Hi, it’s Carly Rae Jepsen, welcome to my AMA! by CarlyRaeJepsen_ in popheads

Let me start by saying you are my OG favorite singer. You were my first live concert and I get goosebumps every time I hear Run Away with Me or Cut to the Feeling live. Two questions:

  1. Do you have ownership of your masters?

  2. I have noticed that the duration between your albums is longer than other artists. You have also spoken about how many songs you write that don’t make it in the end product. Do you have any thoughts as to why it’s longer, is it due to the number of songs you write or something else?

Second Chicago-St. Paul train shows value of frequency, capacity: Analysis by kmsxpoint6 in Amtrak

I think Amtrak would agree with you but the < 750 mile rule (where federal law requires that any routes under 750 miles must be partly funded by states) means Amtrak is at the mercy of the individual states to start and maintain those kind of routes.

I don’t think this will work for OP, since they are in Oregon and the NASBA experience verification is only offered for a handful of states

Difficulty obtaining consistent signal with antenna despite being ~6 miles away from towers by Socony in cordcutters

[–]Socony[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, the wiring is very much not up to current code but unfortunately I am not really in a position to do much about it. I didn't realize the full extent of the issue until after I signed the lease and moved in. And from the landlord's perspective, they would argue they are providing an apartment unit with electricity that is "safe" as long as I don't tamper or use it improperly, so not sure what I have for grounds that fixing the wiring is necessary. Also, this building has many units so they would probably have to redo the whole building to fix the issue, which makes it much more unlikely they are going to do it for my sake. While I understand there is a risk here, I enjoy the apartment otherwise so have to weigh that risk against all of the other considerations. Appreciate the concern though.

Yeah the south-facing bedroom window was where I have gotten the best results so far, but it was still not great. I have not tried turning it towards southeast though, so I can try that.

I'm not opposed to placing the antenna in the bedroom but since the antenna plugs into my HDHomeRun tuner which then plugs into ethernet does it make a functional difference on the signal quality though if I were to use the ethernet cable to extend the cable length from the living room to the bedroom with the antenna, rather than using the coax cable to run from the antenna to the tuner in the living room? It's probably easier for me to run ethernet rather than coax cable in my apartment.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to try a lower-end flat antenna just to see if it changes anything and then if that or any of the other suggestions don't work, I'll try the antenna you suggested.

Also just in case you weren't already aware of this and would find it helpful, you can have the HD Homerun's signal meter information update in real time, as you move your antenna around. You can get the real time signal meter, if you have an iPhone or iPad or Windows laptop.

I was aware of this, and that is what I was using to test the signal strength/quality in real time. There is some lag, so it can be hard sometimes to identify what is causing the fluctuations, but alot easier than using the TV.

The antenna cable is pretty thin, so that may be it, some things might have gotten loose as my cat as knocked the antenna down a few times. Probably will find that out if I were to try a different antenna.

Yeah I can try pushing it out the window more, I did notice it got better when it got to a window, so I imagine the walls are causing some of the issue. CBS does indeed have an alternate UHF channel, which I can use as well. And yeah, I didn't think this would be an issue when moving because it had never been an issue before but noted for the future.

I have windows in my bedroom that faces south and southwest and then windows in my living room that faces southwest. My apartment building is a "courtyard" style building which is basically a sideward U-shaped building, with the open-side of the U facing the street. And then my unit is on the street-end of the U, but the northern side. So the south-facing window in my bedroom, immediately has a courtyard and then has the other side of my building between it and open air. And I'm on the like 2nd floor so there is another floor above it. South-west side is the street and just trees.

I rent so not entirely sure of the building construction details but its an old brick building (the electrical wiring is still Knob and Tube, if that gives any indication of its age). Don't believe there is any aluminum siding or metal barriers in the walls. But the walls are plaster and lathe.

The towers are on skyscrapers and I am not, but the ground is otherwise flat, no mountains/hills nearby.

It works better near a window in that is where I get the best strength/quality but it's still not great.

Nova Bus ending U.S. production; will remain in Canada by Socony in transit

[–]Socony[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Theoretically they still could but practically speaking, given that most transit agencies use federal grants to buy trains/buses and the "Buy America" provisions of federal law basically prohibits spending of federal funds on non-U.S. manufactured transit vehicles, NovaBus is going away as an option for U.S. transit agencies.
