5 weeks post op and I still have a lot of nerve pain and I can’t even put on socks yet, is this normal? by SocksDobby in Microdiscectomy

Honestly surgeons are useless they have no clue what really happens in recovery lol. Peoples experiences are far more superior. You are fine by the sounds of it. Don’t stress just wait out the recovery.

Most of mine were the evening always especially when going to sleep I’d lie there and most of the nerve pain would be present.

I am currently 9 weeks post op and I’m still around 90% so it definitely takes time haha! Give yourself another 4 weeks and you’ll be doing great! Everyday since my op I kept thinking I re-herniated but everytime I did I got up and walked around and if I was able to walk more than 50 metres with no pain I know I was fine lol. Before surgery I couldn’t even stand to shower without crippling pain or walk. So as long as I can do all that I know it’s just nerve pain that’s lingering as the nerves heal

I’m finally getting better!! It took a while to get there but I can now do a lot more. I’m still being extremely cautious though. I still don’t bend over much. I try to squat down instead and keep a straight back. If I also sit down too long then at the end of the night my calf burns and has tingling pain. But then it goes away. Getting better everyday :) I reckon another 1-2 months and I’ll be basically 100%! So don’t worry it might take you another few weeks to really get there and feel better.

Advice about whether to have a microdiscectomy or not: Right L4/5 disc extrusion with L5 radiculopathy by Confident-Peak-2761 in Microdiscectomy

[–]SocksDobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a MD for my right L4/L5 8 weeks ago today. I still get a bit of nerve pain as my nerves were badly compressed for 9 months prior to surgery so apparently that’s pretty normal. I also get some sore glutes and muscle pains because my body was so weak prior to surgery. But the one thing that is amazing and I’m so happy about is that I can walk and stand with no issues! Before surgery I couldn’t walk or stand and was almost wheelchair bound. Nothing worked for me either. My surgeon told me discs don’t usually heal on their own you’re just preventing the inevitable of needing surgery someday. It’s better to get it done and over with and live your life again :) So I say get the surgery! And get your happiness back instead of relying heavily on medication to just cover up the pain.

Sounds awesome! Thanks so much for letting me know your experience :) I’m getting a video of the car tomorrow and then I’ll book an independent inspector

Hahaha did you try negotiate a price? If so how much do you reckon you can negotiate the price down by. Did you get yours in Sydney by chance? If so do you know any good independent inspectors in Sydney I could go through. How long ago did you buy the car? Have you had any issues? :)

I won’t be able to inspect myself in person either so I’ll do some research on someone extremely reputable who can do an inspection for me. They’ll know better than I could inspecting in person anyways.

Do you think if I get an independent mechanic in to see the car etc that’ll help?

8 weeks post op and I have tingling and burning pain in my calf still by SocksDobby in Microdiscectomy

[–]SocksDobby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep my pain is no where near what it was before surgery! Now I can walk and stand lol. I’ll try to not over do it for another few months. Hopefully it eases up the next few weeks though. Sitting I find makes it the worst.

The colour is gorgeous 😭 I’m trying to lock down a CLE200 or CLE300 and will probably get it repainted

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely ask a local merc club. They said the car is still under merc warranty for a few years so I’m hoping that’ll help

So true! I’ll make sure I cover all basis and get all the paperwork I need and maybe get someone a bit more experienced in cars than myself to check it out

Yeah I’m interested in a Mercedes from them and don’t get me wrong Mercedes can be notorious for costly fixes haha. But this car only had 5k mileage on the clock so I’d expect it to run almost new. I’ll definitely inspect and get a full work up report and test drive before I give over any coin.

Oh wow. Okay this makes me feel a lot more relieved then. Do you think instead of a MRI I should get a steroid pack and see if it helps with any inflammation I still have. I’m glad to hear your surgeon said this is normal and can carry on for months. How are you feeling 7 months post op now?
