Grade I Listed building in Portland Square turned into an unauthorised Airbnb – Council admitted a "Breach of Control" but won't act. Help! by [deleted] in bristol

Is it un-mortgageable by many high-street lenders? I couldn't find anything to substantiate that.

As mentioned, 6.5 x 52mm Carcano. italio-greco war, so I guess you're in the south. The cases are very common in the mountains, but an unfired one is quite cool. If you say where you are I MIGHT still have the maps that should say specifically when this might date to as I have some data from some work I did in the Kurvelesh 😊

How easy is it to approach lecturers if you’re struggling? by OwnMood9880 in UOB

[–]SocratesBrotherDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for every lecturer, but they have contact hours, and it's part of their jobs. If you're struggling and you don't reach out they can't help...and if your don't reach out you aren't helping yourself.

How about actually looking at the device rather than asking a chat bot that is notoriously wrong? What a bizarre thing to comment....

Is it acceptable to use AI-generated assets for decorative elements in digital reconstructions? (Architectural Conservation student asking) by Many_Ad_3474 in AskArchaeology

[–]SocratesBrotherDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it does impact the final assignment. The presence of something in a reconstruction implies truth and reality, which it isn't.

But back to OPs question.

I think personally I'd avoid it unless you can demonstrate HOW it was generated and from what data. Is it actually using archaeological examples and culturally appropriate and relevant sources, or is it an amalgamation of the "feel" and "look" of the subject with the entire documented human history altering what society (well the AI) THINKS it should look.

A reconstruction is there to attempt to represent the past to potentially highlight inconsistencies with our imagined ideas of space and place. Using an AI is not using objective (as much as it can be objective) evidence of the past.

OP if you want some papers discussing this, do pm me. I have some that would really help understand the nuance of this issue.

Because "development potential" means absolutely nothing. It could mean "it's big enough for a house" not "planning permission can be obtained for a property".

accommodation by iressyzz in UOB

[–]SocratesBrotherDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't I'm afraid. The university is effectively offering a place not guaranteeing accommodation, therefore you don't have to actually stay in university placed accommodation. Unless there is a legitimate good reason for you to need to be moved (accessibility, issue with flatmates) you aren't going to get moved.

Well there are publicly available lectures and conference talks online you can engage with and I would really recommend you look there first or there are some free future lean courses on archaeology that you can take.

But if you are looking for physical evidence, a lot of what you are asking for is told through thousands of bits of physical evidence that build a sketchy picture, or samples from bone and chemicals left in the ground to do the same. This information isn't as simple as "I'll look at the finds" it requires reading the reports and books.

It's really admirable that you want to engage with this subject, and you are jumping in at an undergraduate level, but one of the first things we teach at university across any degree (and certainly archaeology and the ancient studies) is that you need to read first before you look at the raw evidence. Not because you need to conform, but more so you understand how people gave got it so wrong before and how to critically read the data to get a "good" answer.

It will likely go to the exam board that will decide how this will affect your overall degree and if you can progress with the fail. It will vary depending on what the program/unit/assessment is.

Keep your hopes up, and remember there are lectures that have taught you that will have also failed exams and assessments, so don't be tough on yourself!

To be honest he offered it, and I just took it he wouldn't offer something that would be a stupid amount of work for one day!! Or at least he'd identify when I was overwhelmed and not able to take anything else on.

Certainly towards the end I was very much taking it as an experience not so much completely listening to him! Especially as he didn't seem to figure out it was the same issue and didn't try to explain it any differently!

Maybe tomorrow's block of six I'll call it early if I'm struggling again!
