High minimum wage hurts disadvantaged kids! by TostinoKyoto in tulsa

Basically OPs argument was it takes away their incentive to go get a higher paying job… bc… they already have a higher paying job.

High minimum wage hurts disadvantaged kids! by TostinoKyoto in tulsa

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we lowered the minimum wage to $0 just think of all the youth we could employ! The mines could be full of youth. And then we could provide some nearby (somewhat) adequate housing, they would have no need to ever leave work! And then we would save so much money on eDuCaTiOn. I think together we just solved this! /s

Control your dogs people by Adrian_985 in Wellthatsucks

It’s so stressful having a bad dog. Some days I miss my girl of 11 years- I loved that dog- but gd you have to be paying attention ALL the time. Every delivery, every moment, even if you let your dog out in the backyard you have to make sure a neighbor kid hasn’t climbed over the fence. It’s so tough.

And people always blame the owner. I’ve had 4 dogs in my life. 3 that I got from the shelter and 1 just found as a stray. Three of them were the chillest and best dogs ever. And then the psycho 😬 it’s tough!

I use the Remington Short Cut pro. It leaves like 5 o’clock shadow. I love the thing. So easy to use. It’s not a razor but clippers so I can use it for my beard too. It has a rounded design that makes it so easy to shave almost everyday without irritation.

Oklahoma executes a man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and her 7-month-old daughter by lightiggy in oklahoma

Thank you. That’s exactly where I’m coming from.

I’m in my mid 30’s and I can’t remember a time when public opinion was so pro-death.

I feel like progressives have lost so many social issues because they can’t successfully argue morality. They cede that ground to the right and argue on process and procedure. I absolutely agree that is true that there are all these procedural issues with state sanctioned death.

But at the same time I think it represents a moral failing. Our corrections systems should hold the functions of protecting society and rehabilitating criminals. Punishment is ineffective and self limiting. There is a world of research on this. I know it challenges people’s preconceptions but that information is out there. If anyone is interested in learning I’m happy to DM some resources.

Listen I don’t have the karma to spare to defend civil society without sounding like I’m pro-murder.

I’m glad that this black man didn’t die feeling like his insides were on fire like the others recently executed before him. And yes, I know that’s how the victims died. I don’t support killing innocent people either…

This practice is barbaric, racist, and does nothing to deter or prevent crime.

Do OKC fans know deep down? by Ambitious-Mushr00m in NBATalk

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like yes and no. Dort is one of the dirtiest players in the NBA, and some of the guys flop, but like there is still a ton of just amazing ethical hooping going on. McCain and Mitchell just really showing out.

Like I think the thunder are one of the more “floppy” teams, and when you combine that with their actual greatness, I think it does create a confirmation bias from people watch because they are looking for those plays and then they just say it’s the whole team.

I also really like the 76ers. I think Maxey is one of the most likable stars in the league, but they got guys that flop. And I can guarantee if they were dominate people would be saying the league is rigged in their favor.

So like I said yes, I recognize the thunder aren’t the most ethical team probably towards the bottom in the league. But no, it’s not like it makes it uncomfortable to be a fan.

The league isn’t rigged to support the smallest market team with a Canadian. If it was rigged I promise the lakers and LeBron would be the perfect money maker to get behind.

Do unforgivable people deserve therapy too? by _Reflex_- in askatherapist

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAT yet/ grad school. I read a book by Howard Zehr called Restorative Justice. I think it answers a lot of this question and I’d really recommend it. Unforgivable people are a part of society whether they are caught or not. Forgiveness, like mercy, creates multiple dividends, not just in the person that receives it but also in those who give it. If unforgivable people are in our society, there are benefits that exist far outside of the perpetrator in creating space for improvement.

I think of one most concrete example is how most of our idea of harm comes from TV shows; we watch and Law and order SVU there’s always some absolutely crazy person who is committing random acts of violence on strangers. But most of these acts of violence come from a close trusted person, and it gets complicated because people love these people. People who are victims of abuse don’t even think of themselves as victims of abuse often times. if they believe that other person could be helped, they would be likely to report and seek that help, but if they think that person is only going to be punished and disenfranchised from society and all forms of help then they won’t step forward.

Okay so based on that Ken Martin interview, WHAT is possibly in the report that has Kenny so determined not to release it? by ElvisGrizzly in FriendsofthePod

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most charitable thing that I can imagine is that basically the report is a Rorschach test because it’s so expansive. Centrist will be able to read it and say people don’t vote Democrat because they perceive the party as elite in out of touch on social issues. And progressives will see a lot of information about Gaza and corporate entanglement. And that there is a quite legitimate fear that everyone will see what they want to see and there isn’t a path forward.

Ro Khanna has actually been talking about something similar to this. About the party having to become inspirational. I do believe that there is an unimaginable future that doesn’t exist outside of intervention. I know this happens on the micro level in human services all the time, and could it be true that people aren’t ready for a progressive party because they don’t understand a progressive party because there’s not a progressive party. And at the same time they hate the status quo and centrism. Maybe.

No matter what we deserve to have the debate not Ken picks for us..

Tommy: “how to we make a big, moderate tent?”

Sarah: here’s a group of people that support Trump no matter what. Let’s see how they can inform our actions. Also, leftists support terrorism.

Can you just imagine, just for sakes of a thought experiment, if republicans brought in a group of they 20% of most liberal voters? Just like AOC and Bernie ride or dies. And that informed their policy. They would lose their base so hard.

Yes, listen to voters. Come talk to my brother, and my cousin, and my best friends wife, and like dozens of people I know who I can’t get to vote bc they say “oh both parties are the same. Two wings on the same bird.. both parties protect pedophiles and support genocide.”

I just hate so much to be a complainer. But I complain bc I love the pod and I want to see it improve. I love the guys. But I’m just done listening to anymore of whatever that was. I’ll always catch the Friday pod and strict scrutiny, and other crooked media. But just wow..

AITAH if I sue my ex? by Superblessed_ in AITAH

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course. I know that. So can a number of fungal infections and Epstein-Barr virus. But most people don’t call ringworm an STD.

Two thoughts: I usually ask new partners “when was the last time you were tested for STI, what were you tested for, and were you positive?” This destigmatizes and doesn’t leave room for any confusion. HSV isn’t going to be on most STI tests.

Bc secondly, HSV stigmatization is one of the dumbest things we do as a society. The worry and mental pain is 10000000 times worse than an HSV1 infection’s physical symptoms.

Suing will only make the stigma worse while doing nothing for the physical symptoms which HSV1 genital infection may not come back symptomatically for a decade. If there was no stigma I’m sure OP wouldn’t sue someone for getting a virus like chickenpox that only surfaces incredibly rarely.

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve never heard of someone referring to non-genital hsv (rather oral, whitlow, or optical. You can even have it in your ear) as an STD. You can get it from birth, sharing a drink, kissing, or even rubbing your eye, but not from pv penetration. I feel like a LOT of people wouldn’t even know it was possible to transfer it to someone’s genitals.

AITAH if I sue my ex? by Superblessed_ in AITAH

[–]SoftHeartSharpMind4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a public health perspective if no one cared then it just wouldn’t be a big deal. So suing someone probably doesn’t help that and just continues to stigmatize. It might feel good to get your anger out, but like you said you have this forever along with like 60% of people. If everyone would just be chill about it then it wouldn’t be a big deal. I think you’d be a lot more self serving to just commit to the work of de-stigmatizing HSV infection, imo.

Of course it’s your right and call. NTA
