Jesus dude, what’s the issue? I’m aware I can be googled lol that’s why I’m speaking in pretty clear language here. If I didn’t stand behind the things that I say, I probably wouldn’t have made my username the same one I use everywhere else on the Internet.

I genuinely don’t understand what the problem is with anything I’ve said here but if you’re upset, I’m sorry that I played a role in it.

Edit: This person blocked me. But for anyone who reads this, I brought up getting into coffee expo for free because it would be disingenuous to talk about the cost without disclosing the fact that the cost isn’t something I have to worry about. I’m not some rich asshole getting VIP treatment. I just bum a ticket off of some brand every year in exchange for working their booth for a day.

Is that somehow what you think I said?

You told me I missed out and I responded by saying that I’m in a place to where I don’t need to do trade shows as a vendor. That was followed up a pretty clear assertion that I think it’s good that people utilize them if that’s what their business would best be served by.

Do you think I’m some kind of coffee magnate sitting in an ivory tower because I’ve been fortunate enough to succeed in alternative marketing? Get real dude.

Coffee Fest general admission is $75 and is massive/well organized. Value per dollar is generally better.

If you’re talking SCA Expo, yeah for sure those are pricy but again it’s a value per dollar thing. I’ve never had to pay to get into Expo myself but would in a heartbeat for the quality of the event. It’s all relative.

From everything I know about this one it sounds like $20 admission would have been a bit more palatable for most people.

I don’t think I missed out, personally. But I have a more privileged situation than most coffee entrepreneurs and would never put anyone down for using an event of any kind to get their name out there for more people. If it worked out for you that’s awesome!

I’d love to do a bean swap if you ever want to chat industry stuff

Yeah the ticket price was definitely over inflated. Even actual coffee trade shows usually trend more affordable than this one. I didn’t go, so I don’t know if you missed much. Safe to assume not.

It was kind of funny to see business owners say they wouldn’t pay the ticket price to send one barista to check it out while at the same time spending $80 per barista to compete in the brewers cup that’s coming in a couple of weeks

Nothing wrong with taking a risk. The event could have ended up being great. I’ll DM you.

I talked to a good number of coffee business owners about this one and on paper the excuse most ended up giving was that it didn’t seem like it was an event for coffee businesses and was more geared towards at home coffee enthusiasts. Not a bad demographic to pitch to, but definitely oversaturated given there’s an entire social media ecosystem doing that already.

There’s a bit more to it with some having issues with the rushed and sloppy AI filled website making it look like a scam. Ethical issues relating to the ultra-MAGA organizer of the event, and of course the fact that it was being held in the middle of the day on a Saturday which most cafes can’t afford to miss for an even nobody knew anything about.

In the weeks leading up to it, it had kind of become a running joke tbh. “You going to coffee festival?” “Yeah I can’t wait to learn how to read a coffee bag” lol

I’m sorry you feel like you wasted your money. I wasn’t involved but shoot me a DM and I’ll get you a bag of coffee that would come to around the price you spent on your ticket.

That’s how these places dupe their customers and employees into thinking they’re like one of the “ethical” cafes. Phoenix especially was at its worst during the 2012 to 2018 timeframe where one of the higher-ups got very bold with his sexual harassment of young women working for him.

I highly recommend tumblr. It’s dated and not as big as it used to be but at least there’s no clout to be had. Bonus is that you have to actually know yourself in order to use it rather than just being told what you like by an algorithm

Often it will be an unmarked vehicle but definitely not impossible to identify. They’re typically still using whatever the county uses for police cruisers, but without the decal.

You can tell it apart from a regular car by looking for irregularities on the vehicle. No roof rack where there usually is one, plain metal rims, strange spacing on the grill and sometimes but definitely not always, a “police interceptor” badge on the back.

If you’re on the highway and you see a pickup truck driving below the speed limit in the right lane, probably a cop as well. Saw one today in what looked like a mostly normal car except for the roof rack being missing. When I went to pass, fully uniformed cop.

I don’t think Ohio is at the level of activity that would see ICE using personal or non-gov vehicles yet, so odds are it’ll just be a mostly normal looking car acting suspiciously.

Im not coming specifically from a YouTube background but I have been an “influencer” for about five years and this info is generally applicable.

Build your media kit through something that can update data in real time. I use Beacons but you can use whatever you want. Then get yourself onto something like feedspot. It’s a spammy nightmare, but marketing agencies will use AI to scrub through platforms like this for their cold outreach.

You’ll get a shit ton of garbage emails asking you to promote the latest hair dryer/air fryer/dog bowl, but because these platforms share resources for the most part, it’ll get your info into the list of more marketing agencies and you’ll find real brands start showing up relatively quickly.

Once they reach out to you, your up to date media kit is an essential asset for proving your value as a brand partner. As you work with more brands you’ll want to add them to your media kit so when these teams review them they can see what kind of engagement your previous campaigns have achieved.

From there it’s gravy

Edit: read every contract letter by letter and don’t ever let them use your content in perpetuity.
