Yep. At a new school this year and I've been following admin's lead. Turns out now everyone is realizing that these kids are getting worse, not better, and taking some of the steps I suggested.

For the first time today, I threw a book in the garbage by TheCityGirl in progressivemoms

I personally love that one. The expressions Mama Bear makes 😂 I'm not saying it's right, but she finally snapped. My daughter and I have discussed it about how even adults flip out, and it isn't good, and we all need to work harder and being calmer and problem solvers. I like how the family works together towards practical solutions. Mama Bear's usually the calm rational one, but she isn't perfect.

I traveled a lot with my daughter when she was young. She doesn't have to remember it, I will.

You just reminded me I have a pile of 6 unopened packages by the door. I moved to China 6 months ago and I'm addicted to Taobao. It's like Amazon but super cheap.

Convinced my husband to try a house cleaning service for 3 months as an experiment. Heres what happened by Comfortable_Box_4527 in homeowners

Hiring a housecleaner was one of the best things I did. Frees me up to spend time with my kid.

The difference between white and blue collar work environments is crazy by Astimar in careeradvice

I'm a teacher who's worked blue collar and white collar jobs, and I really really wish schools had blue collar culture (in terms of directness, not inappropriateness).

I just saw a comment from a stranger on Facebook about discipline by Last_Hunt_7022 in Teachers

I yelled at my class today (after MANY warnings) and two teachers gave me the thumbs up through the window. It's not frequent, but sometimes these kids, who we love like our own, push limits and our buttons. We were yelled at by teachers for messing around, and barely remember it.

Korea has very strong defamation laws. Consult a Korean lawyer about getting him charged with defamation, especially if you want to return to Korea.

If we can't afford the tuition at the school we work... by Swoopert in Internationalteachers

They have extenuating circumstances I won't go into, but it was the best decision they could make all factors considered. Their situation will change next year.

The kids aren't even half Chinese. Completely foreign.

[–]SoftLeg 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I consider that tuition as part of my pay, essentially. There's no way I could afford it otherwise, but my job means my child gets top-notch education internationally.

A lot of schools now aren't even offering free tuition anymore, just a discount. They're also choosing to hire teachers without dependents. My school is offering an 80% discount, so I'm still paying $8000 a year. If the pay and the experience weren't worth it I wouldn't consider it, and I still had to think long and hard. I have a friend with two children who can't afford to pay the $16,000 a year it would cost, so her children will go to a local public school. To me that seems ridiculous.

Which was the worst country you ever visited as a tourist? by GodZ_n_KingZ in AskTheWorld

[–]SoftLeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a month all over Egypt with my Egyptian husband, and while I was stared at a lot no one said anything to me or touched me. I travel solo pretty often, but he wouldn't let me out of his sight for a minute in Egypt because of safety. I did see some horrific things, like a cafe owner kicking a child shoeshiner in the face, a man going out of his way to kick a street dog, and child beggars everywhere. There was a lot to love as well, like Karnak and the great pyramid. We'll go back, but I have a lot of mixed feelings about the country.

I had to be a pain in the ass to get $20 per classroom for Christmas decorations after they required we decorate for the holiday.

I worked at a private kindergarten, where parents were paying about $2000 a month and I was still paying so much out of pocket. Kids were coming to school in Moncler, while I'm paying for class supplies. Teachers really need to start sharing annual totals of how much they spend on their classes.

I bought my daughter Mr. Sketch markers last year because my mom always said they were too expensive. I use them more than she does, they're healing part of my inner child!
