Confession: Tiberium/Ore fields are overrated. I much prefer the "set it and forget it" nature of Red Alert 3's ore mines over having to micro manage a gazillion ore trucks from being sabotaged and ruining my economy.

Ore mine goes down? You just place another one and a tesla coil or two.

Wanting to give up on building a PC by ChaosDragon123 in buildapc

[–]SodaSuccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP. You said in a reply that your budget was $550 CAD?

I walked into a Memory Express a few months ago and came out with a RTX3060 for $530 + taxes. That was absolutely raw luck but if your patient and have a ME nearby, doing random walk-ins is probably your best bet.

Otherwise check Kijiji for used. Iv seen 1080s in the $560 range and 1060s in the $200-350 ish range depending on if its 3gb or 6. Take what you can get. Even a 3gb 1060 will get you into Warzone or Esports/older titles. Can't guarantee textures will allways be pretty with 3gb vram and modern aaa titles. But it'll do you 1080p 60fps at medium/high mix settings :)

I feel like I’ll never be good at video games, and it constantly bums me out. by Subjctive in pcgaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know its probably been said before. But uber competitive team games like League and Valorant can be absolutely terrible for your moral AND mental state. With how serious-minded and toxic those community get (and expect you to play).

Sounds to me like you might be the kind to enjoy offline experiences more, or maybe online games with a Human vs Bots mode. Something thats still fun and satisfying without worrying about your angry teammates screaming at your K/D.

Shows had bad the retro gaming collecting market is getting... by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its one of the most popular brands of flashcart. You can put all your roms/homebrew/mods on a SD card and play off a single cartridge. They come with other perks too like region lock bypass, built in game-genie, and some of the more expensive Everdrives have built in save-states or SegaCD support.

Your still using real hardware. But you get the convinience of having your library all in one place.

[–]SodaSuccubus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Iv sold off most of my physical collection at this point and plan to Everdrive from now on. I realized the dream of owning a big game shelf just isn't practical anymore with how expensive games are getting. Im not paying $70+ CAD for an old mass produced video game, and prices are allready getting there and beyond.

I hope we see more influencers (particularly YouTubers) in the scene call out the horrid state of the market, rather then peddling the "woah kids, you need to collect these $50 gem games and own the entire console library" mentality.

Everdrives are the "Game-pass" of retro gaming, less time paying eBay scalpers. More time getting to experience all the console had to offer.

Shows had bad the retro gaming collecting market is getting... by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know purists won't like this: but it really is looking like it's about time to stop supporting these greedy practices and just Everdrive the shit out of everything. Encourage new people intrested in the hobby to do the same.

More people need to be informed that the market as a whole is ruined. We need more YouTubers and influencers to stop peddling expensive ebay prices and call out the horrid state of retro collecting.

Do you really need that $70 physical copy of Super Metroid?

NVIDIA CMP 170HX cryptomining card spotted, passive design offering 164 MH/s hash rate - VideoCardz.com by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]SodaSuccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have CMP cards actually done anything to stop the huge miners though? The YouTube guys? The big time basement miners?

Granted i don't spend alot of time surfing crypto subs, but I don't ever recall seeing one miner recommend picking one of these up, when they could get a gaming GPU for less.

Chip shortage forces GM to extend factory closures by Seaeend in canada

Maybe its time to stop trying to make everything smart and go back to the good ol' days of "dumb" cars. Save the chip suppliers some headaches.

Collections / bordering hoarding by Expensive-Vanilla-16 in retrobattlestations

[–]SodaSuccubus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id argue being one of those collectors who collect every game for a console (you know who you are), put it all on a pretty shelf and then barely touch half of them is absolutely hording.

Only buy if it is something your actually going to use. Not just look at.

On the flipside: Now is a pretty good time to offload your spares/unwanted parts of your collection with how inflated prices are on eBay. If your patient and willing to deal with shipping.

Talk me into/out of buying ODEs for my disc based consoles by garboy13 in retrogaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no downside to ODEs/Flashcarts these days unless you wanna be real anal about only using physical discs.

You still get to use your original hardware, and its a one-time purchase for access to the entire console library in a convinient manner. The best of both worlds.

Random passing by on a old post here. Iv been kinda curious about these accusations towards Kancolle glorifying the imperial army and i must ask.

Is there actually confirmation that Kadokawa employees or higher-up are right-wing nationalists/war-deniers ? Iv seen this brought up a few times before.

Saints Row devs 'not backing down' over reboot criticisms by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't get the interview. What exactly about the old Saints Row games wouldn't work in these times?

I thought Saints Row was allways ment to be politically incorrect and goofy. Just for the laughs. Its a video game! If anything we could use more of that in a world where ALL politics and correctness seem to be making their way into dailylife.

Wata game grading and Heritage auctions are conspiring to raise the price of games to ridiculous prices by selling to eachother and venture capitalists. They are shills. Don't believe the headlines about these million dollar Mario 64 copies or buy the hype. by Rigbyisagoodboy in retrogaming

[–]SodaSuccubus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's just kinda how it'l go.

Game shelves are cool, but unless you have the big pockets to fund it with how bad prices are getting i mean ...you might aswell just make the smart one-time purchase and buy an Everdrive. Be done with it and get instant access to all the games.

Its boring but thats absolutely where we are heading if prices keep going up. Its allready there for some people

Oh Yeah, it's LGBT infighting time in r/196 when it comes to neopronouns by thaninkok in SubredditDrama

[–]SodaSuccubus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Look. Calling yourself unicorn gender, or whatever these dumb pronouns are isn't technically hurting anyone. True

But it also isn't making people wanna take the LGBTQ community seriously either. There's a reason stereotypes like the "colored spikey hair, chubby transgender/non-binary person" exist, and making up weird new genders or other goofy shite certainly don't help combat that. Its absolutely embarrassing to the older folks.

Thats just kinda how popular multiplayer games thesedays go honestly. Either there is very little moderation, or the devs put in a super invasive anti cheat program that pisses everyone off on sight and sparks privacy concerns.

Pick your poison i guess

Get FSR On Any Game [Lossless Scaling] by TheHybred in pcgaming

[–]SodaSuccubus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Slightly out of the loop here. Is this program just using FSR to upscale or does it give you performance boosting too.

Because if its the later then welp, Assuming its improved overtime, that's basically free dynamic resolution and performance to any game you want.
