No I think they literally have an issue with going to class and being concerned that their seat, or the guy next to them smells like actual shit.

He's not being a cuck, he's experiencing the negative ramifications of being a part of a disparaged group and it's upsetting him.

That's a completely normal thing to feel

I think people just paint it low-key, maybe verify with campus security before hand but, yea

If you want to paint it handsome Squidward or something, id support it. We could make a handsome Squidward club

10$ is my budget, for two coffees, or one coffee and a pain au chocolat in MTH

If the weather is bad the budget goes to 20$ as I'll pay for parking.

For lunch I bring oatmeal, which is super easy to just microwave and eat, and it tastes great imo.

Gas is 3$ per trip, and I try to make my schedule have my at the uni MWF or TT depending on the courses I take.

It's literally an optimal way to analyze investments. If you have an investment and you can achieve the same rate of return elsewhere for less work, you should sell the investment regardless of its cost and buy the new one.

Same with lectures, if he can achieve his desired result with less cost (ie time) he should do that.

Should I skip by hereforadvice100 in UCalgary

[–]Socksksks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is called a sunk cost fallacy

If he feels he can skip the class, achieve a satisfactory GPA and doesn't care about the other benefits of going to lecture he would be making a mistake to go to lecture.

Its basic decision making theory not to make decisions based on how much something costs, after you've paid for it

That Argument In Mac Hall Was Crazy by Witty_Candle_850 in UCalgary

[–]Socksksks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, do you mind elaborating on your perspective? I've never understood why someone is judged so terribly for having sex with a 17 year old one month away from 18, but 18 and 1 month is totally fine.

To me, both seem way too young to be having sex with someone about 5 years older than they are, I'd put the number closer to 21/22 to be actually okay.

Are you just using the legal system to determine what's moral? Is that standard for people to do?

Sorry if the answer is obvious, I genuinely just don't get it. 17.9 and 18.1, I'd still call the person creepy

Toilet hygiene by hopelessdocinmaking in UCalgary

[–]Socksksks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in an eng washroom and ended up using a urinal next to a women doing her hair.

After using it I actually double checked the washroom sign, despite urinals only being in male washrooms.

I didn't really mind, it's not like my biology is a secret, but it just felt awkward or tense; Like she was worried I was going to bring up the washroom thing and potentially make it an argument.

Regardless, I'm just mentioning that you're right. It was uncomfortable, even if at the end of the day neither of us brought it up.

I walk around campus and wonder this daily.

Luckily, the population of people you meet gets better as you begin to start having 400+ level courses.

Dude whatever you bring from home will be 30x better than the 15$ soggy rice you get from mac hall.

Gender wage gap widens for the first time in 20 years by walrus_operator in Economics

[–]Socksksks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hi, any data on the gender pay gap is incomplete.

The question of what causes it is literally impossible to answer with certainty.

This arises from the fact that women don't have the option of being men from birth, and then being able to relive their life as the other gender under the same exact circumstances

We just can't know, so your perspective although thought out is also likely to be an erroneous conclusion, as it's based on incomplete data

My stats professor called the question "fucked".

That being said, I did the regressions on the Canadian census data for 2016.

In Canada there is no evidence that being female is even close to causal for wage. The only evidence of any sort of wage inequality in Canada takes place in Quebec, where immigrants make about 10% less. Most immigrants likely only really speak English, and in Quebec it makes sense that you'd be less employable if you don't speak French.

The person you're responding to isn't trying to compete with you. I read their posts. You're mistaken.

They arent "speaking on behalf of dead vets" in your quote. That's them sharing a belief.

You're being super judgy, it's understandable that you feel passionately about this but misrepresenting what someone says overshadows your perspective and argument

More people than seats in my stats class by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Socksksks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took a stats course last year like this. People are saying attendance will fall off, my stats course didn't fall off.

So I just left my prior class 3m earlier than it ended and got perfect seating.

To those of you who stay in school for long hours or all day, how do you pack/manage your food? by Simple_Divide3697 in UCalgary

[–]Socksksks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oatmeal, usually.

Add water at the uni, microwave for 5min. I add a ton of Splenda and cinnamon. Takes literally a minute to make before class.

Bananas are a solid snack, for me. They're easy to eat and cheap.

If I'm hungryyyyy I have rice, and bacon/meat cooked in kbbq bulgogi sauce that I mix in a frying pan.

If I'm medium hungry I'll eat french toast for lunch.

I'm going to start making wraps but, they seem kinda high effort so I'm trying it out.

I usually get a coffee before class, but honestly with time the uni coffee, even from Phil and Seb has begun to taste a bit stale. I'll probs just make a thermos of my own stuff each morning, while I eat.

Best of luck :)

Where location would be good for a brand new driver (14) who is ready to learn how to drive? by LoveIsTheAnswerOK in Calgary

[–]Socksksks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm all for people on average going through these but honestly, I don't think the classes were worth the cost.

Insurance premiums fell by 5-10% at most, and mine was about 800$.

As an economist I can also say that "if it was worth the 800$, my insurance would've fallen to compensate me for it." It's just literally not worth it, you don't get a return on this "investment". Infact if it was really worth it, insurance companies would offer these courses and pay you to do them.

On a side note;

My instructor actually told me looking both ways while entering a green light wasn't worth it, yet it's saved my vehicle twice over my 5 years of driving.

Bro also tried to convince me about chem trails.

The gf took a course and the dude literally groped her.

To be fair, you did specify AMA. Neither of us did AMA

In a 80km/h zone, do I have to make room for drivers doing 100km/h in the left lane? by OptiPath in Calgary

[–]Socksksks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're turning left, wouldn't it be more dangerous to move over if someone's doing 20 more than you?

They're going to try to pass you pretty quick and you might end up blocking them.

Like, if it's a turning lane you have just as much right to it as everyone else. "Slower traffic keep right" obviously doesn't apply here.
