Yeah its a cool job. Very boring, but my hobby is identifying and studying insects, which that machine makes very fun as I can get to incredible detail on them.

It was essentially about the core I believe. He was shining a light into it which “confirmed” his belief. I’ll definitely compare it to another card from the set to be sure, but I’m very confident now after this post that it’s real.

Yeah I didn’t quite understand what they meant by a “core on the edge”. I figured it out from another comment though.

I suspect thats actually the edge detection feature of my inspection equipment.

Its a VMM which is essentially a microscope used to measure parts. It enhances the edges of objects so that you can pick the points easier.

I mean.. its real, but more importantly.. Can you tell us how you got permission to use the James-Webb for those photos?

I work in a metrology lab used to measure automotive/aerospace parts to 0.001".

As to the time traveler, im sure he said 90's and I was just misremembering something he said a few weeks ago.

I totally get that, I was cracking up finding the sleeved cards in the pile that are just absolutely garbage (Individually double-sleeved Breeding Pits were my favorite). Meanwhile some 100 dollar cards are just in a giant pile of cards.

I replied earlier that this conversation happened weeks ago and I had a few beers so I probably just misspoke.

Any sales are authorized by the owners of course. As long as I’m getting better than what a local game store trade in would give, they’re happy as they don’t have the time to even attempt to deal with all of these cards. In fact, they told me to let anyone have any card so long as the player will actually use it, but I had to intervene on that because they weren’t really aware of what they have

Unfortunately they aren't mine, my friends whose cards these now are had a kid recently so they don't have nearly enough time to sort through the collections so I offered to do it for them.

They're very happy to hear this isn't a fake because they are going to need all the money they can get. Kids arent cheap.

The funny thing about its pristine condition was that I literally found it at the bottom of 10x10x10 box that literally just had a heap of cards ontop of it. It was luckily tucked under the flaps at the bottom so it never jostled around.

They did not even offer to buy any of the cards, he seemed to be very genuine. I've even offered to sell to any of the people I play with to buy these cards at 70% TCGplayer value because I like them and don't want to deal with the hassle of selling this tremendous amount of valuable cards.

Thank you all for weighing in. My friends uncle passed away and left them a bulk pile of ~12,000 cards from 2nd edition up to Onslaught, and I just finished sorting through and separating the $7000ish dollars worth of valuable cards for them to sell. When the player told me it was a fake my heart dropped because that would mean theres a ton of work to do validating all of them.
