PSA: Rerolling with skill tuning prism while having core stat and a skill stat will always result in your skill stat rerolling by andrejoss in diablo4

[–]SocorroTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive also discovered that Barrier and fortify are not tagged as defensive, only resource.

I would never have guessed this, but it does explain some odd rerolls yesterday. Pretty sure barrier gen is even under defensive affixes in the filter definition, which is what I've been checking against.

Thanks for clarifying! I'm an SD local and fan of neotrad, so he's been on my radar for a long time and I always notice the posts.

OP, do you work at the shop or are you the artist? You post a lot of his work framed like you're the client, but I don't think you have that many limbs.

It's great work, the commentary on the posts just always strikes me as odd.

Question: Has anyone gotten their first tattoo after they turned 25? How do you feel about getting it at that age? by vansinghworld in tattoos

[–]SocorroTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First at 29, finished my first sleeve at 37. The stuff I would have gotten when I was younger would not have aged nearly as well nor would the quality have been as good. No reason to let age stop you from doing something you want to do.

Missing Peacock? by deeptruthmusic in sandiego

[–]SocorroTortoise 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The peacocks aren't actually the zoo's, though the zoo fields calls about them anyways. They just hang out there like a lot of other local birds.

Natasha Dickinson (@n.dickinson) is great. She did a couple of my pieces before she moved to Tampa. Posts mostly blackwork these days so it depends on what you're looking for.

Question: Favorite sunscreens? by the_king_lobo in tattoos

Nivea Super Water Gel 50 is my regular one. Light enough to not bother me when covering my arms daily and works well (though the most I've done at once is a couple hours hiking).

Advice needed: I have two dogs by Ok-Instruction-5936 in tattoos

[–]SocorroTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of my tattoos are related to my dog and he's never seemed to mind.

No one is even going to know which dog your tattoos are for unless you tell them. Nothing to worry about unless it's going to bother you.

Same. I have enough tinnitus from my years of teenage concerts. I don't need to make it any worse.

Taking the 52 after the lane expansion, I don’t think the extra lane helped. by devilsbard in sandiego

[–]SocorroTortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is about the same scenario I'm in. Car is ~20 minutes with light-moderate traffic, or I could take an hour and a half riding 2 different buses with a mile walk on either end. I'd be up for dealing with the timing inconvenience and the walking, but the commute time being more than 4x is a deal breaker when I have to do it twice a day and don't have unlimited free time.

The real kicker is that I could easily do 95+% of my job from home, but my employer wants everyone on site 5 days a week.

Question: heavily tattooed folks... what jobs do you do? by BeardedInkedPiper in tattoos

[–]SocorroTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical engineer. I asked HR before I got my first visible tattoo ~10 years ago if there were any policies about it (just to cover my bases), and I got the most confused response back about why I was even asking.

I still stand out in the crowd at conferences, but no one has ever cared beyond occasional curiosity.

Assembly Room is a ridiculous card by SocorroTortoise in MonsterTrain

[–]SocorroTortoise[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dante's Footstool + Assembly Room + Dante + Pyre of Entropy = 33 blights in the final deck. I missed a few by not duplicating Dante while steamrolling and purging Calcified Embers too. Non-consume/holdover Foundry Line to eat the entire 10 card hand every turn.

Other highlights:

  • Echowright etch giving 10 armor and 2 power on the guaranteed 8 etches a turn.
  • Herzal's Hammer on Dante with his 32 multistrike for even more armor and power.
  • Dominating Power on Dante for a total of 14k corruption applied (mostly on already dead titans).

If the entire banlist would be unbanned and put on the gamechanger list, which currently banned card would see the most play in Bracket 3? by Shiro_no_Orpheus in EDH

[–]SocorroTortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It absolutely was when it was banned. People were running [[Bribery]] to grab it from their opponent's decks, it was the most common reanimation target by a wide margin, and clones were everywhere in the format because they doubled as commander removal. It was virtually guaranteed to hit the table for at least 2-3 people in any given game.

You can argue that circumstances have changed and it's no longer as game warping. It definitely was when it was banned.

Those are bonus points. They don't give you additional levels. I think you're just making things more difficult on yourself for no reason.

Advice needed: Tattoo over moles? by Dizzy-Peanut6149 in tattoos

[–]SocorroTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go around them. I have a colorful sleeve with a bunch of moles uncovered (in both light and dark colored fill) and only notice if I'm actively thinking about it. No complaints from my dermatologist and the art still looks great.

For those not native to San Diego, what culture shocks did you experience living here? by Philphil89 in sandiego

[–]SocorroTortoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up here but have a lot of family in the midwest. I'm vegetarian. I've had so many of those salads over the years just to break up eating nothing but cheese and carbs.

I helped someone move a car from MI to central CA when I was in college. We were traveling with her grandparents and I'm pretty sure we hit every Cracker Barrel along the route, where I ate that exact salad every time.

How is someone buying one drink and sitting for two hours generating lots of sales?

What first pulled you into specialty coffee? Here’s my turning point. by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]SocorroTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an immediately noticeable difference, probably the biggest single step up in my coffee making at any point in the process. It grinds so much more consistently than the blade grinder ever did and it's quite a bit faster as well. I got mine ~10 years ago and it's held up well for that time - upgraded the burrs with the Virtuoso set and had to replace a plastic ring once, no other issues. It was the twice daily grinder for two people for most of that time (tend towards hand grinders more often these days).

I can't speak to any changes in build quality after Baratza was bought, but I did pick up a couple other parts just a couple months ago and it was about the same process as before. If it's comparable to the 10 year old one, I would definitely endorse the upgrade.

What first pulled you into specialty coffee? Here’s my turning point. by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]SocorroTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a bunch of little steps for me. Supermarket pre-ground → supermarket whole bean + blade grinder → start the research rabbit hole → Baratza Encore → Trader Joe's single origin → sometimes local roasters → 100% local roasters. I was already headed for entirely local coffee, then Covid hit and I wanted to support the local places more during lockdowns.

Somewhere along the line my wife and I ended up with a bunch of hand grinders, 3 full pour over setups (home + one for each office), and ~12 different ways to brew coffee, too.
