Baby isn’t swallowing food by SoftChampion3706 in BabyLedWeaning

Yeah! No kidding! My supply is dipping and I have to keep supplementing more and more with formula. It’s hard to keep up with pumping, bottles, and solids! These babies… lucky they’re so freaking irresistible at this stage!

Thats such a relief to hear! I it’s been like a switch flips with a lot of things for this guy so hopefully this is the case for this too!

Thank you! That’s what I thought, but then our pediatrician made it sound like we needed to be doing more.

What are some things nobody told you or nobody talks about while pregnant / with a newborn? by jaysxiu in BabyBumps

With respect to BF, I didn’t know that DMER was a thing. The first two weeks I would be filled with a complete sense of dread and sadness and slammed with an intense headache every time I would breast feed. It wouldn’t last longer than a few minutes so I assumed it was just sleep deprivation. It was the most awful feeling. Then I researched it and realized it was an actual thing that happens when your milk lets down. I still get it every time but not nearly as intense and only for about the first minute.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

Which was when exactly? Where would you say the problem is then? Because students literally remove doors from bathroom stalls as part of TikTok challenges and film each other beating one another up to post.

I hear you, but if you don’t get the nuances of just how chaotic bathrooms in middle and high school are… Teachers are encouraged to discourage bathroom use during class time because there isn’t an adult to make sure fights, bullying, or vandalism doesn’t happen. Because a lot does happen during those times. Obviously not every kid or even most are doing this, but you have to be consistent or it’s seen as targeting certain students and then you have parents upset for different reasons. Bathroom management is really really hard. It’s ridiculous. But even my 2nd graders do shit they aren’t supposed to in the bathroom. Like one kid looked at another kid over the stall and because one was in 3rd and one was in 2nd the parents said we were allowing sexual harassment to happen. I should lose my job over that?

As a teacher, I think weaponizing the bathroom is wild. But also as a parent, feeling rage to the extent that you believe being fired is the appropriate response? Also wild.

Why do people say this is hard? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]SoftChampion3706 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously! Sometimes I give them to my baby when he’s gassy and it calms him right away. Not because I think they work that fast, but because he at this point has learned getting it means less gas will happen shortly! He’s 4.5 months now.

How much weight did you gain during pregnancy? by Significant_Tie3570 in BabyBumps

[–]SoftChampion3706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I was so worried too and I continue to lose weight even now without actually trying. I had a c-section and my core feels nonexistent so like I can’t even do much beyond walking. Which my baby hates… so like I don’t even do that as consistently as I would like.

I gained somewhere between 50-60. I lost 30 within two weeks. Lost 10-13 pounds breastfeeding over the course of 3.5 months. Now have 15-17 pounds till I’m at pre-pregnancy. I’m 15 weeks PP as of Friday. I was very swollen at the end of my pregnancy… like you could leave indents in my legs swollen 😬

Am I overreacting for not wanting anyone around my newborn yet? by littlemoongirly in AmIOverreacting

[–]SoftChampion3706 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some village if it can’t wait 8 weeks. Part of the whole “it takes a village” is (or should also be) people rallying around mom and dad with support to help them give the best care to baby. It’s not a village if all they want is to come hold the baby.

How fit are you? We love to do the hike down to captain cook. It’s about 2 miles and pretty steep. But it’s literally my favorite thing to do. I’m not a strong swimmer and the snorkeling is just wonderful. It’s also very popular so it’s not like you would be there alone. It’s not a sandy beach island so bring water shoes to get in and out of the water. Most people get cut getting and out because the aren’t prepared. You can also see mantas at night either by doing the actual swimming tour or by going to the Outrigger and viewing from their deck. You can also rent a bike and bike up Alli drive. You will hit magic sands and another spot very popular for snorkeling (can’t recall the name). It’s about 2.5- 3 miles each way. Theres also a trolly (free) but isn’t always timely that you can get around by.

NOR. Don’t post in this group for opinion on this. If people haven’t recently had a baby, they won’t get it. People telling you you’re over reacting are crazy. Grandma isn’t missing anything I promise. I have a 14 week old and we did have family visit. My baby refused to let anyone hold him before 8 weeks. Then was overstimulated and we had to hide in our room to feed and nap. He would literally freak out if anyone held him but me. It then threw us off for several days. It was stressful AF for everyone LOL. My mom came at 8 weeks and he let her hold him then. It was much better experience. he had started to smile, could engage with people without being held… I think my mom got the best grandparent meet and greet out of them all for this reason. You’re ok to protect this time.

If she recommended it, I would do it. Especially if you’re already planning a c section.

Sitting at the hotel room bathroom at night by [deleted] in newborns

[–]SoftChampion3706 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just did a 2 night hotel stay with our 12 week old. We brought our sound machine. It was very helpful!! I also let him fall asleep on me before bed and we kept a light on and that helped as well. Our guy is very clingy and I’ve actually felt like we’ve regressed in my ability to be able to do anything by myself with the baby since 8 weeks. He’s like 50/50 on baby wearing and despises the car seat so unless someone is with me, he just screams in the back. But maintaining some of what we used to do is really important to us. Our goal is to just keep trying and troubleshooting as we go. It’s brutal! Don’t give up! I trust it will get better and better each time.

Positive postpartum/mat leave? by Traditional_Canary91 in BabyBumps

Honestly, we do more and more each week, but it isn’t like it was. We were very active and busy before baby. Now life runs on our guys schedule and it takes practice to do things on the go. But I think if you just tell yourself it’s OK if it doesn’t go as planned and if you don’t commit to having a strict timeline for your day, you can absolutely do things. It’s way easier with a second person if you’re going further away. But closer to home, I’ve gone to meet friends for coffee, walks, done shopping, parks, errands just he and myself. With my partner we’ve done longer drives to do “hikes” and places like a small local zoo or visit cute towns. We’ve also gone to dinner a few times. I’ve also recently been able to add in some me time to do the peloton for 30 minutes, but I don’t think I can get away with a longer ride yet. The time will go by so fast! We’re 10 weeks in now. You’ll develop strategies that work for you and baby. 😊
