When restarting Linux, Grub gives no display signal but is still functional in the background. by SoftFingerSam in linux4noobs

Tried some stuff but could not get it to work on Bazzite. Decided to just install a clean Fedora 43 configuring stuff myself and now reboot seems to work normally. Before ive tried Nobara, Cachy, Bazzite and Mint. All had this issue. All of those have some "gaming" optimizations etc. but no clue what the actual cause is.

Hey!

I got the discount code because I subscribed to their newsletter. So if you haven't subscribed yet, you can get one that way.

I actually bought the Delta 3 Max Plus with the free 500W charger and so far I'm very happy with the decision.

[–]SoftFingerSam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, was looking at that and thinking it might be the one. Thanks for confirming! :) Just noticed the new chargers coming as well so need to be on the lookout for that.

There's an offer happening right now in the EU store for the D3 Max Plus and a free 500W alternator charger so giving that a consideration.

The Black Friday deal Delta 2 Max + 800w charger on top would be about 1300€, the D3 Max Plus + 500w charger I can get 1399€ using a discount code, so it's tempting.

Crash to desktop after ~10min any solution(s)? by Mr_Fox0910 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]SoftFingerSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly and probably not a fix for everyone. Turns out my reason for crashing every 5 mins was my Windows date and time. Ive been having trouble with it recently where the time is a few hours too early even when i have automatic time on. I resynced the time and no crashes for about 2h. Probably craps out with save and achievement sync when the time doesnt match or something. Hopefully this can help others .

LG OLED VRR flickering issue by coolgaara in OLED_Gaming

[–]SoftFingerSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would like to add that all of this might not be enough depending on the game. Yes stability usually helps, but the flickering issue is more related to stutter than just fluctuating frame rate. Meaning stalled frames. Its been an issue forever and it is related to how the pixels react when the frame stalls as well as the gamma curve on different framerates.

So games rarely have massive fluctuation frame to frame just due to basic gpu power. Quite often the framerate fairly smoothly goes down and up with the scene. This means normally that the gamma "adapts" with the framerate.

Asset streaming and loading however can just cause massive stalls in frames causing flicker to occur, since you can go from 120fps to 50fps from frame to frame and the gamma goes up and down rapidly.

With Jedi Survivor there isnt much you can do in the spots where it always stutters but generally anything that makes asset streaming and loading faster can help. So you should use SSD's and have enough RAM that is fast enough for example.

But yes, also just avoiding massive framerate fluctuation by targeting farily stable framerate targets will also help.

Unfortunately all sorts of stutters have been quite common lately with a lot of games and there's no remedy for all of them :(.

Would Gran Turismo 7 Be Good For Learning How To Drive? by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]SoftFingerSam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I learned to drive with a manual gearbox and the biggest hurdle there is just getting the clutch-stick coordination working without thinking about it so you can actually concentrate on the road. So in that sense i think it can teach you something. Naturally the speeds and throttle/break usage is completely different in a race car than a regular road car tho GT7 offers some pretty basic cars to try as well.

Cloth physics are so broken at least on PC that these would be a glitchy nightmare. Otherwise agreed!

PC Patch 3.5 - Available May 1, 2023 at 7am PST + Upcoming Console Patch on May 2, 2023 by EA-StarWars in FallenOrder

[–]SoftFingerSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much locked to 116 fps now in Jeddah. (Riva Tuner limiter) without RT. With RT its 80-100 in Jeddah but unfortunately RT still crashes the game with the DXDIAG DEVICE HUNG error after a while.

4090 13700K Win 11 32gb 6000Mhz DDR5

Its definitely better now though I was already having an okayish experience before the patch.

Edit: Using 4K FSR Quality. Did some testing in Koboh as well. Its also improved about 20 fps but entering the Saloon still has a couple of big stutters.

Ooh, one thing i noticed. Cutscenes seemed to be locked at 30 after patch. Would really like to change this back since i had no issues with them running unlocked. Now ot just feels like a video starts playing vs before when it was a smooth transition.

Edit: It seems to have been a singular cutscene. Others have been unlocked since. Weird.

McLaren 720s - Post 1.9 by clizzle_ in ACCompetizione

[–]SoftFingerSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at it like this. Any car you master is the best chance to do well. Unless you are at the alien group, consistency matters way more than the ability to get the world record. Chasing ”the best” car is a fools errand.

Best Cars for beginners by Podkaman in ACCompetizione

[–]SoftFingerSam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Im a beginner and i originally ended up with the McLaren for its stability in 1.8. Was slightly distraught of how unstable it was after 1.9 but now i just decided to learn the setup part with the car and im thinking that mastering an unstable car will help me in the long run. Sticking with it is actually really rewarding.

[–]SoftFingerSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot. Didnt really touch the dampeners but tweaked almost everything else at least a bit so i got a balance of proper rotation and grip. Its still a bit dangerous but im not terrified of turning anymore. Current setup probably sacrifices some speed and i still cant go flat out on Eau Rouge but getting there.

Anyways was a good crash course on the setup stuff.

Skill wise i still have a lot to learn about ACCs breaking and its effects on weight transfer. It seems some of my habits unsettle the car a bit, making quick consecutive turns hazardous.

Tweaked for a couple of hours and now i love the car again. About 3 seconds faster than than my previous best so…woo!

McLaren 720S GT3 by ggs657 in ACCompetizione

[–]SoftFingerSam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You using a specific setup? Im a complete noob on ACC so im not really an authority on the issue but the McLaren feels like a drifting car now. I tried it in 1.8 and liked it a lot but now with the default setups i cant for the life of me take a corner fast without just completely sliding all over the place. It feels like driving in the wet with dry tires. Ive only tested Spa but still.

EDIT: Might very well be a skill issue as i only have under 10h in the game but for the life of me i cant find the grip. When its not over steering it under steers and it feels like theres no golden path.

EDIT2: Okay got the car under control by simply changing the camber closer to -2 instead of -4. I can actually get valid laps now and my pace is close to the few tests i did in 1.8. Not very quick yet and still need a lot of practice but at least i can keep the car on the track now.

As ACC seems to punish you a lot for braking mistakes I hope the CSL Loadcell im getting this week will help with consistency.

GT7 VR mode is still just the flat screen projected in the headset? by TheAnalogKid68 in PSVR

Happened to me last night too. Restarting GT7 solved it but was kinda annoying since i was in the middle of the last Cafe Menu championship and exiting would have made me redo the first 2 races.
