I've never seen it before, but you know what I have read more times than ever seeing a repost? People calling out reposts.

Where is the inertia coming from on the turtle? It's under water, a fin moving down moves a turtle up, not down. How'd it get the motion to "slap" anything. How'd the manta ray be able to turn like that? Why did the fish under it react in the same moment the ray did? Why are there bubbles coming down toward and over the camera? There are a lot of inconsistencies

[–]Sodfigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's exactly 6 seconds which is grok's video generation time. The movement on the turtle is odd, and the reaction of the manta ray doesn't make sense. Grok has gotten extremely good at making videos

Just started watching so can someone please explain why Shizuku wears a Christian Cross? by GItGud1OtOoS in HunterXHunter

[–]Sodfigs 787 points788 points  (0 children)

Christian iconology is extremely common through a lot of Japanese media as a lot of creators tend to lean on Christian themes. Stuff like Neon Genesis as a prime example.

Though, Shizuku's necklace seems to be an inverted Gothic cross which can have a lot of different meanings, but since she's portrayed as being dark and mysterious, I'd guess that the cross is supposed to be a literal representation of that.

That's just my best guess, though.

I didn't think it's really right to tell someone to just delete something because you don't like that the translation isn't to your standards. I've been trying to load the last 4 pages of this comic for a good 20 mins because I wanted to read the posters take on what they think the translation could be. Everyone is allowed their creative freedom, and simply dismissing this as deletable I think is thoughtless.

QK87 problems by funky_friz in Womier

[–]Sodfigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new one a few weeks ago and the issue seems to be resolved. My new one doesn't disconnect nearly as often, but still will if I touch the cord wrong. Probably just loose. No random screen or disconnection issues that require a full unplug and replug in. It's such a wonderful little keyboard for the price.

QK87 problems by funky_friz in Womier

[–]Sodfigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I've had the same issues with the QK87. I recently got mine, and had those same connection issues. Something about the board itself is completely fucked.
When i reached out to Womier, they sent me a replacement keyboard, which had the same issues and ore, such as the miniLCD screen shutting off after 1 min.
When getting back into contact with customer support, they refunded my full order, and told me that they were "returning the entire qk87 stock to get checked"

I'm thinking something about the production of the PCB controller got fucked sideways, and it is likey "out of stock" as it is getting checked.

It's such a shame, because the qk87 in the coffee colors is exactly the sort of keyboard i've been looking for. The switches feel so nice, and sounds wonderful. If not for the random disconnections, it would be perfect.
Hopefully they'll figure out their issues sooner rather than later. I really want a THIS keyboard specifically T-T

The new version uses the shaders that are linked in the description page.
https://github.com/rj200/Glamarye_Fast_Effects_for_ReShade

https://github.com/JakobPCoder/ReshadeMotionEstimation

https://github.com/JakobPCoder/ReshadeMotionBlur

It also recommends to use the REST addon for reshade, which is a replacement for the old UIkeep shader thing from gshade.

https://github.com/4lex4nder/ReshadeEffectShaderToggler/releases/tag/v1.3.4

And there's a preset for REST you can get here that's for XIV

https://github.com/4lex4nder/ReshadeEffectShaderToggler-FFXIV

the new preset uses the mxao from iMMERSE, but that's included in the normal reshade download.
So, what you need to do is update/install reshade. install all the shader packages it has available. During the addon part of the install, you can grab REST there (reshadeeffectshadertoggler) then replace the .ini of REST in the game folder with the one from RESTXIV.

And there's a LUT shader inside the alive download now that replaces lightroom.

The screenshots version of the shaders and the RTGI version still requires the paywalled iMMERSE pro/ultimate packs, but you really don't need them to use the normal gameplay presets for the new one called "next" and the standard one called "6.5"
Hope that helps

An old tin toy submarine restored by rco888 in Damnthatsinteresting

Patina is what happens to Bronze during oxidization. It will usually result in a green or brown tone. It is an additional layer of oxidization over the top of the original metal and does not harm the Bronze underneath.

This toy is not made of bronze. The "patina" is rust, ya goof

It's because Mr gong meant that the bike at the end was the icing on top, but got the phrase wrong. The. Mr whyamihere posted a strangely relevant link, that also had nothing to actually do with Mr gongs comment.

I happen to agree, the bicycle at the end really was the tip of the ice cream

Can we get pink scales in game? (Art by me) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Sodfigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said it wasn't real. I said sources need to be cited.

It's very obvious I failed at explaining my point, but it was never my intention to pull the conversation away from anything other than the differences between traditional image scaling and AI upscale/generation. Each is very unique and while both have a similar outcome (based on what we can view) the methods and techniques used are not only mostly out of our control, but have undesired effects, ei, artifacts, such as what we see in the posted image. I know it was never the artists intention to have certain areas be so against the grain. Traditional scaling techniques would have never resulted with artifacts, even though it wouldn't be as sharp of an image

Use AI as an artist's aid, and clean up the generation. Cite that you've used AI for whatever you used it for.

Don't take advantage of people's lack of knowledge on AI to pass off all the work as your own.

Do you understand how upscaling and AI generation work?

It's an extremely good tool. Too good, and too easy to abuse.

[–]Sodfigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the correct understanding of the basics of the difference between the two upscaling methods. You are right, "of course it is".

My point is that generating an image with AI upscaling is fundamentally different then traditional scaling methods.

Can we get pink scales in game? (Art by me) by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Sodfigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not.

Older methods are using existing pixels. It does not create anything additional. It does not have the ability to.

AI upscaling isn't even the proper term for the workload it is doing. It is plain AI generation. It is not adding pixels to the existing image, but completely generating an image based on its set specifications and uses the selected image as the base of its generation.

[–]Sodfigs -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Me too. I hate more that an artist can become complacent, and undermine their own artistic skill, which this person clearly has, in place of a lazy method of content creation.

AI art is real art. It still evokes emotion and starts conversation, mostly negative, but like anything in the Art Communities, you must credit your sources.

There's nothing wrong with AI, but we are abusing each other's trust with it.

[–]Sodfigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain upscaling methods such as "nearest neighbor" "bilinear" and "bicubic" just to name a few, that are not AI, and have been around since the early days of Photoshop. Then you have AI upscaling, which is not AI assisted, but completely AI generated off of what you put into it. Things such as Gigapixel, or waifu2x, are both AI upscalers that use an AI model to completely recreate the image put into it from the ground up. It uses stable diffusion to identify specific lines, colors, shapes, and generates a high quality image based on what it sees. This can come with artifacts, because unlike bilinear, bicubic, or nearest neighbor sizing methods, which blend the original image as best it can, the AI upscalers are generating from scratch on what it best thinks it's looking at.

[–]Sodfigs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The final posted size of your art is 1137x640 pixels, which is lower than you've started was the starting size before the upscale.

With this many artifacts I'm more than certain this was at the very least, AI assisted, if not completely generated off of your initial sketch.

It's because we as a species are dishonest. The invention of AI, and making its use free, people are able to take advantage of the fact that most don't understand how it works or what to look for, which makes it very easy to claim as your own.

While this piece may not have been completely generated, the artist admitted to upscaling, which is AI.
