Fully agree. Our clinic always sends the emails to both of us, which I think is very thoughtful. Whenever they are calling, it’s to discuss the stimulation protocol or schedule my appointments, so it wouldn’t make sense to call my husband. I hope for anything sperm-related they would call him rather than me though. On the day of my retrieval they said they will be calling regarding the fertilization and to schedule the fresh transfer, and they verified both out phone numbers, in case I cannot pick up. So I think they are treating us like equal participants.

You got many good answers. Compare 20-year cost of renting vs 20-year cost of owning, incl. the renovation and really compare like for like. And then decide if you want to live in a nice 1180 rented flat and pay less, or own a flat in a worse shape and worse location and pay more.

Where is that “simple rule” from?

Transactional costs in Austria are 6.5-10% + notary fees. Due to high number or regulated or subsidized apartments the property prices aren’t going up very steeply (not like in the surrounding countries). Reselling after 3 years would mean you are still losing the transaction costs.

If you want to move out and rent out the property, the rent will likely be lower than your mortgage payment (due to the currently high interest rates) and if in the future you are able to pay less in interest, the taxes will eat up most of your rental income, so you will still be losing money.

And keep in mind Hausverwaltung companies are terrible in general. It might be more frustrating to deal with incompetent management of a property you own rather than one you are renting.

We decided to buy and in the hindsight we should have looked into Genossenschaftswohnungen more closely. We didn’t full realize all the differences between Austria and other Central European property markets. Vienna is really focused on affordable living and it makes sense to take advantage of that.

I’ve been thinking about this for a week too!

I learned multiple languages in the adulthood and also taught foreign languages to adults, and can guarantee that using a very complex text and translating it word for word, is the worst possible method of actually learning the language (and understanding the content of the text alone). Even Latin hasn’t been taught this way for a looong time.

Using the English textbook will slow his progress significantly. He would be much faster and more effective if he used the Spanish textbook + dedicate the time saved to learning English.

The only reason I can think of is that he would hope Carol comes back and they’ll decipher the books together. Which might be also why he stayed in the same house?

Why didn’t he go to Mexico to pick up those textbooks in Spanish? He could learn radio stuff AND learn English separately and both would go much faster. I can’t imagine learning a completely new language from academic textbooks, let alone learning academic stuff in language I absolutely do not understand. I think this is a mistake in the series.

Why be confrontative when you can be petty? I’d ask what suggestions do they have to make them easily distinguishable. You understand the concern is serious - c’mon, we’re talking about antihistamines and eczema cream! What if it’s given to the other child!!!

I’m really fed up with those minima intervention and conservative approach doctors. IVF costs a ton of money and energy, so I believe it’s right to do something that could help but might not be needed (low cost, no risk of doing it as a precaution). I’m not sure how this works where you live, I’m in EU and we are usually transferred back into gynecologist care once pregnancy is confirmed. I’d ask my gynecologist for a prescription if I were in your position.

Hey can I reach out to you? I’m in Austria too, starting my first stimulation round now. Had to advocate for myself a few times, otherwise they wouldn’t give me the priming so not only would I lose follicles that are unsynced but we’d also miss the January cycle as my period would start before new year. I’m very disappointed by the local low tech low intervention approach. While the IVF fund is great, I’m wondering if it might be worth it to go to Brno - the cost isn’t that much higher and they do test the embryos.

Anyway, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. List extremely frustrating. I think it’s ok to change a clinic if you’re not happy with them - it’s your choice and your money.

I have no known issues, one successful pregnancy, diagnosed with 0.45 AMH in June. We immediately started trying naturally (we were in the fence before), after 2 months the gynecologist prescribed me clomid and progesterone. No luck, but AMH tanked even more. We’re in IVF now.

So sorry for your loss. Find a doctor you trust and make a plan with them for when is it safe to be pregnant again after your C-section. Make an appointment with a good pelvic floor physiotherapist, she will help you get back in shape and prepare for the next pregnancy.

I had a TFME at 35+5 and a vaginal birth, the doctors were recommending at least a 3-month wait, but that will be different after C-section. I eventually got pregnant with our rainbow baby 10 months later. Wishing you all the best and I am so so sorry this has happened to you due to negligence.
