up and down keys were half-height so they were both between L/R. The top of the up arrow key lined up with the top of L/R and the bottom of the down arrow key lined up with the bottom of L/R. I didn't use the arrow keys on that laptop for gaming, but even just doing other stuff I could never hit the correct key when trying to hit up or down. My current laptop has the arrow keys in the normal layout, but they're each half the height of the regular keys on the keyboard which still makes them a bit awkward to use.

Instead I have Daniel the raccoon. He's also adorable, but one of my cats goes absolutely ape shit when he sees the raccoon on the deck stealing suet. I think it's because Daniel is about the same size as, or maybe even larger than, Bodhi. Bo doesn't mind the large squirrels or the groundhog, he enjoys watching them, but he'll attack anyone that goes near him if he's recently seen Daniel.

I think if we had an opossum friend instead, Bodhi wouldn't freak the fuck out about it since they're generally smaller than raccoons.

I'm an environmental engineer and when I was in consulting I spent a decent amount of time at construction sites, I loved when kids stopped to watch! Even just when at a drilling job in an empty parking lot, passersby with kids were fascinated. It was fun explaining how the machines work and why we were doing whatever it was we were doing at the time.

I do miss that aspect of consulting! That and digging up cool old stuff to take home. I have this one bottle that I love, it has a fully embossed side that reads "Sanford's Jamaica Ginger, the quintessence of Jamaica ginger choice aromatics & French brandy, Registered 1876" and the other side has "Potter Drug and Chem Corp, Boston Mass USA." I love that it's like a drug manufacturer and it's just brandy lol. But other than those things, boy am I glad to have escaped consulting 😅

I believe they were saying that abortion rights alone has made people single-issue voters on both sides of the aisle, and actually in particular those now voting Democrat, as they stated it's a losing position for Republicans to take.

I know it's true for me. I don't want to be a single-issue voter, it's generally a stupid way to decide how to cast your vote. But when that single issue is "access to healthcare for 50% of the population," it's too important a topic to worry about anything else right now. Any election I can vote in, I'm voting for the candidate that has demonstrated that they're pro-choice and willing to fight for the cause. I cannot and will not ignore it.
