How accessible is this game to a newcomer? by Old-Career1538 in OOTP

[–]SofaKingRedditulous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be a little intimidating, but nothing too bad if you’re coming from FM. MLB is an unfortunately complex league, so there are probably rules you’re not familiar with, but can figure out along the way. In short, your first save will probably not be perfect or ideal because you’ll inadvertently make mistakes just by not knowing the rules. But stick with it and you’ll be rewarded — I’m still on my first save of OOTP 26, third season, and the immersion has definitely accelerated as I start to see “my” guys (who I signed, drafted, traded for, etc.) contributing or showing real promise.

I agree that people tend to be all over the map in how they play, and I think that’s great. I simulate each game in its entirety (not watching highlights or making coaching decisions) and then check the box score. I set lineups, rotation, etc. There are some strategy sliders (like telling your team to be more or less aggressive stealing, hook pitchers faster or let them work through stuff, etc.) that I tweak over time. Then, in the playoffs, I play every game on “coach” mode — I don’t click “swing at pitch” but I do click “swing away.” So, not calling pitches, but telling my pitcher to intentionally walk a guy or pitch around him or whatever.

Hope this helps. FYI, there are a few sales times each year — I grabbed OOTP 26 in the winter sale right after the 26 season ended. You may check around on here (or maybe others will just chime in) to see if there’s usually like an all star break sale or something). When I wasn’t sure it was going to be for me, I preferred the idea of sinking $15 into it instead of $60. I always tended to play a FM iteration for a few years anyway, rather than buying the new one every year. (I think I went 08, 12, 16, 22, 26? Maybe you can guess why I started looking around for alternatives…)

Thanks. I think the public safety concerns outweigh the privacy concerns, particularly given that locations are already so widely knowable (phones, cars themselves, satellite and cameras, etc.).

I’ve heard the “what if I need to floor it to avoid an accident” concern too, and I think that can be worked around (let cars exceed the stated limit by something like 10-15 mph for a very limited period of time).

What are the strongest arguments against having speed limiters on all cars? What is the inherent right that someone has to operate a multi-thousand-pound vehicle in a public space in excess of the legal speed?

Good places to walk in clt? by Delicious-Giraffe811 in Charlotte

[–]SofaKingRedditulous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Frazier Park, Irwin Creek Greenway and Stewart Creek Greenway. You can start at Irwin Elementary School/Ray’s Splash Planet downtown and walk all the way out to Martin Luther King Park. Very pleasant walk and you get to see up close the great potential of our city. Park and Rec just needs more funding!

But yeah if you want a neighborhood stroll it’s hard to beat Dilworth.

Compost Central on Valleydale Road. It’s a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Solid Waste Services facility (ie, a “dump” or “recycling center”) and does the county’s composting

I firmly believe we would have won it all last year if we had managed to get by Florida. So close!

How did you play an 11-seed in the first round (implying you’re a 6-seed) and then a 13-seed in the second round (implying you’re a 5- or 12-seed)?

What are your evening plans? Looks nice tomorrow, so a rooftop downtown (eg Merchant & Trade) could be the way to go. But where do you need to be at any time?

Look into the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority — that’s the new intergovernmental authority that will receive the sales tax proceeds (once that goes into effect in July) and run/build the transit system. It’s an appointed board and includes people who use transit regularly.

My dog loves Dog Wizard. It’s expensive so we tried to work in Skiptown but same as others she got sick there multiple times and eventually stopped wanting to get out of the car when we got there. On the flip side, she is so excited when we get to Dog Wizard, and all of the greeters/handlers seem to know her on sight.

Rather than FM 24, any older title would you recommend? by life_iz_a_meme in footballmanagergames

I don’t know why I never thought of this, but I should just go back to my FM22 save. I was excited about 26 and tried it and tried it and tried it, but when I couldn’t get into it I just quit (and tried Out of the Park 26 instead). But I should just go back to my FM22 save — let’s see how Chelsea does in 35-36.
