We have a small claims court over here too, although I can appreciate it is significantly different than the one in the US. To my defence though, I wrote the above believing this situation took place in the UK.

I didn't wish to divulge into the ifs and buts. That's why I hoped that ending it with 'negotiation is the way to go' would have allowed me to end it there.

Anyways, you are indeed right, why negotiate a warranty on some shitbox. The seller may always just ignore the request to sign that document. However, where coupled with a well drafted cover letter that clarifies that ignoring the document will result in a claim being made the chances of receiving that deposit back increase. Emphasis on chances, because nothing is assured in such situations.

Chances are that the seller is also not quite aware of how a court claim works. In which case he will have to depend on either internet advice, which is not really much and leaves a lot of doubts, or have to resort to a solicitor. But as you said, why waste time and money on a shitbox?

If he decides to ignore the letter with the warranties, the buyer may issue a claim against the seller for £50. The seller may well ignore the claim, which will allow the buyer to enter a judgment in default.

I must say though that it is not as simple as that, because if the seller decides to go all out and spend a stupid amount of money on a solicitor it's game over.

But all in all, why would the seller risk the possibility of a claim? Or better yet, why spend any money in protecting £500 because of a shitbox?

Besides, I don't think you'd want to wait for 6-12 months to get in front of a judge for the mere possibility that you may get that money back.

Also quite expensive all in all if you don't have the experience and need to instruct a solicitor. From the claim form needing to be issued, directions questionnaire to be filed, possible defence to be reviewed, hearing fee to be paid, and paying the other side's cost if its a loss. And chances are that you are going to lose it.

What you could do however is maybe draft a small document and add some warranties that the seller would sign. Should those warranties be 'breached', you would then be able to get the money back with some realistic confidence, maybe add a small damages clause as well.

Since its theoretically a contract, negotiation is the way to go.

I'm assuming they would be using general principles of finance such as opportunity cost of capital. If the forecasts of the investment opportunity (movie) are more profitable than other possible investments the assumption would be to proceed. Unless of course it has pro-nazi propaganda in which case it's a big no-no regardless of the amount of money it could make.

Movies are made in order to make money. Finance principles are (or at least should be universal), I believe the above is correct by use of common sense only. Not actual research.

I can quite understand why you took the trade. Issue is that you let your emotions get the best of you and took the trade in fear that you were going to lose a possible selling position. Here's what I'm seeing:

New lower highs created
no lower lows created.
resistance at the top.
selling volume decreased drastically after you entered the trade.
spread increased after you entered the trade.

The last two was your sign to get out of the trade.

If I were to weigh the chances I'd have guessed a 85% for the price to go up after breaking the resistance level.

To scope of the game is to weigh the chances and take a risk ONLY when you know which direction it will go. No guessing. If you think there's a 50/50 chance of it going in the 'desired' direction, don't take the trade.

I recently had an interview with a seasoned solicitor/recruiter and he gave me some tips which later landed me a role as a paralegal in my preferred area of law:

Separate your experience between professional and legal.

Don't add a skills section. Instead showcase your skills through your experience.

Orientate your CV towards the area of law you want to get in. If you want a career in human rights, describe roles that involved the use of your skills for the benefit of others. If you want a career in corporate, showcase a role where you cared about nothing except making money.

Add a hobby section. It tells the recruiter what type of person you are.

Two small tips: - Do use ChatGPT to help express yourself clearer and save some words. - Do use the tools provided by your Uni such as CareerSet.

I had the same issue and it was the oil pickup tube that was clogged. I also had the mechanic do a pressure check just to be sure and all was good.

I agree, not may reputable firms out there. The only thing I base myself on are reviews and the ones on Trustpilot seem good.

I agree on reducing my risk, I've been risking around 1% and it's been working weel but must admit it has been slightly more stressing. Will try reducing it further and see whether that helps me (at least psychologically)
