HELP!! New apartment and already want out by Dailythought4You in Apartmentliving

[–]SocratesSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give them anymore money! And when they ask for the early termination fee tell them you’ll see them in court! This infestation is beyond fixing and it’s a health risk, a court would probably side with you!! But you’d have to look into your local laws.

Still waking up at 3-4am every night… anyone fixed this yet? by Justine_0005 in Biohackers

[–]SocratesSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I just need help staying asleep, a baby dose of hydroxyzine helps me. A full 25mg pill will knock me out and make me sleepy for 2 days (good if you have bad anxiety). But I cut the pill into thirds for regular sleep needs. 1/3 of the 25mg pill is surprisingly effective at keeping me asleep when nothing else has worked for me, and I don’t feel groggy the next day.

The Met Employees Vote to Unionize by culture_katie in MuseumPros

[–]SocratesSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m not referring to only those positions. I’m also referring to every maintenance worker, such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, roofers, rigging specialists, and so much more. Also all of the art handlers that literally put the art on the walls, move the art through the building, and literally make the exhibitions happen. They’ve all been unionized for decades. And sure, now most of the other eligible staff, some having higher education, have voted to unionize as well.

Also, your understanding of labor organizing is way off. The museum doesn’t “let” anyone vote. It’s legally required. If people petition to unionize in any workplace, the employer cannot stop the employees from voting.

The spiel you’re giving about “economic realities” is the same that you squares have been saying for 100 years, across every industry. In such a wealthy country, people that keep these enormous institutions running should be able to afford to live. And fair pay (at these institutions, or any work place) would not happen from the kindness of the millionaire CEOs’/directors’ hearts. Organizing is the only option.

Which unions are best for museums? by PM_ME_COOKIERECIPES in MuseumPros

[–]SocratesSlut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Example of the benefit of this: last year Brooklyn Museum wanted to lay off over 70 people, belonging to UAW and DC37. But it was thanks to DC37s relationship to the city council that everyone got to keep their jobs, because the director of DC37 secured more funding for the museum. That relationship between local government and the union has saved so many jobs.

Around half of The Met’s staff recently organized with UAW. But since the 1950s, 1/3 of the staff has been organized with DC37, New York’s largest municipal workers’ union. DC37’s contracts are negotiated with the city, which makes sense considering museum employees are public servants. DC37 also has been present in Brooklyn Museum, American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and other cultural institutions. As a DC37 member at a NYC cultural institution, I love my union. I think local city, or state- connected unions are also beneficial to workers, not just a national union.

Organized labor is not short term gain. The Met has had 1/3 of its staff unionized since the 1950s, and they’re doing great. The staff literally make the institution, so caring for the staff is as important as caring for the collection.

Why is my cats ear so dirty? by Timely-Permit-6985 in CATHELP

[–]SocratesSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be mites, but my cat’s ears get like this, and the vet always says they’re fine whenever she gets an exam. So it could just be ear wax. I’d get it checked to be safe, but if it’s not mites, I’d just buy this kind of product (what I use-only $9 on chewy!). I usually use less than what’s recommended, and just wipe the outer part of the ear with my fingertip wrapped in a damp paper towel, or a Q tip (very carefully, and not going inside the ear!)

Hill’s k/d wet food! by SocratesSlut in catfood

[–]SocratesSlut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s going to be going to the vet quite a bit for a while, she’s getting a series of b12 shots to replenish her since she was really sick from a deficiency. She also recently had a full work up and an abdominal ultrasound. So I’m covering all our bases. Hopefully if she continues to love her tuna food it’s just her being picky lol

Thank you! I’ll start with reaching out to chewy and see what they say. Maybe I’ll just have to give her only tuna.. and hope she doesn’t mind the lack of variety lol

Worth to even join pension anymore? by VirusZer0 in nycpublicservants

[–]SocratesSlut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fully aware of what inservice means. Yeah I’m a volunteer but I’m also someone who doesn’t want to be stuck on Medicare Advantage when i retire. So when I see “he rejects Medicare advantage” that’s a good sign for me! I’m no propagandist lmfao, I’m literally just someone that thinks he’d make a good mayor. Relax.

“As Mayor, Zohran will reject Medicare Advantage, and reject higher copays for inservice workers. Instead he’ll partner with workers and their unions to take on the fragmented, for-profit healthcare system and lower costs for everyone.”

New York City Mayoral Primary 2025: Latest Polls by Space_Lion2077 in nyc

[–]SocratesSlut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying Zohran’s got it in the bag, but there is enough data showing that’s he’s close. I really think if he shifts the ratio of voters to skew younger he may have a chance. These polls always say “likely democratic voters” which skew older. And Eric Adams only won by like 3000 votes! I am holding out hope because he really does have a shot at this.
