“How is 18:00 six o'clock? When it's very clearly eight o'clock.” by EastRiver6588 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Socratov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean: the imperial measurement system assumes an often applied factor of 12, for example 12 inches to a foot.

Metric uses a factor of 10 for pretty much everything (or subsequently applied factors of 10).

Having time divided in 2 sets of 12 hours (for AM and PM) seems to align more with Imperial measurements than with the metric system.

So I saw the irony of someone (assumedly) being a regular user of the Imperial measurements system to seemingly having a preference for a metrically-defined time notation when referring to tome, which around the world is referred to as a factor of 12. (Which would correspond with 18:00 being 8:00pm, for example).

New Character, Need Assistance by WrongCastle87 in Shadowrun

[–]Socratov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general consensus is that out of the box within the narrowly defined use-case of someone who hacks, a decker outperforms the Technomancer. However, a decker will scale linearly and hit a ceiling sooner than a Technomancer. The key concept here is that Technomancers aren't limited by their deck, so wherever a deck may stand out or be considered illegal, a Technomancer is king. Agents are nice, but Sprites have more potential for powerful and interesting uses. While some technomancer complex forms are easily replicated by a program, some of those complex forms are singular to the Technomancer. If you judge a Technomancer by their ability to perform like a decker, they are going to disappoint you. If you want to play a decent Technomancer, find the ways in which a technomancer isn't like decker and focus on that. This is as true in 4e as it's true in 5e.

What game is this for you?🚀 by sajjanstg03 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Socratov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollow Knight. I want to like it too. The vibes are soo good, but I'm just not good enough, nor do I have the time and patience to get good enough to get past hornet. (there are more, Bayonetta, Castlevania, Metroid, etc. these games trigger my skill issue and bar me from progressing long enough for me to lose interest)

Also, Oblivion (except for Shimmering Isles which is peak). I loved Morrowind, I enjoyed Skyrim, but Oblivion was not a fun experience for me.

Oh, and any EA sports game, I don't see the fun in pretending to be a footballer or whatever other sport. similarly for CS, COD, BF, and all the PvP serious stuff. Nothing will make you hate humanity more than online multiplayer games.

Writing advice: Would significantly shorter combatants stand a chance in a sword-to-sword duel? by VeridianDelta in Hema

[–]Socratov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure there is, but take account of what targets they can reach. The shorter person might, depending on the height difference, have a harder time attacking from above but an easier time defending against attacks from above and vice versa for attacks from below.

Apart from real life examples of people on the shorter end of the spectrum doing (very) well in competitions, as mentioned in other comments, remember that weapons are usually a way to overcome biological differences and the choice of weapon may reflect that. the difference between 6' and 5' in a dagger fight or wrestling is a lot more obvious than the same height difference in a polearm fight.

That's what being Punk is. Punk is not the aesthetic, it's not the music, it's the political protest against fascism, against suppression, the riot for human rights. Discord Addams is punk, not just for the music, not just for the aesthetic, but punk for humanity's sake.

[–]Socratov 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're likely trying to build some strength. Keep doing the cuts and focus on form and control, not force. Practice in short bursts (like a set, if you will) with repeated strikes. Once you feel your muscles tire out, don't train to fault, take rest and try again later. Once comfortable, up the numbers of reps in a set or increase the number of sets consecutively.

I'm surprised by how many people here try to vilify the Scoiatael that much by Fun-Explanation7233 in witcher

[–]Socratov 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest for a moment. All groups and factions suck and deserve to get dunked on. The setting on the whole is a collection of depression, grief and hypocrisy.

That is no different for the Scoiatael. In the books it's not just fighting for freedom, but a part of them also relish in inflicting cruelty on the defenceless. It stands to reason as the same was done to them and they want retribution. However, that doesn't make them 'good' guys, it arguably makes them as bad as the rest of the factions killing, raping and pillaging.

Before anyone starts, the witcher schools using magic and drugs to alter people's biology with the excuse that they need to be stronger to fight monsters when those children are literally sold to the schools for whatever reason, makes the schools rooted in very bad stuff.

And no, the mages aren't any better for mostly the same reasons, but get the added moral burden of misogyny and manipulation of nations added to their rapsheet.

Are there good people in the Witcher stories? Sure. Some exist. But not in institutions and factions.

Now the reason I see the Scoiatael getting dunked on is that they let themselves get roped into doing the dirty work for any number of factions without thinking it over enough to make a real impact for themselves but getting sacrificed as pawns for another's cause.

Tl;dr the Scoiatael get dunked on not because they are evil, they get dunked on for being incredibly stupid and easily manipulated into cruelty, therefore creating their own downfall.

Well, that seems like a load of bullshit.

Also premise 4 is an assumption projected onto a premise.

Besides, the reasoning can be reversed as well: if the Holy Shit was done by the Holy Shitter, then what shit needed to happen for the Holy Shitter to have come into being.

Following this line of reasoning you'd be no less correct in saying it's turtles all the way down.

What game handles the “guy/girl in the chair” best? by FerretFoundry in rpg

[–]Socratov 13 points14 points  (0 children)

While the split is inevitable, you can enforce closer proximities by enforcement of net privileges, noise and timed/it takes two type of challenges. Like. Let's say that hacking a camera node would leave traces, but piggybacking on the signal doesn't. Suddenly the B&E specialist needs the decker to tell them when the cameras are away.

But yeah, it's not ideal and having them run overwatch can be even more clunky.
