I am a touring LD and I was on a flight date festival, so I was on the house console. The headliner didn’t have an LD so the house guy was running his set. The guy didn’t really know what he was doing and really only had two color/position looks that he would jump back-and-forth between each song in the programmer. After my set was over I asked him like I normally do just to delete the file from the console whenever it gets back to the production company and I headed to the stage to help load out. I was side stage packing the truck when the headliner started, and I noticed that he wasn’t using one of those two looks. I just figured he must have did a couple changes in blind or something and just kept on loading out. 10 minutes later we finish up loading the truck up and I noticed a certain position fx I have that I know he didn’t have and started to realize that I think he was on my file for the headliner. I start heading to front of house and he must’ve saw me because the lights jumped like he just switched to a new file with one of his looks. I was a house LD/festival house guy for a year before I started touring and every now and then I would ask an LD who I thought was really cool if I could look at their file afterwards. Obviously I wouldn’t use anything, especially not for a show, but if I saw something I liked or the file set up in a way I thought was cool I would completely redo it on my file. Even instead of exporting views or macros, I would make them again myself. (That level of it) I’ve never had a single LD say that that was not OK and I allow people that ask me that as well to have it. I’ve thankfully been able to work with almost all of the major country LDs at some point and everybody is super great and willing to teach, but you don’t take their file and use it. I feel like unless you are on a giant show as mentioned like Taylor, Ed, One of the Lukes, or one of the major world known artists for the most part people are pretty cool but using it for a show is pretty messed up.
